I am going by US dates. I have been playing games for my entire life, starting with SNES as a toddler. My older brother got me in to games and I will never stop playing. I could probably make a top 10 list for each year but that would be to much.
1994: Donkey Kong Country. I loved playing this with my older brother.
1995: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Probably my favorite game of all time. It was the first game that I beat.
1996: Super Mario 64. I remember how amazing it was to play a 3d game for the first time. My mind was blown.
1997: Mario Kart 64. One of my favorite racing games and I played it a lot with my friends years after it was released. So much fun!
1998: Pokemon Red. I was crazy about pokemon when I was young. I loved to draw the pokemon, traded pokemon cards and pokemons with other kids in school.
1999: Age of Empires II. I loved creating my own levels and beating the shit out of the NPC opponent.
2000: Diablo II. The first game that I played online! I played this a lot with my brother.
2001: Grand Theft Auto III I remember being so happy getting the PS2 with GTA 3. Halo and Super Smash Bros Melee would be close second.
2002: Timesplitters II A fps that didn't take itself so seriously. I liked all the goofy game modes and characters. The multiplayer was a blast!
2003: Star Wars KOTOR The first RPG that I got into (if we don't count Pokemon). I loved Star Wars, the prequels were honestly my favorite movies. I had previously played a few Star Wars games (like pod racing for n64) but this was on another level.
2004: World of Warcraft. I have spent so much time in that game, made lots of friends and got RL friends to play with me. I remember raiding Zul Gurub as the main tank at the age of 11 or 12.
2005: Star Wars: Battlefront II Another quality Star Wars game where you got the experience of being just a stormtrooper.
2006: Saints Row. Dead Rising is a close second. My younger sister loved to watch me play Dead Rising and we had a lot of fun with it. But I pick Saints Row because: I thought the multiplayer was excellent. I played Protect the Pimp, Bling the Car etc so much that I actually got really good at it. I was in one of the best guilds (or gangs) in the game and I knew many of the people who played it.
2007: Super Mario Galaxy Going back to Nintendo! I was disappointed with Super Mario Sunshine. But Super Mario Galaxy is probably the best 3d platformer I have ever played.
2008: Grand Theft Auto IV I was hyping this game so much and it lived up to it. Nothing beats the feeling of coming home and playing a game you have been waiting for over 5 years and it being better then you expected it to be.
2009: Left 4 Dead II The first Valve game that I played. Perfect 4 player coop game. I played it a lot with my high school buddies.
2010: Red Dead Redemption Rockstar is probably my favorite game developer.
2011: Dark Souls It was so satisfying beating the bosses after many tries.
2012: The Walking Dead Great story, I cried
2013: The Last of Us Great story, I cried
2014: Bayonetta 2 or Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros for Wii U Nintendo brought the good stuff 2014.
2015: Ori and the Blind Forest but I really need to play Witcher 3. My PC is not good enough to handle it.
2016: So far: Uncharted 4 Overwatch being a close second. I have played more Overwatch but overall I think Uncharted 4 is better.

This is a fun topic. Let's see...

1994: Mega Man X. Still in my top 5 all-time.
1995: Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Same as above.
1996: Super Mario 64. I know, I'm basic. Sorry, Crash Bandicoot and The Neverhood.
1997: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Two perfect games came out this year, the other being Star Fox 64. This one just barely takes it.
1998: Tomba! The first, but certainly not the last of my hipster picks.
1999: Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage. But I was tempted to say Pokemon Snap.
2000: Banjo Tooie and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. These are my two favorite games of all time so I couldn't just choose one.
2001: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Still the quintessential art game.
2002: Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Okay, technically SA2 came out in 2001 but I've only played Battle which came out in 2002.
2003: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. It kills me not to put Wind Waker or R&C Going Commando here, but DKJB really is that important to me.
2004: Katamari Damacy. With Pikmin 2 trailing not far behind.
2005: We <3 Katamari. This is starting to get really difficult. 2005 also had Killer7, Psychonauts, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney... hard to choose.
2006: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Fond memories playing with my brother. Otherwise it would be Dead Rising, Kingdom Hearts II, or Chibi Robo.
2007: Chulip. Halo 3 is second because of how much time I sunk into multiplayer. But so many other great games this year... GoW II, Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, etc.
2008: Left 4 Dead. So many sleepovers spent playing this with my high school friends.
2009: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Easiest decision since 2001.
2010: Deadly Premonition. Shoutouts to SMG2, 999, and Trauma Team though.
2011: Shadows of the Damned. Granted, I haven't replayed it since 2011, so Ghost Trick might edge it out, but I LOVED this 5 years ago.
2012: Lego Lord of the Rings. sorrynotsorry. The Walking Dead and Sleeping Dogs are also top shelf shit.
2013: Pokemon X. Single-handedly reinvigorated my love for Pokemon for the first time since Ruby and Sapphire. But I forgot what an incredible year this was for games. Fire Emblem: Awakening, Super Mario 3D World, Link Between Worlds, Gone Home, Papers Please, Metal Gear Rising... holy crap.
2014: Hyrule Warriors. Following up 2013, this year was pretty disappointing. Only Mario Kart 8 gives it a run for its money.
2015: Undertale. Kinda hard to compete. Evoland 2 also surprised me, considering how mediocre the first game was.
2016: Kirby: Planet Robobot currently leads here. The Witness also springs to mind. Of the games I haven't played, Sun/Moon, FE Fates, DOOM, and Hyper Light Drifter seem the most likely to take the lead.

