I also started Death's door a few days ago. I made it to the swamp/jungle area and retrieved the horn.. I think the combat is really neat and I think the style is really cute. I have many of the same thoughts that others have, a map would be really nice, I can only remember so many locations. While I have really enjoyed most of the bosses I've defeated the enemy wave spam gets old pretty quickly. I find myself just rushing past non-essential enemies not bothering to fight a lot of the time at this point in my playthrough.

I don't have much else to say about it, I've just had a similar experience with the game that others are conveying. My experience of it is overall positive so far, but I can't say that I love it.

Not sure if this is due to playing on Switch handheld but details are so small - it's hard to notice things!

I played on a PS5 and yeah this was an issue for me as well

Death's Door

100%ed this tonight and got the true ending.

Pretty cool game with satisfying challenge and creative boss fights marred by at times frustrating difficulty, lack of QOL features (namely no map), and excessive backtracking.

I played this on Switch and the load times were pretty bad as well.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Had my first play session:

Escaped from dinner with the family and it looks like daddy is chasing me but made it through the hatch into the basement where I saved

Bit of a slow start but it does a great job of setting the mood. I have actully watched LPs of this game before but even parts that I knew was coming got me. Atm this feels like a pure horror game and it's keeping me on edge. this is the third RE I've played but I think it's the most effective so far for horror but will see. It def taking alot of inspiration from the texas chainsaw movies though

Defeated the Urn Witch. Some time has passed between play sessions so there’s been some fumbling around for where to go. I’m also encountering the backtracking. Unlocking shortcuts on the map helps as I’m progressing, but having to travel back after failing at a boss is still annoying. It’s not a huge path usually, but it drags when you just want to jump right back into the action. I also find that I’m not having to use many seeds for health flowers. If I’m going to have to backtrack anyway due to dying I may as well use an earlier flower I planted along the way. I’ve just entered the Forest area.

Plot-wise, there’s something suspicious with who we’re working for. And the Lord of Doors. If this was a murder mystery they’d be my number one suspect.

Since my last update I finished Deaths Door, and I played through the entirety of Inside today. The last little bit of Death's Door that I played had the same issues as the rest of the game. The dungeons got really tedious and repetitive after a little bit, it's definitely not the game's strong suit. While the wave combat and everything wasn't very enjoyable for me, all of the bosses were really fun. I also found the whole story and narrative to be pretty interesting.

Inside is fine as well. I really like everything about the game, except for the puzzles. The puzzles are just really tedious and at times a little cryptic. A few of them were pretty fun but they overall just bogged my experience down. But everything else about the game, the platforming, art direction, and sort of artsy narrative I can appreciate.

I'm not planning on playing RE7 so that's it for me this month, I hope you all enjoy your playthroughs!

Completed Inside.

I found it to be pretty mediocre and I honestly enjoyed it's spiritual predecessor, Limbo, more so than I did this game.

It's not bad or anything, but the only moments I found myself having a lot of fun was near the end when you were controlling the blob and wreaking havoc on everything.

I found the ending pretty abrupt with not a lot of payoff as well.

Glad I played it, but not sure I'll ever be returning to it.

My gaming time used to be dedicated to an mmo, but I'm burnt out on it and want to branch out with the games I play. This is my first time joining the game of the month and I'm looking forward to trying to getting to these.

Just finished Inside and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the way the story is told and how atmospheric it is. Really like how it fosters discussions/theories online, must have been a fun time to play close to release. I definitely want to go and play Limbo soon.

Reached the second safe room. Got one more last cerebus head to collect. Daddy is frightfully insane and has been surprising me in lots of places

Bit too heavy on the chasing atm but seen glimmers of different gameplay styles. Will have to wait to see in the future

First CHAINSAW FIGHT!! Okay that was fun. Reached the greenhouse and fighting the mother

Can't deny my frustration with this game. Dealing with enemies is annoying for me especially with the amount of punishment they can take. Guess I need to learn to run. Still I enjoy the puzzles and the variety in them. Bosses are varied so far so that's good

Hi everyone,
October's been a tough month for me so I haven't contributed as much as I expected.
I'm done with Inside = the second playthrough unfortunately didn't change my mind. I just don't click with this kind of game.
I'm on RE7 right now. Very strong first hours and best RE I've played in years so far. Hopefully I'll complete it before Halloween.
Pleased to see Death's Door is well received overall. I wasn't sure with that suggestion.

