I don't usually have anything artsy-fartsy to share, but I've been working on a Stellaris mod for the past few years... despite the fact I've never played Stellaris... I make textures for planets and that's it. For whatever reason, I decided to completely over-engineer the last texture that I did. I made it in 8k, so the file ended up being 245 MB... Absolutely ridiculous for one texture (and I presume a lower resolution version will go into the game), but it looks glorious.

Is that 245 MB as a PNG or a PSD?

The PNG is a mere 21.5 MB. I'd imagine the PSD was quite a bit bigger than 245 MB at some point, but I merged a lot of the layers at the end to make things a little more manageable.

And I'm glad you liked it. A crazy amount of work goes into making one of these, so I'm always pleased when somebody doesn't loathe the end result!

I was aiming for "majestic," but I'm still glad it got the "EPIC" seal of approval. 😜

Haha, I feel that...I was working on a PSD recently and it ended up being over 2 GB. I had to save it in the large-file format, and the JPEG output alone was 33 MB, AFTER the max width got constrained by the exporter XD

And even then, a friend complained that I saved it as a JPEG and not a PNG...

While building some of my video game maps I also ended up with some insanely large images. Here's a 92340x22572 grayscale image. It's the "Bild in Originalgröße"-link... When I uploaded it 5 years ago it just crashed the Firefox tab... at a later point Firefox just noped out and claimed the image file was broken and now Firefox displays some blurry mess.

Wow. Yours has mine beat it. Can't remember what mine was - whatever the maximum PS will output, I guess. It was also a video game map. Lots of them, stitched together. I wanna say it was maybe 18Kx18K, downscaled to 10Kx10K in output. Still plenty big enough, but...a bit of a hassle to share without FTPing into my own server :P

I don't love how this turned out, but I also didn't put more than 45-60 minutes into it from screenshot to export. No, I'm not a great designer, an artist, or even creative. I can already see things that would be better. But I just felt like doing something...superficially angsty today, after playing ESO this morning. Whether it's good or not, I needed some outlet.

The moral choices at the end of quests are always, well, superficial. And they aren't often difficult, and they almost never have actual consequences. But still sometimes, when I'm enjoying the game, the writing comes to life and I feel the shallow conflicts of the NPC motives more deeply. And I get inside my character's head and feel the difficulty of making these decisions, especially ones like this morning where I wasn't completely sure what I wanted to do. It wasn't just the sequence of the events, like in some quests, but also the effect of my own actions, however small. It felt like, in that moment, whatever choice I made was a reflection of my own personal values. Neither of them was ideal, and I guess that left me...despondent. Not seriously so, and I don't understand why, but it did.

So, I made this, as an expression of how I felt when I don't know how I'm feeling (which is often, TBH). I know, it's silly. Probably gonna delete it in the morning before I embarrass myself like the emo teen I am inside XD