1994: Donkey Kong Country
1995: Rayman
1996: Super Mario 64 (Diablo)
1997: PaRappa the Rapper
1998: Pokemon Blue
1999: Rollercoaster Tycoon (Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko and Tony Hawk's Proskater)

Man, This is a tough one, especially since at the time of writing, I'm not sure if I've played any games from certain years! But I like a challenge.
1999:Wip3out. I don't think I played any games the year I was born, but I certainly enjoy this one now!
2000:Front Mission 3. Another one I came to long after it's release. I'm a big TRPG fan, and FM3 just clicks for me in that way.
2001:Max Payne. This is probably the best for this year. A totally competent shooter, and tough as nails.
2002:Metroid Fusion. I'd probably pick something else for this year if I could. Not that there's a thing wrong with Fusion: It's fine, just that there are probably better games from this year that I haven't played yet.
2003:KOTOR. I've sunk tons of hours into KOTOR. It's probably my favorite western RPG.
2004:Mechassault 2. Another one I've put a fair bit of time into. Used this to soothe the shooter itch I got later on.
2005:Mariokart DS. I started playing this around 2008 when it came with my DS. I was always playing this when we were on the go. The were tons of great courses to race.
2006:Wii Sports. Our family was as caught up in the Wii phenomenon as any other at the time. I remember when we got it we would all play the Bowling and Baseball mini-games, and going over to my friends and playing the Boxing mini-game.
2007:Pokemon Pearl. When I wasn't playing Mariokart DS, I was playing this and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: EoT. It rather shames me to admit it, but these are the only proper RPGs of any sort I've ever completed. *~* Also, at a close second is Halo 3. I played this one fabled night at a friend's house, and I've been hooked on shooters ever since.
2008:Super Smash Brothers Brawl. This wasn't an easy pick. There were tons of great games this year. It's certainly not the best fighting game, but it got me into them as a casual. Of course I now primarily play it modded with Project M.
2009:Uncharted 2: Among thieves. A competent shooter with some fun setpieces. Not much more to say about that.
2010:Plain Sight. I remember having tons of fun with this. It's just a dumb game about jumping around with some robots in space, but it turns out that's really enjoyable all by itself.
2011:Bastion. Possibly my favorite indie game. Wonderful story and art with gameplay to match,
2012:Mark of the Ninja. Another tough year, but something had to come out on top eventually. MotN was my introduction to stealth games, and my, what an introduction it was. I've a hankering to go and replay it just thinking about it. The presentation, the mechanics, how it felt in the hands- it was all super tight and slick.
2013:Path of Exile. A fun enough dungeon crawler but with that lovely Diablo 2 aesthetic. Another year I haven't played enough of.
2014:Fistful of Frags. Another game to scratch the shooter itch.
2015:Grow Home. A lovely little platformer for rainy days.
2016:Jack all. I haven't played any games from this year, I'm afraid.

