Updated 8 Months Ago

I would have loved this game as a kid back in the day. Chill and pretty easy platform game. Not very original but has a nice variation of powerups and different levels.Updated 1 Year Ago

A fun but extremely simple side-scrolling platformer with a power-up scheme based on Felix's bag of tricks. Enjoyable but lack of challenge eliminates any desire to replay.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Simple and slow but solid version of the NES platformer. Less variety in levels and enemies, but otherwise quite faithful to the original.Updated 2.5 Years Ago

Felix the Cat is a quirkly little platformer where you play as the titular character from the 'Felix the Cat' series of silent films, which I have not watched. The gameplay is fairly standard and simple; you traverse your way through several levels from left to right, dodging obstacles and defeating enemies, and occasionally fight a boss at the end. Sometimes you walk and other times you may swim on the water, swim under the water, or take to the skies. You have various attacks to utilise in order to defeat the scoundrels that are preventing you from seeing the ending screen. As original Felix, your only option is a meek boxing glove attack and you die in one hit, but as you obtain more Felix heads and hearts (cannibalism not condoned), you can get access to 'better' attacks. I put that in inverted commas, as the upgrades don't feel that much better. You do get a slightly, and I do mean slightly, longer range weapon to hit enemies with and maybe even a temperamental projectile in the case of the tank upgrade, which has this always-annoying arc to it, making it difficult to hit an enemy if they're right up in your business. With these upgrades to your fighting prowess, it also improves your health. If you get hit by an enemy you go down a stage in terms of upgrades until you get to the point where you keel over and die.
Despite this, the game is incredibly easy. Due to the wide open levels, it can provide an opportunity for multiple ways to beat a level, but as a dehydrated, exhausted man in the desert once said: there can be such a thing as too expansive. Most of the space consists of nothing but Felix heads or weak enemies and you can easily breeze through a level without so much as a magic trick. Additionally, the bosses are as easy as an ant in a spider's nest. The game can be completed rather quickly as one can expect from an NES platformer - other than the brutally difficult. This is definitely a game that's geared towards kids, but I did still have a slight bit of fun, despite the monotony of it all.

Visuals - 8 (While some of the later levels have a somewhat ugly aesthetic, most of the game had very vibrant colors and it looks like it could have been made for the SNES.)Sound - N/A (Was listening to music)
Story - 6 (Generic plot. The Professor steals Felix's girlfriend; Kitty, and demands Felix give him his magic bag, or he'll never see his girlfriend again. However, Felix has other plans, and goes to stop The Professor.
Controls - 8 (The controls were actually pretty fluid, but the jumping feels very strange. It's not like most platformers.)

Mediocre platformer. Lots of cool powerups and forms but repetitive and long levels.Updated 12 Years Ago
