Okay, well... I thought there was an introduction thread hiding somewhere in the sea of discussion threads, but I couldn't seem to find it. Maybe it has a weird name or something. So, here's another one, since we're seeing more and more new faces around here. Everyone introduce yourselves, because we're friendly and should get to know one another!

Me, I'm gaiages, a 24 year old college student from Florida. I play videogames, obviously, and I also enjoying writing. I play retro and modern games alike, and have built up a bit of a collection (and backlog!) over the years. I've played games since I was five, though I truly didn't really get into it until Pokemon came across the sea and stole my childhood. I'd ramble on, but I think you got the picture! ;P

I'm AJ, an 18 year old college student from Iowa. I play videogames, obviously, and I also do not enjoy writing. I play retro and modern games alike (currently D3, spyro trilogy, mario power tennis, and time splitters future perfect) and have built up a bit of a collection over the years. I've played games since I was prolly about five, though I truly didn't really get into it until Pokemon came across the sea and stole my childhood. Pokemon, i would say, is the first game that i put 100+ hours into. I'd ramble on, but I think you got the picture! ;P

and sorry for basically copying your post word for word =P

Well, this is an interesting thread!
I'm a 16-year old that lives in Brazil AND has a computer (despite all Americans thinking that Brazil is just a gigantic forest with coconuts as a currency)! I've also been gaming since I turned 5yrs-old, when I got my beloved Dreamcast. My older brother introduced me to GBC and SNES and I've been a retro-gaming lover since then. I've played a gigantic amount of console+PC+flash games so far even while being one of the best students ever and reading a lot. Which makes me sleep less than 6 hours per day.
I love anything Pok

Hey guys,

I'm pheria, a 23 year old originally from Virginia->5 months in Germany studying abroad->now in Florida, working as a software engineer (aspiring to be a hardware engineer).

My over-sized backlog initially started growing in college, when there wasn't time to play much. Now that I'm out I have a bit more time and can play more. :D I really enjoy lists and data related to video games I own as well, so this site is quite handy.

I love retro games mostly for their history, but I'll admit it's pretty challenging to go back and play them now. Modern games with their frequent checkpoints have made me soft. :P

Music games are generally my favorite. DDR/Stepmania/PIU, DJMax, Beatmania, Elite Beat Agents/Osu!, Audiosurf, Amplitude. All really fun to me. :3
I also enjoy JRPG's and racing titles.

Nice to meet you all!

Hey everyone,

I'm a 30 year old corrections deputy in FL.I've been playing games since I was 4 years old (my first game was Super Mario Bros at a Walmart display). I've played everything from jrpgs to Call of Duty. Due to my full time job and other responsibilities I don't get to play as much as I used to. At the moment I'm trying to go thru my backlog in chronological order by release. Like it was mentioned before it is proving difficult due to more recent games being much easier on us than the games I grew up with. I've only been a member of the site for a couple weeks but I'm really impressed with the admin and other members.

Welcome to this little community! :3 I hope you enjoy it here. Also, good luck with the backlog... I couldn't go through my backlog by release date, to be honest... the games are just so hard! D: I commend you for doing that!

Thanks. Also so I don't get too bogged down I have one game from each system that I'm allowing myself to play. That way if I get stuck I can move on to something else so I don't waste any time. As of right now I only play 2 hours every other day due to schedule. According my backlog it will take me over 117 days to complete it. That's 117 days of GAME time too, so technically I'm looking at something closer to 3 years.

Hey folks! I've been on HLTB since I think people on Backloggery caught wind of it. I've always been hungry for a site like this so it's awesome to see that such a thing exists. ANYWAY... a little bit about me...

I'm a lover of video games both old and new although my favorite system is definitely the decidedly "modern" PS2. Back when I was 2 I was given an Atari 7800 and Apple IIe which sparked my interest (even though it was the early 90s at the time!). From then I became a PC gamer primarily although received and enjoyed consoles too. Then when I got my PS2 as a high school present I fell in love with console games all over again. Now I'm a fan of both and switch back and forth whenever. Started collecting around the start of college and now have far too many games than I'll ever be able to beat.

Beating games has never been a priority of mine but these days I'm hoping to play through many more. My favorite genres are survival horror, rhythm/music, and point n' click, but I'll play most anything. It's nice to meet you all! I'm mostly a lurker so you probably won't see me comment much aside from this post but feel free to send me messages or even add me to Steam or something. I'm always excited to talk to other collectors, fans of the aforementioned genres, or whatever :).

Greetings,
I've used this site as a resource to determine the playing time value of games before I purchase them, so I figured I'd start recording my own stats with new titles from the Steam Summer Sale 2012, starting with The Witcher 2. Not much more to say other than I appreciate the work this community has done to help me with purchasing decisions.