Alright, let's see (when your favorite game from childhood came out 2 years before you were born)

1997: Final Fantasy VII - Let's be real this is most people favorite final fantasy game, it's not mine but it's up there.
1998: TLoZ: Ocarina of Time - My favorite Zelda game by far and I absolutly loved it as a kid and I still play it o this day, in fact I currently have another 100% run going for it now, haha.
1999: Super Smash Bros. - I played this way too much during my primary school days even though by then it had been out for years and Meele was around (I have never played Meele) and so I still absolutly love this game.
2000: TLoZ: Majora's Mask - my second favorite zelda game and defiantly one that has the most emotional impact for me, this game just has so much going on, an absolutly stellar game.
2001: Advanced Wars - what of fucking up! I love this game, it's absolutly perfect and amazing, why did they stop after just four, we want more, make one on the switch or 3DS please!
2002: Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 - I played this game way too much as a kid, like seriously way too much. I have footage of it playing on my laptop just running in the background, if I was on my laptop then this game was most likely open.
2003: SSX 3 - shit year for me it seems, nothing here I've really touched except this, maybe I missed something but this will have to do I suppose.
2004: Pikmin 2 - yet another game I'm currently played, although I guess I'm playing the Wii version, whatever I'll have it in this year, absolutly love this game, it's so god damn good even if it is extremely hard and makes me cry every time I play, haha.
2005: Mario Kart DS - easy, since you got this game free with a DS basically everyone had it, and with the new wi-Fi option and no need for a link cable, everyone was able to play together. Me and my two brothers, me at my friend's house or at a friends party or when I had to go to day care areas since my mum worked during the holidays sometimes, all of them include fond memories of me playing mario kart DS with a bunch of friends, I must of poured so many hours into this game.
2006: Final Fantasy XII - another kinda shit year, this is really the only game I have played from and even then not much, I never got far or finished it bugs it's sequal is where it's at.
2007: Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings - this is my fucking Jam, my absolute favorite final fantasy and one of my favorite games of all time, it's extremely fun and I love it to bits, I actually played it without having played normal XII but I still adore it, also for some reason I associate it with Christmas and for the past 4 years or so I've played it on Christmas Eve, don't even know how this happened but it's almost that time again.
2008: World of Goo - god I know this is a weird choice. Some good stuff like Mario kart Wii and smash bros brawl came out but brawl isn't actually that great and I have still never played Mario kart Wii, so world of goo it is, a really fun game and very addictive I use to always get up real early so I could play this a bunch before I had to go to school.
2009: Sims 3 - no question, I played this game so much and even though sims 4 is out I still play 3 more and prefer it cause 4 is just a mass of mediocre crap compared to 3, sims 3 is amazing and I still play it to this day.
2010: Xenobalde Chronicles - my favorite game of all time, I don't wanna get started on this cause there is so much to say and this is a long post on its own, but yer just saying that it's my favorite game of all time should be enoguh to let you know how I feel about it and why it is defiantly the best game of its respective year for me.
2011: Fortune Steet / Boom Street (PAL Title) - this game is great, I've always been a big fan of monopoly, I play that game any chance I get and his is like monopoly but with stocks and that makes it a hell of a lot more interesting and fun, the games are long and the learning curve can be tough but it's a pleasure to play once you know what your doing.
2012: Animal Crossing: New Leaf - this was a tough one, awakening, kid Icarus uprising, Bravley default and Pokemon conquest also all came out this year, making it one of my favorite years for gaming defiantly, but I can only pick one, I really don't wanna leave something like awaking out but in the end I gotta go with what has the most playtime, but awaking is a close second for sure! God this is rough.
2013: Pikmin 3 - one of the best pikmin games in terms on controls, sadly it's pretty easy though and has no Challange, not my faovrite pikmin game but defiantly the easiest and funnist to play which does go a long way and easily the best game of that year, I remember I got it for my birthday and since I wasn't done with 2 yet I though ' I won't play it' but after a whole I was like 'you don't need to have played the old games for pikmin, I'll play for a short while' and then I ended up playing it for 12 hours with no break, haha!
2014: Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water / Fatal Frame V - This is actually a really fun game, now this has a big of bias, obviously Hyrule Warriors and smash bros 4 came out this year and they were also amaizng games that deserve way more praise then this game and they also are just better in reality but my bias is here becuase I played this game and with friends. Across multiple meetings my friends and I met up and played though some more of this game and it was so fun, there are three characters so we each played based on who we were controlling and it was just a really fun time and I'm glad it happened, one of my fond memories, also I'm pretty sure this is the Japanese release year and it came to use later but sue me!
2015: Splatoon - a reall good year, end layer, Xenobalde X, Mario maker, rainbow brush, happy home designer and sharp FE. A lot of good games from this year but gotta go with Splatoon cause it was just such a joy to play, I really enjoyed this game and I still do actually it's a lot of fun and has a great community that's still active online and there's either going to be a port or a sexual on the switch which I'm hyped for.
2016: Project X Zone 2 - this might chance, depends how my feelings for fire emblem change and also if Pokemon sun can grab me well, I'm still shiny SRing for a starter so I can't judge it yet. But at the moment defiantly this, it had poor advertisement and limited realise so it's super cheap if you can find it and I defiantly reccomend it, it's a really good game with some of the best dialog from anything ever.

