Aug 23 - Madagascar (Xbox)
Aug 26 - Enter the Matrix (Xbox)
Aug 28 - Record of Lodoss War (Dreamcast) REPLAY
Aug 30 - The Tale of Despereaux (PS2)

Obviously I played far too many games in August to talk about each one individually! But I can list highlights, minus the replays.
- The new Fire Emblem game, which is easily one of the best games in the series that I've played so far.
- Drakengard 3. Yoko Taro returning to the franchise with an absolutely bizzare and beautiful sequel, albeit the game had a framerate of like 3.
- Mega Man X Command Mission. A JRPG Mega Man! It starts out strong but they clearly had to rush by mid game, and the encounter rate jumps up monumentally and the story just GIVES UP.
- Gamera 2000. A crazy Gamera themed Panzer Dragoon ripoff with horrible live action FMV. It's short and sweet and absolutely wonderful.
- Madagascar. A surprisingly decent movie license game from Toys For Bob (Skylanders, Star Control) that, despite a few missteps, was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end.

April 5 - Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (PS2) - Top notch 6th gen 3rd person shooter, and one of my favorite games period. The game plays great, and the whole design style where you're given sandbox arenas designed to allow you to use your psi powers flexibly to get through works extremely well. Played it on PS2 because my multiple attempts at playing it on Xbox ended in a game breaking glitch and disaster. Highly recommended, though.

April 11 - Tomcat Alley (PC) - Ended up playing the higher res Windows version! It looked quite nice. Sadly, I'm seriously not a fan of old games like this, and especially FMV. I found the game to be overly unforgiving to mistakes (you play perfectly or get a game over. Fun!) and rather dull.

April 12 - Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2) - A wonderful mess. Kojima at kind of peak weirdness he would never really hit again, with something that was intentionally a fourth wall breaking jab at games, the player, and the repetitive nature of sequels in general. Plays very well, was a landmark title for the PS2 that helped get it out of that first year slump. And just well made all around, for what bits were finished.

April 15 - Michigan: Report From Hell (PS2) - I have absolutely NO idea what the goddamn this was. It's some sort of... found footage... survival... horror.. visual novel... disaster? The game just meanders from beginning to end, seeming to serve no real purpose before it just stops. Highly recommended as something you need to just experience ONCE in your life.

April 18 - Golden Sun: The Lost Age (GBA) - More of the same game as the first Golden Sun, understandably, being released so close together. It does improve on things a little bit, having a much much larger game world and a more non-linear mid game. It also improves on the dialogue a little, which I felt tend to drag on in the first game. Every character had to say something in a scene, but every character just said the same thing. The scenes feel less repetitive and full of much more personality this time around. Huge improvement.

April 19 - Diabolik: The Original Sin (PS2) - Based on an old Italian comic from the 60s about a criminal man who robs people because it makes his girlfriend horny (yes really). Originally portrayed as a straight up villain, but being slowly changed into an anti-hero across the years. The game is... alright. It definitely could have had a lot more character to it, and ends up just being kind of dry and lifeless in parts. The puzzles tend to range from either very easy to outright nonsense (one 'puzzle' requires you to walk to the end of a train, then walk back to the beginning of the train, then walk to the end of train again). It was kinda cool to play, being kind of a fan of Diabolik and all, but it wasn't a good game by any stretch.

April 23 - Robocop (Xbox) - The first Xbox game I've played since 50 Cent Bulletproof killed my old one back in November. This game is AWFUL. It misses the mark on every single aspect: It's a bad Robocop game, it's a bad FPS, it's a bad GAME. Titus's (Superman 64!) final ever game before bankruptcy, they really went out with a bang.

April 26 - Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) - Exactly the opposite as Robocop! It plays well, it's entertaining, the story is fun. I don't need to say much about _HALO_. My only gripes are the same gripes everyone else has: The copy paste nature of the levels is maddening and confusing (why not hand craft levels? Cmon guys) and the Library chapter is the worst level in an FPS ever.

April 30 - Bloody Roar 3 (PS2) - Good. Didn't get to put enough time into it to learn the metas or the moves or anything, but I like the character designs and the game definitely feels less stiff, and it's much faster then the first game was.

March 11 - Resident Evil Remake (PC) - Jill playthrough! Never been a huge fan of the original Resident Evil series. Have never played the original RE1, and never finished 3 or Code Veronica because I didn't enjoy them a whole lot. I did greatly enjoy playing through this one, though. Though I did feel like the game was bad about actually telling you where you needed to go in spots, and it felt like the game was just kind of an aimless exploration of the mansion. The difficulty was quite high, and I ended up finishing it on easy. I understand where they were coming from there though. The Remake was definetly made for fans of the original, and Capcom at the time was known for making rather difficult games. So the addition of the Crimson Heads and other difficulty increases did make sense. Though I felt towards the end of the game I had kinda 'gotten' it and it started feeling a lot easier to me. So much so that I ended the game with a gigantic healing and ammo surplus. If I ever do a Chris or Once Again... playthrough I'll play on normal or hard, for certain.

