Replying to beearmy
Condemned 2 worked perfectly on my rig (11900k / rtx 3080 / 32gb / 1tb ssd, running at rock-solid 60 frames in 4k with no artifacts or crackling audio), but you have to use Xenia Canary instead of the regular master build, Steam Deck just isn't beefy enough to emulate it properly, even in 720p. Too bad the controls are garbage regardless of the platform, the PS3 version is also known to be the worst version due to audio-related issues.

I was also pleasantly suprised to see The Saboteur returning to Steam, even though it's exactly the same version as when it's been delisted (no Origin launcher though, woop!). I've tried it out on the Deck and it runs fantastic, I'll definitely be replaying it once more!

Just one game in March as well as in February:

- Doki Doki Literature Club! - PC - 19/03 - 4:50 h

I don't really know what to say about it. I liked it, although I don't usually play visual novels. It's better to play it without knowing much about it.

The reason for having completed just one game (besides work) it's that I've been playing longer games, such as Persona 3 Reload or FM24, and specially The Binding of Isaac again...

So I have finished a few things in March, such as:

Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters – The core gameplay is extremely good if you like the XCOM-style turn-based combat, but the game is way too hard for its own good. At least I believe the difficulty wasn’t balanced well, the game constantly punishes you for no good reason.

Honkai: Star Rail - Pacth 2.1 - I'm counting this because the next part of the story was a good 6-8 hours of content, and I didn't even touch the sidequests.

Marvel’s Spider-Man – A really fun game with very satisfying traversal, fun combat, and an entertaining story. Not sure about the filler content that litters the map Ubisoft style, though.

Warhammer 40k: Boltgun – My very first boomer-shooter, but I can’t say that it sold the genre for me. The core gameplay and gunplay are satisfying but it was the kind of mindless fun that grew repetitive fairly fast for me. Also, the Warhammer flair didn’t do much for the game, it felt to me that the fact that this game takes place in the Warhammer 40k universe is pretty irrelevant.

Small completion month with a lot of good stuff. Been lacking on my 2024 completions overall this year.

03/03- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations (9/10)
03/05- Pac-Man World 2 (6/10)
03/15- Rise of the Tomb Raider (7.5/10)
03/28- The Ultimate Doom (8.5/10)

Most Favorite: This one definitely has to go to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations. I will refrain from spoiling anything, but it is such a fantastic conclusion to an excellent trilogy of games. The villains are consistently great, whether they be entertainingly over-the-top or blood-boilingly despicable. Even the worst case in the game is still good.

Least Favorite: Pac-Man World 2 has a lot to like about it and a lot to dislike. It feels like the best possible game made based off of all the worst aspects of Crash 1. 100%-ing this game is awful but ignoring all collectibles renders most of the game worthless. Not a great outing, but not a completely terrible one.

Personal Recommendation: I had my reservations about The Ultimate Doom going into it but I was beyond pleasantly surprised to find out that the game is still extremely fun to this day. Aside from Thy Flesh Consumed, I'm not sure if the version I played is one-to-one with how it originally released but it is a marvelously fun game that aged like a fine wine.

-Kung Fu Panda: why does monkey sound like he's from nigeria? gameplay is servicable at best and much padding, about what you'd expect from a quick cashgrab kids game. 4/10
-God of war: actually still holds up to a certain extent, certain areas were a drag to get through but generally a pleasant experience, definitelly better than chain of olympus. 7.5/10
-cureocity: cute short turn based game with cozy vibes and somewhat likeable characters, nothing special but i appreciate it for what it is. 6/10

2 games for me:

9th March - Return of the Obra Dinn - 7h 25m 25s
10th March - Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon - 36h 32m 14s*
*All endings. Finished the first ending last month

Ranking:
2nd - Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon - A really enjoyable mech game. built around building and customizing multiple mechs for different situations and a great amount of boss fights to get through. It is however let down by it's camera and lack in variety in basic enemies
1st - Return of the Obra Dinn - A fantastic detective game that doesn't hold your hand but provides plenty of details to allow for deduction as well as only rewarding after getting 3 correct deductions

Whoops I'm usually good about doing this right away, been a bit busy though. One completion for me this month, which was our Game of the Month!

3/24 - Return of the Obra Dinn (PS4) - 9h 20m

I enjoyed it and I think its a very detailed game that's well made, although I don't know if I liked it as much as others. Maybe I wasn't patient enough with it at the end with the harder to determine people though.

I have been on holiday this month, so I only managed three medium-sized finishes.

04-Mar-2024 - Condemned: Criminal Origins (PC) – 6H51M
24-Mar-2024 - Anna's Quest (PC) – 10H36M
25-Mar-2024 - Epistory: Typing Chronicles (PC) – 8H02M

Condemned: Criminal Origins: an FPS that emphasizes melee combat and investigative features all wrapped up in a horror-action envelope. You can pick up pipes and planks right off the environment and use them as weapons, and so can your enemies. Sure, it was new and exciting at the time, but now it feels super junky, and the environments are so dark that my eyes were popping out of my head within 10 minutes. I did not enjoy this game much.

Anna’s quest is one of a bunch of Daedalic Entertainment point-and-click adventures I got on the cheap. I only play a couple of games from that genre every year, but this is a company that does them well, and this was no exception. Good storytelling, a quirky cast of characters, and a final chapter that circles back to most characters' youth and ties the story in a nice little bow. True enough, there are some annoying design choices, and the story is just ok. Still, there were very few puzzles I found unfair, and I liked the game overall.

Epistory: Typing Chronicles is a typing game where all your interaction is done by typing words. For example, enemies have various words floating above them and you must type those words to kill the enemy. The game has four dungeons to explore, each opening a new ability that allows you to explore the world further. It’s an interesting mechanic that makes teaching how to speed type fun and the developers managed to pace a good variety of new powers to keep the 7 to 9 hours of playtime interesting. Still, overall, it does become repetitive, and the story is not very good – so it might be a good speed typing application, but not a great game

Overall, Anna’s Quest was my best game this month, which probably means this one was a below-average month in terms of quality.

To reduce my backlog, I am purchasing only one new game for every four I complete from my backlog. Although this was not a fantastic month, the three games I finished, coupled with a carryover from last month meant I helped myself to Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on the cheap.

My Game Size Guide:
Tiny (0-2 hours), Small (2-6 hours), Medium (6-14 hours), Large (14-30 hours), Huge (30-62), Epic (62+)