Been playing since I was 2 years old. Kinda hard to condense 19 years of gaming.

1995: Actually, I don't see a game that I've actually played on the list on Wikipedia
1996: Super Mario 64 (N64) This the game that started it all. At age 2, I'd sit on my mom's lap with my hands on the controller and she'd play over my fingers. Eventually, I started getting stars on my own.
1997: Diddy Kong Raacing (N64) To this day I still think this is the best racing game with a campaign. An awesome hub world, collectibles in races, secrets, BOSS RACES. There has yet to be anything like it.
1998: Banjo Kazooie (N64) One the best 3D platformers and the best of Rare. I didn't beat it until 2008 though. I accidentally deleted my mother's 100% save file and she had to do it all over again. Crash Warped 3
1999: Pokemon Snap (N64) Cute fun game that was littered with secrets. My mom and I became obsessed when we were looking for the Hidden Signs.
2000: Pokemon Stadium (N64) At the time, I had yet to play the main series so this was as close as I could get.
2001: Luigi's Mansion (GC) Every Nintendo console needs a definitive Mario game and this was it for me. Figuring out the puzzle to trigger each ghost was tense and fun. When the power went out, I was scared though.
2002: Mega Man Battle Network 2 (GBA) This was my first introduction to Mega Man. I couldn't beet it till 3 years later but it really left an impression on me. We need a game that has similar battle mechanics like this one
2003: Kirby Air Ride (GC) When I first played this, I thought the racing was alright. However, once I got into the city mode and found the secret ride machines, I really started to enjoy this title.
2004: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2) I didn't start playing this game properly until I was half-way point. Having campy super villains but still able to have themes of patriotism and honor. AMAZING!
2005: Resident Evil 4 (Wii) My first foray in the horror genre. It too was campy in it's with the "Napoleon midget" bad guy but still managed to terrify me in certain parts. The "Regenerators": I went into fight or flight mode while screaming.
2006: Persona 3: Portable This game had me with anticipation when I realized the end of the game was another 10 hours. The end had me crying at 1am, the tears wouldn't stop. This game changed me philosophically; I don't what it is about the the method and themes the Japanese decides to use but nothing from the west has ever affected me like this.
2007: Pokemon Diamond I woke up at 11pm, Mom just came home, and handed me the package. As she fell asleep from her long day, I stayed up playing and watching the Ed, Edd, and Eddy marathon on Cartoon Network. This is also the first time I went a day without sleeping. I played on the bus to school, battled friends in math class, caught Giratina in the super market, chased Mespirit in Spanish class. I put over 340 hours into this and was really close to catching them all.
2008: Order of Ecclesia (DS) My first Castlevania game. When I started I thought it was a good 2D platformer but was lacking in content. When I got to Dracula's Castle, I realized what it meant to play Castlevania.
2009: KH 358/2 Days (DS) Everyday before I went to bed I'd play 3-5 missions. It seemed to match the regiment of the characters working for Organ. XIII. But the results of the end
2010: CoD: Black Ops (360)This was my first CoD and I was disappointed, in all respects. But after the Ascension DLC came, I really learned how to have fun with CoD. It came to the point where even when my friends weren't online, I'd still want to play. Before I only had interest in Zombies, then I was putting as many hours into online as Zombies. I thought the campaign was bad, then I started quoting "I AM VICTOR REZNOV!!" Zombies is best though.
2011: The Binding the Issac (PC) This is what introduced me to Steam and got me gaming on the PC. My first Rogue-like (light)
2012: Journey (PS4) This game can be an allegory for all games, it's an allegory for life. The end game was me and random sticking together out of necessity. When the credits rolled, I was tearing.
2014: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (Vita) Here's my review: https://pixelpine.com/danganronpa-trigger-happy-havoc-review/
2015: Bloodborne (PS4) This game is the best from From Software and is in my top 5 games of all time. After a week of school, work, and no sleep, I'd get home around 11:30pm and play this until 2am. The stress from playing this game seemed to remove the stress of the week. (This game is fantastic for other reasons though).
2016: Overwatch (PS4) This game to me was like what Splatoon was to me last year. Summer time, new type of shooter, colorful, fun, and 30 hours the first week.

