Except for the FFXIV stuff, we got pretty similar stats with 78 completions and almost the same average time (~15h).

So I have finished 34 games (and visual novels) during 2021 (26 shown above + 1 Vn not counted on this site + 7 replays and I'm not even counting another 100 hours put into Total War: Warhammer 2...). With an average of 56 hours, I played a lot of long games last year. Considering I almost spent my entire summer on 5 Trails of games it's no wonder. Compared to 2020 (31 completions) it's an improvement both in numbers and overall gaming time. I'm actually quite satisfied with my gaming experience in 2021.

My completions (in chronological order with the most recent up top):

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
Subnautica: Below Zero
Kinkoi: Golden Loveriche
A Plague Tale: Innocence
Crying Suns
Assassin's Creed: Origins
VenusBlood FRONTIER International
Fullmetal Daemon: Muramasa
Metro Exodus
Watch Dogs: Legion
Kill It With Fire
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Azure
Senren * Banka
Tales of Graces F
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love
Indivisible
Halo: The Master Chief Collection (counted as one considering I finished half of it in 2020)
Valkyria Chronicles 3: Unrecorded Chronicles
Riddle Joker
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Baldr Sky
Master Magistrate

Standout moments from 2021 would go the following games:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel saga - It has been one hell of a journey, which I admit I wish was shorter sometimes and it definitely wasn't perfect, but there is nothing quite like it out there. If you get into it it's an amazing experience.

Baldr Sky - A Vn/game hybrid of a behemoth (two 50 hour games rolled into one). It has a pretty engaging battle system and a really exciting and interesting story. It lags a bit in the middle but overall it's a superb experience.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) - It's a quite fresh and more grounded approach to the storytelling compared to the much more action-flick style campaigns that most of the other Cod games were going for. It's quite good.

The biggest surprises:

Assassin's Creed: Origins is a pretty entertaining game if you don't mind some of the repetition and the greater focus on side content because if you keep a healthy balance between exploration/main and side content/crafting it's quite engaging. It's really entertaining how Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love made its "reading" bits so interactive, and as a result, entertaining to sit through.

The not so good:

I really didn't click with either Indivisible and A Plague Tale: Innocence though I recognize them as fairly good games. Tales of Graces F had a pretty great battle system but even that couldn't hold my interest considering how bland everything (besides the cast perhaps) else was. Watch Dogs: Legion had an interesting gimmick but that runs out of steam really fast and it's just a really mediocre game overall.

I beat 34 games this year. The surge in gaming related to the pandemic continues. Last year's (43) and this year's (34) combined are the most games completed in two years since any two years in the 2012-2014 range.

Average time to beat: 13h 16m (just one more minute than in 2020). Total time recorded: 16d 14h. I retired another 9, marked with an R below, which adds a few days of playtime (including the tragedy of having my laptop stolen when I was well into my Pillars of Eternity playthrough).

I've made a great deal of Pandemic Progress over two years. At this time in 2019, my backlog was at 63 games and 61 days. In 2020, it was at 53 games and 48 days. Now, at the turn of 2022, it is at 46 games and 48 days (so I have fewer, but longer, games than last year; however, I am well into several!). Last year, my stated goal was to clear out my backlog somewhere, whether Steam, Twitch, PS4, Epic or whatever, just get one of them empty. Success! I finally finished my remaining Blizzard games, and finished up all but one game on Twitch/Amazon that I had sitting around. A lot of what I played was from XBox Game Pass, which I am currently subscribed to for $1 for 3 months and which is the best deal in gaming. That, plus all the free Epic games all year...I don't remember the last time I purchased a video game. I'll take this trend to continue, please and thank you. Nearly all my backlog right now are freebies on Steam and Epic, and the PS4 games I've been amassing. In 2022, my goal is to further clear out a platform/storefront. I will probably start with Steam since there are fewer there. Last year, I also said I did not want to increase my backlog (success!). Still, 46 games is daunting and my wishlist has even more than that! Next year, I would love for my wishlist not to be so big...