Nearly done with Death’s Door, it’s just the final boss I’m trying to beat. I decided to not go for true ending right now as I don’t feel like getting into the requirements. Also may have made it worse for myself by deliberately skipping flower pots. Did go for all the collectibles I could though.

I was fully expecting a full of himself final boss but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s just that no one wants to die.

That’s it for Death’s Door. Despite my earlier complaints it’s still a good game. I probably would have gotten annoyed with the enemy swarms more but I just saw it as another way to grind. With that, even though it got tedious sometimes I would just take the long way back to get some extra souls along the way. Finished with 3 out of 4 skills maxed.

Death's Door
Completion October 14, 2024
Main+Extras 13h 11m 3s
Notes 5 shrines, Bow upgraded and 12 shiny things
Review
+Simple and workable combat
+Series of great boss fights
+Hides it’s secret really well in the environments
-Relies too much on throwing as many enemies as it can at you for difficulty
-Lacks any health mechanics within combat with limited health
-At times game is too dark to see the environment properly
Overview:
Death’s Door is a decent top down hack n slash which is held together with with a world built around well hidden secrets and a series of interetsing and unique bosses. It unforunately held back by a tendency to try and get dark souls level difficulty by throwing as many enemies waves at the player as possible. There is also issus where things aren’t easy to see on the screen and can be easily missed.

Defeated the mother and have got to the point where I have both keys available (need topick up the blue key but ran out of space). Finished the happy Birthday video tape. Enjoyed that escape room level

Getting use to the idea of running normally I shoot everything but this time ammo is alot more sparse compared to other RE game. Keeps me on edge where I have to plan where and when I fight
23/10/2024 22:00
Got through the testing centre and reached the storage area in the boathouse. Like the use of the happy birthday puzzle and if you run through that tape you get all the details you need to unlock the crank door without the oil leaking out. Wondering now if you can do the same in that tape
25/10/2024 22:05
Reached the crashed ship and playing as Mia and have finished the old tape. Found out Ethan is at the bottom of the ship so heading there
26/10/2024 22:28
Okay that me done with the main story. Looks like theres one free dlc left to do. There are two paid but cba buying them. So did enjoy the game but did find the standard enemies frustating to deal with espeically as they wobbled all over the place. Wasn't enamoured with the story but did enjoy the baker family and the boss fights involving them as well as the escape room style levels it builds around. Overall enjoyed it but preferred the first resident evil. Will see if I can complete the DLC tomorrow.
27/10/2024 19:28
Okay just finished the DLC. Yeah not that good. Bit reliant on the combat which I think was the weakest part of the base game. Does away a bit too much with the puzzle room setup of the base and more on the metroid style gameplay as R2D2 noted. prob a 5 or 6 for me. I'll write up reviews for the base and DLC at some point but now back to Baldurs Gate 3

Review
+Successfully takes the Resident Evil franchise and transfer it into FPS
+The baker family does a great job of being a threat while chewing the scenery
+Series of puzzle rooms with different themes and threats
-Regular enemies are more of a nuisance then a threat
-Game can be too dark in places which prevent good explorations
-Lack any major scare in the game
Overview
Resident Evil 7 takes it’s franchise successfully into FPS and is able to do a few new things with the baker being a great overarching threat that hunts you throughout the corresponding level. Each with there own theme as well as series of unique puzzles for each of them which also can be used for there boss battles. The game though is limited in the scares and at least in a non VR play through rather tame for a horror game and it’s not helped by the standard enemies being more of a wobbly nuisance then a threat and are at times frustrating to deal with which is not helped by the game in places too dark to see anything in the environment.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - Not a Hero
Completion October 27, 2024
Main+Extras 1h 40m 40s
Notes Normal, 4 coins, 5 files
Review
Not a Hero is a continuation of the end of the game involving more of the mine which acts as it’s level. It unfortunately is reliant what I feel is the weakest point of the game that being the combat. It lacks a lot of the puzzles which are dealt with in the game and becomes more of a metroidvania (get an item that opens up the next area). However it does make you powerful enough to take on the enemies and enough ammo and it still has the feel of the base game so it’s not all bad.

Want to apologize as I did not get around to playing Inside this month. I have barely gamed at all the past couple weeks so I sadly just never got around to it like I planned 😅. I’ll definitely try to share my thoughts on it when I do eventually get to it though!

I'm one day late but I'm done with RE7 (review here). The game unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations after its super-strong opening, but it was interesting anyway and since I probably wouldn't have play it by myself, thanks to the community for introducing me to the lovely Baker family!