March 14 - Open Season (PS2) - A special game I streamed on my birthday! Movie license games are always considered to be bad, and this one doesn't really break that trend. The game is short, kinda janky, not particularly good looking, and lacks music for about 90% the game. BUT, it actually manages to play well, and does one thing that most movie license games never really manage to pull off: IT HAS VARIETY. The game manages to keep itself varied and surprising for almost the entire run, playing more like a fast paced run through the movie instead of something like a drawn out collectathon or an intentionally frustrating and laborious platformer. Couldn't really recommend it, but I did have kind of a big blast running through it.

March 17 - Final Fantasy IX (PC) - Played with the Moguri mod for sharper backgrounds and some fan remixed music. The game was certainly alright. It was charming, had adorable characters and a cute story. I mostly had issues with the game design. It leaned way heavy on story vs gameplay, which is just a personal dislike of mine. Plus it's very linear, with characters constantly being swapped out and in all the time. At one point a characters leaves the game for 6 hours and then comes back at level 9, when everyone else is level 20 and has learned tons of abilities. Probably why this took me 19 years to finish.

March 19 - Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (PC) - GREAT! Really really fun, much more forgiving then the first Splinter Cell (the only other one I had played), and it had a really cool story. The stealth felt good, with enemies not being TOO hyper aware of you all the time. Though this led to silly moments of me running back in forth around them so I could get to their back, while they pathed around in confusion. The only issue I had was that if an enemy was seated, it was almost impossible to get him into a grab.

March 22 - Wario Land 4 (GBA) - Really fun. Oddly ditched the 'no dying' style of 2 and 3 and went back to having a health bar, and thus became more platforming and collection based then more puzzled based like the previous entries. Levels were most built around collecting a number of things, though if you finished a level without collecting ALL of them, you wouldnt have to collect the things you had gotten, which is forgiving enough.

March 23 - Finny the Fish and the Seven Waters (PS2) - Also kinda fun. INCREDIBLY short, clocking in at a whole 2 and a half hours. The game plays kinda like a really simple and kid friendly version of Ecco, where each of the levels has one single objective to complete before moving on. Bright, colorful, with cute characters.

March 24 - Pikmin (Gamecube) - A classic. Not much to say about this one. Get pikmin, solve puzzles and get all your ship parts before you die on earth. Thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing, despite the last boss: Just no fun at all, to me.

March 30 - Phantom Dust (Xbox) - Didn't like this one so much. I appreciate card building games like this, and I think if I had been able to spend more time on my own working on decks (I always feel pressure to keep moving, when streaming) I would have gotten through it a bit easier. As it is, I didn't find much enjoyment in it. The game is free if you have a One or Windows 10 though, so give it a try.

Been a looong time since I last posted! So here's me for Feb

Feb 03 - Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger (DOS) - Played it with the (very awkward!) mouse and keyboard controls. Put it on easy out of frustration. The game is super good though. Stellar tech for the time period, great FMVs and very cool starring actors.

Feb 03 - Tales of Symphonia (Steam) - Went through the HD PS2/PS3 port Steam edition. A very lovely game, with a fun story and characters. Standard Tales gameplay with not much difficulty. Not much to say about it, sadly. Tales is Tales.

Feb 07 - Godfather: The Game (PS2) - An 'interesting' retelling of The Godfather that takes a lot of (apparently author advised) liberties. It was a lot of fun, and the game did its combat mechanics beautifully (despite you dying a bit too fast, even with maxed out health stat), but there were too many design decisions that ultimately weren't fun: A full hour to get payout from your businesses was a bit much. Mob wars were awful and the punishment for failing one (random businesses you own being closed for _7_ game days? THATS SEVEN REAL HOURS) was absurd.

Feb 09 - Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death (PS2) - Simply an 'ok' game. A very short 4 hour deal that tried to ape the Timesplitters style VERY hard (and didn't do that great of a job). Despite some obnoxiously mazey levels it was a rather easy play and I actually enjoyed it in the end. I wish it had managed to keep the humor that the beginning set up, with you going around arresting protestors and graffiti artists, but it just settled into a bland zombie shooter and went too serious.

Feb 11 - Frogger: The Great Quest (PS2) - Absolutely NOT. This game is atrocious. The jumping is floaty and you constantly hit the edges of platforms and slide off, the movement lacks animation and is jerky and too fast so you go flying around everywhere. Half the time doors won't open despite you mashing the circle button, making you think that they can't open. Avoid. Do not play.

