I can give a few hints if you like:
All the hammocks have the numbers of the crew on them and are taken down once they have died
You can set them to unknown but with there job title and people are more likely to hang around the people with the same job title or with a job involving assisting the officers
There should be a distinct feature near or on the person within the hammocks
Pay attention to the different rooms on the ship if the person in there then that's likely there job

Wow just finished the game with all fates complete and got the good ending.
I really struggled with getting into the game initially as I hate the feeling of being bewildered and having no idea what I am supposed to do, also the simple graphics and brightness really turned me off. But as I slowly worked out more fates, it started to grow and grow on me.
I loved learning about the terminology of sailing, seeing all the different uniforms and roles, following the story and experiencing all the gruesome deaths. *chefs kiss* Lucas Pope is a genius!
I had a similar issue as Knalb I thought the swirly tattoos were Celtic rather than Polynesian. Some fates did take a bit of trial and error - as in I knew what nationality or role the person is, just not the exact name.
Gems like these are the reason why I participate in GOTM. 9/10

Finished it now, though I ended up looking up a bit over half the names of characters in order to be able to see the last chapter.
I probably liked the game least out of everyone participating and commenting on here, but I absolutely acknowledge that it's mostly due to me not liking puzzle games in general. I had a grand time slowly exploring each chapter of the story and anticipating what happened, but once that was done and it came down to slowly figuring out every crew members names and fates in order to unlock the last piece of the story, it got really tedious for me, and started to feel like work. At that point I was very tempted to drop the game actually, and rather felt like playing something else that's more enjoyable.
After having looked up the remaining unsolved crew members on the wiki, I'm glad I didn't spend ages trying to figure them out myself. Some of them were very obtuse. If you're someone who enjoys that kind of thing though, I can absolutely see how this game could be near perfect.
For me, I really wish there was a hint system, or at the very least a way to quickly jump into a fate straight from the book, without having to leg it to the location on the ship first. That more than anything felt like the game wasn't appreciating my time as a player.
I really enjoyed the story in this one though, with the way it was being told so disjointedly. Really built anticipation and made me want to dig into it and learn what took place.
As mentioned before, loved the sound design though. The recording quality was really nice, and I loved the OST, ambient sounds and the little jingle when you correctly figure out 3 fates. Was also very happy with the voice acting.
I'll give the game an 8/10 trying to be objective, though for personal enjoyment it would be more of a 7/10.

I also would have appreciated a hint system as well to nudge me along, but glad to hear that you saw it through to the end and still had satisfaction from that. I’m pretty sure I would have been frustrated more myself but by now I know what my limits are. 😅 Still wouldn’t mind revisiting this later to see if I can solve it better.

Finally started tonight! Took me a couple minutes to get used to the graphics but it quickly felt natural to me!
I’m not super far into yet, but I’ve figured out the first few more obvious names and fates. I can tell the first few flashbacks were definitely simpler and was a bit of a tutorial, and it’s certainly getting a lot more complicated already now I’m seeing more of the crew and events. It’s definitely fun going through the memories even though I haven’t solved much yet and seeing the story unfold in reverse.
Definitely seems a bit daunting at the moment with all the crew members but I’m excited to solve all the mysteries and how complex it’ll get and see if I can solve all the fates of the crew members! I don’t know if I’ve played a game that was completely focused on detective gameplay so it’s definitely different and intriguing for me!

Played a bit more the past couple nights! I’ve officially have unlocked all the memories I can on the ship and went and got the bad ending since I only discovered a few fates when I left. Luckily I was able to pick back up and now I’m trying to figure all the remaining fates! Definitely am having to use my brain to puzzle things together as I’m getting to the harder ones now. Definitely feels rewarding when you figure things out! And it’s definitely crazy how much you can figure out from all the stills and you can feel the chaos that was going on during the ships travels as things were falling a part. Definitely curious to know the final bits of the story!

Oh I played this game quite a while ago! I really enjoyed it, deduction games are an absolute blast for me, but I will admit that I had to look a few things up at the end when it got into the nitty gritty. It's a very fun concept and story, though I agree there are times when the game is a little too gotcha on the phrasing of specific deaths. I know I had to redo quite a few that died due to the spiny crab beasts.