Honorable mentions:
2002: Kingdom Hearts (PS2)
2006: Okami (PS2)
2007: The World Ends With You (DS), Bioshock (360), & Metrotd Prime 3 (Wii)
2010: Civ. 5 (PC)
2011: Dark Souls (360)
2012: Thomas Was Alone (PC)
2015 Splatoon (Wii U)

This took long time to make. I decided to add some of my thoughts for each entry. Honorable mentions are other games that I considered picking up as my favorite for that year.

1990: The Secret of Monkey Island: The franchise that started my love for point 'n' click games.
1991: Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge: Same as the previous entry.
1992: Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss: With Baldur's Gate the first CRPG I ever played but compared to BG this one is far more immersive. I still have a big box of this game sitting on my shelf. HONORABLE MENTION: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
1993: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers: If Grim Fandango was the finest moment for LucasArts, this one is the same for Sierra. Great voice acting by famous actors like Tim Curry and Mark Hamill.
1994: Beneath a Steel Sky: Played this one for the first Video Game Book Club entry. Great value considering it's freeware nowadays.
1995: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream: Based on the short story by Harlan Ellison this game expands on the original story. HONORABLE MENTION: The Dig
1996: Crash Bandicoot: One of the first games I played on PS1 and one of my most beloved platformer franchises with Spyro.
1997: Fallout: Post-apocalyptic CRPG that doesn't take itself too seriously. HONORABLE MENTION: Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
1998: Grim Fandango: The highpoint of adventure game genre for me. Great voice acting even by todays standards. HONORABLE MENTIONS: Baldur's Gate, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Fallout 2, Metal Gear Solid and Spyro the Dragon
1999: Planescape: Torment: What can change the nature of man? I don't know, but something I do know is that this game has the greatest story ever told in a video game format. If you like narrative focused video games you owe yourself to play this one at least once. HONORABLE MENTIONS: Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer and System Shock 2
2000: Deus Ex: a cyberpunk RPG/FPS/Stealth-hybrid with one of the most realistic intepretations of near future. Later games in this franchise haven't achieved this games levels of immersion. Also excellent soundtrack! HONORABLE MENTIONS: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Thief II: The Metal Age
2001: Silent Hill 2: Somehow Team Silent JPN managed to create one of the thickest video game protagonists ever and put him in a game as excellent as this. Great story, great music and David Lynchian voice acting (a.k.a. so bad that it ends up adding to the atmosphere). HONORABLE MENTION: Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, Ico and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2002: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City: The game that nails the 80s atmosphere perfectly. Just shows that you can have violent game and use more colours than brown and grey. Soundtrack worth dying for. HONORABLE MENTION: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
2003: Gothic II: Even though Gothic franchise is kinda your basic medieval fantasy setting with the cliched "ancient evil" storyline it still manages to create this really unique atmosphere only replicated by the first The Witcher game. HONORABLE MENTION: Silent Hill 3
2004: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater: This might be a bit controversial opinion but to me MGS3 is the first Metal Gear game with decent gameplay. If you're playing on PS2 I would recommend getting Subsistence version instead for the player controlled camera movement alone.
2005: Shadow of the Colossus: A game consisting entirely of boss fights. Unique and innovative. Has also interesting story that leaves a lot for player intepretation.
2006: Hitman: Blood Money: Hitman at it's finest! Open levels leave a lot for the player to experiment.
2007: The Witcher: There were many games released in 2007 that were objectively far more polished than this CD Projekt RED's first entry. Despite clunky combat, bad animations and terrible voice acting the game has this unique charm the series could never replicate afterwards. Also the alchemy system is great.
2008: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4:The first JRPG I fell in love with! Even though all the characters are your cliched high school manga/anime stereotypes Atlus managed to add so much depth to them that they don't feel like stereotypes. Also the story tells a great murder mystery.
2009: Dragon Age: Origins: The final BioWare game before their downfall. I liked the "origin" system.
2010: Fallout: New Vegas: The proper sequel to Fallout 2. Great writing and plenty of possibilities to properly roleplay your character.
2011: To the Moon: More of an interactive story that traditional video game. The story is just too great to give this game a pass.
2012: The Cat Lady: Another game on this list that plays like an interactive story. Has great story and atmosphere. Recommended for the fans of old Silent Hill games. HONORABLE MENTION: Sleeping Dogs
2013: Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut: The proper sequel to the original. Doesn't achieve the greatness of the first one but is still great game on it's own.
2014: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter: Visually one of the greatest looking games I have ever seen. Rewards exploration. "Walking sim" done right!
2015: Life Is Strange: Great interactive story. The last episode is so-so but generally I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely gives TellTale a run for their money.
2016: N/A: Haven't played any games released this year yet.