Feb 16 - Warship Gunner 2 (PS2) - Take the insane over the top battles of Dynasty Warriors, slap Armored Core's customization on with a gigantic (1500 part!) research tree, and you've got something that's really enjoyable to waste time with. Make the most ridiculous aircraft carriers or battleships ever and fight against an ever increasing horde of enemy ships. By the end of the game the screen is just completely filled with missiles and shots.

Feb 18 - Overblood (PS1) - Riverhill Soft produced a horror/scifi themed adventure game for the PS1. And when I say adventure I do mean ADVENTURE. The game has about 5 combats total across the entire playthrough. I think this causes alot of people who have expectations (especially coming from Resident Evil) to say the game is boring, or bad, but I think the game succeeds at what it wants to do. It tells a scifi b-movie style adventure story. Knowing Riverhill Soft's history as a maker of murder mystery and visual novel style games, I think the game works fine in that context.

Feb 23 - Golden Sun (GBA) - Replay! It was a lot of fun checking this one out again. Last time I played it, it was around when it came out in the early 2000s. There's a lot about the game I like and dislike. Mainly, the battles and dungeons are the best part (the puzzles! So good. Remind me of Lufia 2. One of my favorite games). Unfortunately the story itself isn't all that great and the dialogue is very stiff and mechanical, but I think thats just a limit of the cartridge format. Did a 100% playthrough and did the bonus superdungeon.

Feb 26 - Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS2) - A remarkable improvement over the first game, tightening up the platforming controls by a ton and ditching the awful 1-hit You Die gameplay. I absolutely loved the mission style, where it was all working to set up the BIG heist at the end of mission. Very goal oriented, which kept it from feeling too repetitive or stale. My only complaint is the game felt a little bit long at (what took me) 17 and a half hours. Other then that, it was charming, a lot of fun with a few frustrating bits. But overall a big recommend.

Extremely good month, all around. Almost every game was a winner besides the obvious few.
Suzuki Bakuhatsu was an amazing find. It's a late PS1 game where you're a lady who has to defuse bombs. And the bombs are literally in EVERYTHING. The intro has you being delivered an orange, and you have to defuse it.

The weird licensed titles came about because people keep sending them to me, and it eventually came to a vote about which ones I'd play. They ended up being pretty enjoyable, with the stream. A lot of comedy. Golden Compass was a rough play though.

    August 30, 2016 - Oni (PS2)

Interesting month. People pushed me into finally finishing Ico, which was really excellent. I was a bit frustrated with Yorda, but the game was very pretty and the puzzles were nice.
50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is absolutely amazing and should be played by everyone, too. It's truly an experience and defines the 7th game gen pretty well.
And for everything else: I have to mention that people went and bought me MORE Humongous games, hence all the Putt-Putt's there. The light at the end of the tunnel is that there aren't any more for me to play. Kuon was an alright survival horror, but felt very unfinished. Shadow Tower Abyss is an amazing dungeon crawler. Oni and Maximo were both soul crushingly difficult, but I made it through. It actually felt EXTREMELY good to finish Maximo, as I've been taking fruitless cracks at that game for the better part of 10 years.

The Humongous games continued on the weekends. Did the entire Pajama Sam series and did the first Spy Fox. I'm out of games though, so until someone gifts me more, that will be it.

    -

Interesting month, all around. Was playing Champions of Norrath until my PS2 started shredding the disc and broke it, so I went on to other stuff for a while instead. The arcade games were all for a special 'retro week' theme I was participating in that day, and the Freddi Fish games are because people won't stop gifting me these games and I have to play them.

Played Sonic 3 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise, and the rest were all pretty random picks. Curse of Darkness was incredibly boring, sadly. The level design was even weaker then Lament of Innocence, if that's even possible.
Scaler was alright. Pretty average mascot platformer from around 2004. Short, but with incredibly uneven difficulty. I think it's supposed to be a kids game, but some parts are crushingly hard and exacting.

Was a superb month, all around. A little less PS2 played this month, with more focus put on slightly older stuff.
A major highlight was finishing Albion. An epic, 30 hour DOS RPG that I've always wanted to play through but have never had the patience to do. It was well worth finally sitting down to get through it.
The absolute worst would have to be Ruff Trigger. The game was so aggressively mediocre that I don't actually remember much about it. Just that I didn't have any fun.
Everything else was superb. Hearts of Stone was amazing. Ori was amazing. Dead Space is still amazing.

    In no particular order

    Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
    Final Fantasy 12
    Devil May Cry
    Kings Field: The Ancient City

Honorable mention would go to Psi-Ops, but I played that on the Xbox so I can't put it as a favorite PS2 game.

Overall it was an excellent month. Played a lot of great (and very strange) games. Went through the entire Echo Night franchise because I wanted to do some Fromsoftware titles before Dark Souls 3 released. High was definitely completing that entire franchise, while the low was me really struggling with Mega Man 8 and ragequitting it at one point. Got through it tho.
