I definitely like it, although so far it’s been mostly used to play PS4 games, as the only PS5 games I’ve really played so far have been Astro’s Playroom and Miles Morales. I really love how fast everything loads though. I’m really looking forward to playing the new Ratchet and Clank though and Deathloop looks cool too, but since my birthday and Christmas are coming up I’m waiting until then to see if I get them as gifts.

October Update

I managed to get two more done this month, but I think this is probably gonna be it. At this point I'm pretty certain I won't be able to actually tick off every item on the list. Especially the 60+hrs time-waster one, which I wasn't sure about from the beginning anyway.
But I'm pretty happy with how many I got done and maybe I'll be able to tick one or two more off in the final months of the year.

Here is my Master Post.

BabyKiller (PC) | October 2nd | 18. A game where you play as a parent
Well... Guess where that baby came from.
Not much of a game. Just a little 5mins storytelling walking simulator, pretty much. But you are a parent.

AirXoniX (PC) | October 26th | 48. A game from a defunct developer
I finally beat this game from my childhood for the very first time.
AxySoft used to release shareware games and still to this day sells their games. But they haven't made a new game in at least a decade.

That's 2 titles crossed off the list for this month.
49 games done in total and 9 left to go.

Only one game for this month.

22. A game that’s not for the whole family: Bioshock 2

I have 8 or 9 challenges left to complete. At this point though, I don't see myself beating more than 2 or 3. I suppose we'll see.

(Master List) October Update!
(well actually I forgot to update this for the past couple months so there's just the one thing from September)

15. An educational game: Raji: An Ancient Epic - 9/22
* This game covers a lot about the Hindu pantheon and if I can't consider that educational then I really got nothing of worth out of it. Awful game.

Remaining Challenges
7. A game with an alternate history scenario - ryse
13. A shovelware game - Earthworms?
19. A randomly picked game (use the randomizer tool on the site): Randomized up The Pathless! Working on it!
32. A time-sink (60+ hours): Judging by my luck with these last few xenoglyphs, Returnal's Platinum Trophy might do this for me.
41. A really really old game (30+ years) - Famicom detective club?
54. Finish a game in one day but it needs to be at least 6 hours long: Maybe Solar Ash will fit this

6 more to go!

(Master List) November Update!

8. A game that takes place during a war: Ryse: Son of Rome It Takes Two - 11/24
- I'm sure I could find a more proper 'war' in my list of completions somewhere this year, but yeah why not, let's use the legit war between the wasps and the squirrels.
19. A randomly picked game (use the randomizer tool on the site): The Pathless - 11/26
- The first site-wide random pick I remember having less than zero interest in playing, so I was very glad when the second one turned out to be this!
32. A time-sink (60+ hours): Returnal - 11/26
- Replaying enough to get the platinum trophy had me clocking in at around 76 hours. Love the game, but man what a terrible trophy list.

Also thought I'd move some things around, like swapping Ryse here:

7. A game with an alternate history scenario - Ryse: Son of Rome - 3/23
13. A shovelware game - Earthworms - 7/21
- Personally this counts, as it's a passable game at best, and it sells like it's been tossed in the bargain bin. Purchased for $0.59.
41. A really really old game (30+ years) - Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir - 7/4/21
- I didn't play the original (1988), but the new versions are more just an incredible visual upgrade than they are a new game in any way; So I think it counts.
42. A game you shelved: Redout: Space Assault Knytt Underground - 7/15 (I misunderstood the challenge and never actually beat Redout, like a pledged to do with every challenge here. If the intent was a game that I retired this year, then yeah keep Redout.)
- Originally played Knytt for a tiny bit and immediately shelved for years. Wish I removed it from the shelf entirely.
44. A game with a real or fictional religion in it: Knytt Underground Eastshade - 10/24
Bonus: Beat a collection/compilation game: Cube Escape Collection - 8/28
- Just noticed this get added to OP. Would've used Phoenix Wright Trilogy but I already sort of did but not really but whatever.

Remaining Challenge
54. Finish a game in one day but it needs to be at least 6 hours long: I'm counting on Solar Ash fitting this, then I'm done!

3 more games this month and I'll probably beat another tomorrow.