Greetings great gamers of the world. My actual name is Nikolai and I just found out about this website not too long ago. Gaming is what i do on my free time and I always get good deals on games. I am also the type of person to wait out the price until it drops to a reasonable price. I am currently at the college level living in Huntington Beach California. People say gaming is my passion, others say it is my addiction. I say who gives a crap and lets just play the game. The fact you can't really sell the games without getting ripped off that I hardly ever sell mine. Because of that my collection total is 102 games. I will be backlogging most so if your curios about my selection just give me time. Though I will say my top 3 are: The Sly Collection, Infamous 2, and Darksiders. If you say that The Sly Collection doesn't count as one game then I pick Sly 2, Infamous 2, and Darksiders.

I am 21 play games everyday from old gen to new gen consoles and now that I have a PC I am now all over Steam. I only have time to play video games past 12 am due to work now which is lame or weekends. My all time video game series would have to be either the Pokemon games or Mario games. P.S. Didn't notice this thread, but...I Have been here for alittle bit now.

My name is Ryan, I am 28 from western NY (no where near NYC...most hear NY and think im a 5 minute drive from NYC). I have been gaming since i was about 3, the first real experience I remember is playing duckhunt with my grandfather. My mom loves games my dad can't stand them, she is always asking me for new games to play she would like since she has played through most of her games so many times (like skyrim, oblivion, fable 1-3 etc) I have gone through gaming cycles so to say. I will get super hardcore then more casual. I also tend to latch into a MMO and can get pretty hardcore, thus most of my other games (and backlog!) suffering.

I played Everquest pretty hardcore, followed by EQ2, then I drifted between games. I used to work at gamestop, which is a curse because your always talking about new games that I would buy so many. When i stopped working there I probably had 30 games till in the shrink wrap (some of them still are!) Currently I work in IT for one of the hospitals up here, and get my gaming time has been cut back lately due to being stuck working 60 -70 hour work weeks, most of my gaming comes when our slow downs happen and I am just sitting here watching server status. I am taking advantage of the time I have until ESO comes out to clear out some of my games, though I seem to be buying more than I am beating.

I don't limit myself to one or two genres for games, I like to dabble in a bit of everything. My favorite type of games normally have a very engaging story, as I enjoy that part the most.

As far as coconuts being currency I thought they only thing they were good for was pretending I was riding a horse.

Hi, my name is Mislav, I'm from Croatia, 23 years old and I'm a law student. In my free time, other than gaming, i like to read a good sci-fi novel and watch sitcoms, sometimes i also like to read about economy. When i was younger, in ps one era, i was a bit more hardcore. Now i don't have that much time so only games that i go all-out on are elder scrolls (played through each since morrowind with 5+ characters). I like rpgs' a lot but do not limit myself to them. I don't like games that are shorter than 15h unless they don't take themselfs seriously (like kart and other cartoonish games). That's pretty much it, i'm not a complicated guy :D

Greetings! I dunno if I was around when this thread was created, but I've never introduced myself, and it's been nice reading the introductions (however dated) of other members.

I'm David. 29. From Georgia. I'm finishing up a Ph.D. in Sociology at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where I've lived for the last ~4 years. I've been playing games since I was little little. My uncle gave us his old Atari 2600, then we got an NES for Christmas when I was maybe 5. And off I went...

Actually it was gaming that led me to a Ph.D. in Singapore. I made friends with a professor when I was an undergrad. We had a lot in common, including a love and interest in gaming (tabletop, cards, computer games) and we were both really curious about MMOs. I remember writing a paper for him on Everquest 2 when it came out. Anyway, I graduated and he moved on to different universities in other states, but we kept in touch. One day, after my friends had introduced me to World of Warcraft, which I really really really liked, I introduced it to him. He bought it, and we played together once a week, on Friday nights, for about 3 years. One of those nights, sometime near that 3-year mark, I was complaining about my job (I was a transcriptionist) and he told me he and his wife were applying for jobs in Singapore, and that he was writing a grant to study online games, and that if they were hired, I should come do a Ph.D. in sociology and games with him and be his research assistant. They got hired, I applied, got a full research scholarship, and THAT is the story of how WoW got me a Ph.D. Or is getting me a Ph.D. Who says video games are wastes of time?

I will submit in July and move back to Atlanta, Georgia with my girlfriend, fly back here in December to defend and graduate after that. I'm applying for some teaching jobs near Atlanta right now, so cross your fingers for me.

Other than school, which consumes most of my life, I enjoy playing guitar. I'm a huge metalhead and fork out stupid amounts of money to go see touring bands in Singapore (shows are really expensive here). I enjoy learning languages. I am pretty good in Spanish and Mandarin. I also speak some Malay, German and French. I rent out a flat near my school here and my friends have dubbed it "The UN" because I house a never-ending stream of exchange students and foreign researchers. I just had a Filipino girl move in today because one of my American buddies will be in Australia for a couple months. My other roommates are a Russian girl and a guy from Hong Kong named, wait for it, Frodo. He really likes hobbits.

I love teaching and meeting interesting people. My ultimate dream in life is to run some kind of hostel or international house and also to give or accommodate lessons (language, music, cooking, etc.). Also, I would operate a book store (or swap). And this hypothetical house would be at the beach.

Mmm. Yeah, that's some stuff about me.