By order of date, I completed or retired (with an R):

Feb 06 - Broken Age - Act 1
Feb 08 - Hitman 2 (2018)
Feb 12 - Everything
Feb 15 - GNOG
Feb 21 - Into the Breach
Feb 21 - 80 Days
Feb 22 - Undertale
Mar 18 - Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Apr 09 - RUINER
Apr 14 - Observer
Apr 17 - Before I Forget
Apr 17 - Cultist Simulator (R)
Apr 26 - Untitled Goose Game
May 22 - Prey
May 24 - Spiritfarer (R)
May 27 - Control
Jun 07 - Nier: Automata
Jun 07 - Kentucky Route Zero (R)
Jun 10 - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Jun 15 - Dishonored: Death to the Outsider
Jun 16 - The Medium
Jun 16 - Nex Machina
Jun 21 - Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Jun 29 - Donut County
Jul 01 - Pillars of Eternity (R)
Jul 18 - Wreckfest (R)
Jul 23 - Stories Untold
Jul 25 - The Red Strings Club
Jul 27 - The Evil Within 2
Aug 05 - Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void
Aug 16 - Diablo III: Reaper of Souls
Oct 23 - Tyranny
Nov 12 - Hollow Knight
Nov 18 - Twelve Minutes (R)
Dec 03 - Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Dec 09 - Death Squared (R)
Dec 12 - The Riftbreaker (R)
Dec 12 - Dicey Dungeons (R)
Dec 13 - Psychonauts 2
Dec 14 - Halo Infinite
Dec 21 - Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Dec 29 - The Artful Escape
Dec 31 - DARQ

Best: I gave 100%s to Control, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Tyranny, and Hollow Knight. Each of those was so memorable. Fallen Order was the biggest surprise. I wouldn't have played it except my brother insisted that I try it at his house one time and I thought, "Shit, I may have overlooked this..." Control was just so freaking creative and bananas (and I'd just played Prey; the comparisons of the two sci-fi shooters were unkind to Prey). The New Colossus was a blast. Tyranny has one of the best stories I've ever played, and the "play as the bad guy" thing was so much more than the gimmick I'd assumed. And Hollow Knight caused me to remove pretty much every other metroidvania from my wishlist. I mean, who needs another one? This one is near perfect and there's a sequel coming.

Worst: I tend to retire things that would get a low score from me, but things that I finished and gave a 60% or 70% that, at the end of the year, I remember with some disdain, include Ruiner, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and Donut County. Retired games that give me an especially bad feeling now are Kentucky Route Zero and Twelve Minutes.

Highlights:
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World - Delight from start to finish with its cute art style, very light challenge, and a myriad of collectibles. I found that the collectibles are where the game really shows its creativity as you are always expected to look in the most unexpected regions. With a great reward for having completed the game 100%, I am glad to have played through it from start to finish. Only regret is not playing it on the WiiU for some HD goodness but the 3DS was still convenient enough to play this gem.

Blue Fire - A delightful 3D platformer that took me by surprise. At the time of release, it did have its fair share of glitches but it was such a beautiful and challenging concept that drove me to love this game. The challenge rooms are what make this game as incredible as it is due to it providing a series of platforming puzzles that really make you utilize all of the game's mechanics to survive. I am glad they added checkpoints in the future updates... not that I even got to use them as it makes the game more accessible for others. Highly recommend this game and the devs just keep pushing out updates which is awesome.

Dark Souls 3 - Another delight in the Fromsoft experience. Wonderful boss fights and a beautiful world to explore. Some of those fights will always stand out. Weirdly, I loved the others in the series more than this game but how can I not add a Fromsoft game into my highlights.

Metroid: Zero Mission - Nice and tight Metroid that harkens back to the clean-ness that is Super Metroid. Plus a special something at the end which makes it stand out as something innovative. Really glad I got to play this game, especially with how smooth it ran.

Resident Evil Village - I have been on a Resident Evil binge with my brother and we have played the RE 2 remake, RE3 remake and now this game. What an absolute delight. It went from horror eerliy on to straight-up action but I thought of almost nothing else in our periods of rest in between. Such a delight to discover what the game had to offer and dang, was it exhilarating. off the rails but in a wonderful way.

Worst:
Kingdom Hearts III - Ooof I was way too excited for this one when it came out. I then played just the first world and, despite the graphics blowing me away, this game was a convoluted mess that relied on minigames and special attacks more than calculated moves. I felt bored often and just wanted the game to be done. I was sad because I honestly expected so much more. I got the DLC but I don't know if I can find the motivation to play through it at this point.

Panzer Dragoon: Remake - Just an empty feeling game. Play once and you feel like you have seen everything. I had no motivation to play it over for a better score, I just wanted it off my system by the end of my playthrough.

Didn't have as much free time in 2021 as I did in 2020, especially near the end of the year. I also failed my goal of beating a game every month but oh well. I didn't actually beat anything in all of 2020, so it was nice to get back into it with 29 completions in 2021.

Some highlights were OMORI, Deltarune Chapter 2, OFF, Yume Nikki, and OneShot, all of which hover around 8.5-9/10 for me.

this was the most played year of my life(except 2004-2008 before i moved out of home)
i became jobless and i was in hospital, so i had tons of time to finally play all the shmups, i have ever wanted.
i really wonder, how some of you are managing your life while playing all those games.