44. A game with a real or fictional religion in it (this can be anything from Super Noah's Ark to Fallout 3): CIV IV 11/04/21
32. A time-sink (60+ hours): Fallout 4 11/12/21
3. A game you played a demo of: Hitman 2 11/26/21

Just 5 more to go, I can probably do it

1. A game you previously retired: Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest (2 missions left)
19. A randomly picked game: Mass Effect (About an hour left)
34. A game you've put off playing: Gears 5 (Barely Played)
41. A really really old game: Pilotwings (Not Started)
42. A game you shelved: Killzone: Shadowfall (Barely Played)

I've gotten 46/58 done this year so far. I'll keep at it, but unless I play a bunch of the Itchmas games and they happen to fit the challenge, it doesn't look like I'll be finishing.

(Master List) That's a Wrap!

54. Finish a game in one day but it needs to be at least 6 hours long: Solar Ash - 12/2

Solar Ash is stunningly beautiful and plays pretty great. I definitely wouldn't recommend forcing yourself to play any game for 6+ hours, and while I may very well have done it anyways with this gem, it definitely accentuated the repetitious structure and the tiny performance issues on PS5. Still, Solar Ash is a great time and I can definitely see myself coming back to grab the plat though the hardcore mode sounds like a slog.

This challenge was a lot of fun to plan for and keep track of, thanks for setting it up! 😁

I forgot to post my November update!

1. A game you previously retired: Superbeat Xonic - So I never officially retired this on the site, but when I bought it a few years ago I stopped playing about 10 minutes in because of joycon drift. So in that sense I retired it.

26. A developer's very first game: The Messenger - And what a glorious first game it was.

55. Beat a game with a robot/artificial lead: Enter the Gungeon - One of the characters you can play as is a robot, and another one is a sentient bullet.

The challenges I have left are:

9. A visual novel

15. An educational game

20. A game you bought just for the name

27. A game that would make your parent(s) disappointed in you:

29. A game you've finished before

42. Beat a game you'd dropped or had a long hold on

48. A game from a defunct developer

50. A crossover

Bonus: Beat a collection/compilation game:

So I have 9 to do. Some of these I can do this month, some I'm not sure of. I might have to look back at the games I beat this year and fill the gaps.

I know I won’t finish any games today or tomorrow, so this is my last post for the 2021 game challenge. I finished 59 games this year, but there were a few that didn’t fit any of the categories, so I only finished 53 of the 58 challenges. Overall, this was a fun way to ensure I played a variety of games and to see what others were playing, and I’m looking forward to the 2022 challenge.

First, here are the categories I didn’t finish and a brief explanation of why.

19. A randomly picked game: I used the randomizer on the site and it chose Lego City Undercover. I intended to play it and just never got around to it.
36. A game from a series that’s been remade/rebooted a million times: I was going to play a Tomb Raider game and use it for this slot, just didn’t find time.
42. A game you shelved: As it turns out, when I shelve a game it’s usually because I didn’t like it, so I tend not to return to them.
48. A game from a defunct developer: I had Fable chosen for this spot but didn’t have time.
51. A ripoff/knockoff: Most ripoffs or knockoffs are pretty bad, so I wasn’t very motivated to finish this challenge.

Finally, here is the total list of challenges I did finish:

1. A game you previously retired - Transistor
2. A game that was a launch title for a console - Majora’s Mask 3D (New 3DS XL)
3. A game you played a demo of - Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
4. A game from/about a different culture - Sayonara Wild Hearts
5. A game that won GOTY in any category - Super Mario Galaxy

I didn't get too much done in December.

9. A visual novel: Therapy with Dr. Albert Krueger - It is a visual novel

29. A game you've finished before: Pokemon Shining Pearl - I've already played Pearl, and since this is basically the same game with a few changes. I'm counting it.

54 challenges completed. Not bad if I say so.

My master list can be found here.

That makes it 41/58 games, as well as the Bonus Challenge completed this year! I completed no less than 64 games this year in total, more than doubled the amount of games i usually complete in a year. I am quite happy with that so thanks for this challenge! It really motivated me to finish more, and try a lot of different games as well in 2021. If there's a 2022 challenge, i will definitely look out for it, though i do have a lot more to do schoolwise next year
This was fun. Bye everyone!

A bit late in posting my list, but I finished 30/58 games this year. Didn't hit the big total I was hoping for, but honestly just pleased that I finished a lot more games this year than a lot of years, including going through some serious classics like SMW, Mega Man X, Yoshi's Island, Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid, Castlevania etc. I have not completed as many games in my life as I wished, so I am glad that this helped kick me in the pants to fully finish them. Definitely entering next year, and good luck to everyone who enters again!