I finally reached that moment when my backlog is practically zero games (feels so good) so maybe I could give another try for Planescape: Torment. I couldn't get far before cause I always find other games to play... and now I hear again how awesome it is...

Maybe I will finish it in coffin... hehe!

Silent Hill has something of David Lynch indeed. Years ago, before they released the adaptations of the games for the movies, I was imagining how amazing if Lynch would direct an adaptation of the game hahaha!

And the Silent Hill 2 OST is one of my favourites in games.

Ahhh this is actually really hard, because I've always been years behind/late when it comes to gaming. The games I've played during most of my childhood were old Sega Genesis games (Sonic, Streets of Rage) that came out before I was born, and I also haven't played older games that much.

(NA release dates, honorable mentions in italic.)

1996: Suikoden (PS1) - One of my favorite series!
1997: Final Fantasy VII (PS1) - Not the first Final Fantasy game I've played, also not my favorite, but it's the only game from that year that I've played (and actually never finished).
1998: Spyro the Dragon (PS1) - for the memories.
1999: Suikoden II (PS1) - Again, of my favorite series of all time, and this one specifically is my favorite game of the series.
2000: Final Fantasy IX (PS1) - Not a favorite from the series, but still pretty enjoyable.
2001: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS2) - This is one of the first game I've played on PS2. I've played it more than once, and loved it each time.
2002: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger (PS2) - Same as Jak and Daxter. Fun fact: I still remember the cheat codes by heart. Honorable Mentions: Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus (PS2), Suikoden III (PS2)

Now this is where it gets hard.

