So, I already got into the HUB, with an awful character on level 6, and after finishing the quests there, go to the Boneyard, where it was impossible for me to continue, since I can't kill the mother deathclaw. Only after a LOT of trial and error, and almost abandoning the game, I decided to use a guide, and, to my surprise, the Boneyard should be the last of the optional areas you should visit!

Like the first time I played Wasteland 1, I am a little frustrated with my character, since I created it without following any guide, so it have almost no energy weapons skills, and I choose Small Guns AND unarmed as tag skills, thinking that after I could choose another one. But at the same time, that's the idea of roleplaying, I don't create the ultimate character, but one that have strengths and weaknesses.
So I think I will continue playing this one, maybe made another one later on a different difficulty. It have good agility and intelligence, but not that much strength.

I like the game, it seems really advanced in some stuff to his age, like the quests and the fact that it give you options to finish each one your way. Some other things are frustrating: Three times I have entered the boneyard without putting away my guns, an action that have a very unintuitive interface, and forget to save before, so I have to reload a very old save from an hour ago. The combat can be a little boring too, not many tactics per se, with so little Action Points per turn.

The deathclaw mother was literally one of the last things I did lol, with end-game gear and level 15 or so.

Re: tagged skills, there's a perk that grants you a fourth one.

Also, difficulty can be changed any time in options. But yeah, the interface is the most dated aspect of the game :/

So, I finished the game! :D
I have to say, it got really easy after I got the power armor. I didn't helped the Children of the Apocalypse, but I think that I got the rest of the game, choosing always the 'good' option.
After the last time where I almost abandoned because of the difficulty (but it was only a confusion), I started to ramp up on every level my energy weapon points, and I have to say that they are overpowered, everything falls after two or three shots from a plasma rifle.
In L.A. Boneyard, I helped the Blades, participating myself on the battle, but then the game crashed, and since I didn't save, I don't have the patience to do it again, since it's a rather easy battle. So I gave them the weapons and told them to clean it themselves. I got 2000 xp and no loot, but whatever.

The ending cinematic was great. They put every action that you take in account and the story of the places you go and how you affect them are well made. I think I will see them all in Fallout 2 :P
I got a little disappointed by the ending of the game per se. I talked The Master out of his plans, but I was expecting some big philosophical reason to change his mind, but I only got the 'well, they can't reproduce so you are fucked', and he saying 'oh, well, guess I am fucked', without thinking alternative courses or anything. I got the talking right the first time I try it, so that was a nice thing for me.

In the end, the game is great, and got better when you get accustomed to his old ways and how it works, something that I only got into after finishing the first main mission. It got some frustrating stuff, like the interface and some quality of life stuff (In the end, I got tired of my character taking out his weapon, inspecting it and saving it again, all before looting anything), but it have so many stuff in the place of dialog options, ways of solving problems and options to finish quests, that more than compensate for that.

Okay really late Eow update but I was on holiday so didn't have any chance to play any games well anyway he's a list of things which I've done since.

I redid the glow got in and out quickly as i knew what i was looking for. Went to the brotherhood and talked everyone. Went back to the hub and completed the missions there and lost tycho trying to take back the farm house. Went to bonetown killed the mother deathclaw and got the gun runners on side with the blades. I'm about to raid adytown but npc i want alive keep dying i'm gonna try again tomorrow. After that back to the brotherhood.

I think I'm close to the end there seems to be only more locations I haven't been too yet and usually an area takes me an hour so I might be done by the end of the bank holiday (tis a bank holiday here in the uk)

Right just finished Fallout. Ultimately my thoughts on the game is that is a very well put together CRPG with some great story elements in the game but is let down by unintuitive controls and rather unbalanced skill management

I just beat the game.

That was a lot of fun. I started weening myself off the walkthrough after Necropolis. I still used it throughout the rest of the game, but only when I got confused. For the most part I did everything myself after that.

I encountered an issue that made the game practically unplayable when I booted it up yesterday. My mouse wouldn't read very well for small adjustments, which made picking a specific spot to travel, or choosing speech options very difficult. I googled the issue and found that turning "Enhanced Pointer Precision" off in my mouse settings would fix it, and it did.

Today I beat the game. The interface is very dated, and left me confused a lot and I had no idea how to play at all in the beginning, but I really enjoyed the game. The amount of options to solve different issues was awesome.

+ Grand open world with some interesting factions and areas
+ Great role playing elements with multiple ways of completing a quest with different results
+ Great overarching villain and story line to keep you hooked
-Unintitive gameplay design can make the game difficult to get into
-Unbalanced skillsets means that certain and relatively useless
-Friendly NPC companions are relatively useless especially end game
Overview: Fallout is an old classic traditional RPG with some great world building and interesting plots and villains held back by outdated AI and gameplay design.

I'm inclined to agree with Knalb, Tastita and Keboh. I gave it 9/10, but in retrospect 8/10 is probably a better score (though I hesitate to rerate games in case I forget something). Very good old game, but not very intuitive at parts. The game more than makes up for it, but these blemishes are still visible at all times.

I'm glad that people enjoyed taking a stab (or punch or shot or blast) at this classic, and that we all got to beat it for the first time together(-ish).

So, to the more professionals in the game, I have to ask: Are there interesting things on the 'empty' parts of the map? On the south east part there is nothing marked, only desert, but maybe there is some nice surprise to find there and I lost it?.

There are certain special/random encounters but trying to find them directly may take a lot of time.

Besides that no, I don't think there's anything left. Once you have all the slots on the map filled, you've pretty much discovered everything.

Thanks for the answer! :D

They seemed a lot more common in Fallout 2. Or maybe it just felt that way because I played that game a lot more.

I got the moo I say encounter multiple times, UFO encounter, an encounter with a very large foot print - apparently left over as an easter egg to what the plot originally had planned, some crazy car dealer who was convinced all his junk cars still ran, and probably a few others.

Luck - 9 / 10

What I don't get is that everyone says the followers were useless, which once I got laser weapons, I agree, but I wouldn't have made it anywhere without them. My small arms was 70 which I thought was okay, but I'd miss all the time, and barely did damage it seemed, even using the .223 pistol which was pretty nice.

Yeah, I found them pretty useful in the mid game, even when they keep dying in battles.

They were useful especially early game but they should've been more control over them. Maybe able to upgrade there weapons and armor but most of the time they stuck to there standard weapons

You can upgrade weapons and armor. IDK about base game, but with Fallout fixt, you trade weapons and armor via barter window, then there's a dialogue option to swap armor or equip best weapon.

Also, for those wanting a similar experience with updated controls, Wasteland 2 might scratch that itch. And while I've not played them yet, ATOM RPG, UnderRail and The Age of Decadence are supposed to be similar modern games.