2003: Beyond Good & Evil (PC) - My first ''video game love''. This is the first game I truly enjoyed enough to replay and complete many times. Honorable Mentions: Jak II (PS2), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC), SSX 3 (PS2), Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken (GBA), Runaway: A Road Adventure (PC)
2004: Tales of Symphonia (GC) - Not the first game I've played from the Tales series, also not my favorite, but still pretty enjoyable. Honorable Mentions: Jak 3 (PS2), Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS2), Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2: Bush Rescue (PS2)
2005: Dynasty Warriors 5 (PS2) - This is the first Dynasty Warriors game that I've played, which made me discover the entire ''Musou'' series, which I absolutely love. Honorable Mentions: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA), Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (GBA), Animal Crossing: Wild World (NDS), Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves (PS2), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (NDS). I also have to add a special mention to Flyff (PC MMORPG).
2006: Final Fantasy XII (PS2) - In my Top 3 favorite Final Fantasy games. I really need to replay this game soon. Also, Fran and Blathier are my babies. Honorable Mentions: Magical Starsign (NDS), Tales of the Abyss (PS2), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii), The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC)
2007: Pokémon Diamond (NDS) - First Pokémon game I've played. Good memories with friends. Honorable Mentions: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (NDS), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All (NDS), Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations (NDS), Bioshock (PC), Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle (PC)
2008: Okami (Wii) - Such an emotional game. Great soundtrack, too. Honorable Mentions: Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (NDS), Fallout 3 (PC)
2009: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (NDS) - Choo-choo. Honorable Mentions: Suikoden Tierkreis (NDS), Dragon Age: Origins (PC), Borderlands (PC).
2010: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) - My favorite Final Fantasy game, also the first game I got for PS3. (P.S. Fang is mine) Honorable Mentions: Bioshock 2 (PC), Assassin's Creed II (PC), Mafia II (PC), Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver (NDS), Runaway 3: A Twist of Fate (PC), Fallout: New Vegas (PC), Darksiders (PC), Civilization V (PC)
2011: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) - Ahhhhh this one was really fun! Beautiful game. Honorable Mentions: Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (NDS), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC), The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (PC), Dragon Age II (PC), RAGE (PS3), Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (PS3)
2012: Mass Effect Trilogy (PC) - I've played the trilogy this year (in 2016). Needless to say I'm hyped for Mass Effect Andromeda. Honorable Mentions: Dishonored (PC), Tales of Graces f (PS3), Assassin's Creed III (PC), Borderlands 2 (PC), Sleeping Dogs (PC), The Walking Dead Season One (Telltale Games) (PC), Darksiders II (PC), Pokémon Conquest (NDS)
2013: This one is reallllly hard. There are a lot of games that I loved that came out in 2013. I would say it's a tie between Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (PS3) and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS3). Really close to that is The Last of Us (PS3). Honorable Mentions: Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS), Tales of Xillia (PS3), Bioshock Infinite (PC), Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 (PS3), One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 (PS3, I would also like to mention that this is the only game I've Platinum'd on PS3), Dynasty Warriors 8 (PS3), Pokemon XY (3DS)
2014: Far Cry 4 (PS3) - Despite what other people might say, I really enjoyed it. The ''fictional Nepal/Himalayas'' was a nice sight. Honorable Mentions: Tales of Xillia 2 (PS3), Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (PC), Dragon Age: Inquisition (PC), The Walking Dead: Season Two (Telltale Games, 2013-2014) (PC)
2015: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC) - No need to explain that one. Honorable Mentions: Life is Strange (PC), Tales of Zestiria (PS3), Assassin's Creed Syndicate (PC), SOMA (PC), Game of Thrones Season One (Telltale Games, 2014-2015) (PC), Tales from the Borderlands (Telltale Games, 2014-2015) (PC), Fallout 4 (PC), One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 (PS3)
2016: Firewatch (PC) - Quite a unique game, the story was pretty good, and the game is beautiful. Honorable Mentions: Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC), Pokémon Sun/Moon (3DS), VA-11 HALL-A (PC), Civilization VI (PC)

Didn't expect this to be a wall of text (sorry)! A lot of games from the same series, I know.
I'm currently in a ''slump'', and haven't been feeling like doing anything, even playing video games (which I usually love doing), so this is a nice reminder that there are so many great games.

1999 - Pokemon Gold What can I say? It's Pokemon and its the first one I was introduced to by my older brother on his GBC.
2000 - Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask Awesome game. A game everyone has to play and a game everyone has played.
2001 - Halo: Combat Evolved Used to always watch my brother play this and only played through this myself recently.
2002 - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA) My second favourite Zelda game.
2003 - Jurassic Park: Operation Genisis Fuck this game is so good. Oh yeah, and expensive.
2004 - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas My first GTA game and by far my favourite.
2005 - Forza Motorsport The game that started my obsession wit racing games and made me a Xbox faithful.
2006 - Gears of War The co-op in this game is second to none and a 360 staple.
2007 - Mass Effect/Pokemon Diamond This one is a tie. Mass Effect is my favourite series of all time and almost flawless but Pokemon Diamond holds a special place in my heart due to nostalgia.
2008 - Grand Theft Auto IV The story, the gameplay, everything. So awesome.
2009 - Dragon Age: Origins Bioware is probably my favourite developer and rules western RPGs along with Bethesda.
2010 - Mass Effect 2 Again, my favourite series. This is my favourite instalment.
2011 - Batman: Arkham City Huge Batman fan. The comics, the movies and most certainly the Arkham games.
2012 - Mass Effect 3 The ending was cool, I don't care what people say. Same great gameplay.
2013 - Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 2013 was great for games and this game only narrowly wins. GTA V is a close second.
2014 - South Park: The Stick of Truth I love South Park and this is just like an extended episode.
2015 - Fallout 4 So far my favourite game this generation. I love Bethesda and Fallout. The lore is awesome and the game just kicks so much ass.
2016 - Forza Horizon 3 I love this game but to be honest there are a lot of games I havent played yet but DOOM and Battlefield 1 look like they could be some of my favourites.
