With the 4K one, it's unlikely your 1080 will be able to consistently hit 60fps in games for smooth output, so you would be forced to lower quality settings or resolution etc to get decent gameplay, neither of which would be ideal (imo).
Conversely, the 1440p one is probably under utilizing the 1080 a tad at 75hz, though you do have the benefit of being able to take advantage of DSR, to render at a higher resolution and have it super sampled to 1440p.

If it were me to choose between the two, I would go for the 1440p, as I would prefer to have the smoother fps over the higher resolution with the detail settings cranked up etc.

As an addition, if you want the smoothest gameplay for your 1080, then a GSYNC monitor is a must, however, you are paying a GSYNC "tax" of about $150 just for the privilege so most are outside your budget.

Looking at the site you linked to, in your price range I would say this: https://m.1a.ee/arvutitehnika_burootarbed/personaalarvutid_monitorid_ups/led_monitorid/benq_gw2765ht is probably a better choice. IPS instead of TN, so the colours will look better, and you get better viewing angles. It's 60hz only but the differences between 60 and 75 is fairly minimal (i.e. nowhere near what 100+ will be in comparison to 60).

People do talk about the GotM as well as it is (and have done since it started), so voting for a game just because you want it to be discussed seems a bit pointless (also a discussion can be created about a game at any time :) - arranging multiple people to play around the same time is more difficult )

IMO the voting should really be an "I'm up for playing it" tally, whether replay or fresh, more players = more chance for on-going discussion being created. Not that it always works out that way, as people sometimes lack the time to post in the thread.

I saw Yakuza do a similar thing near the end, where WW was a certainty - I hadn't voted in the tie break, as I felt like I had a few too many games on the go, but as WW was out in the lead by 3 or 4 votes (think it was up to 9 votes at the time), I thought I would cave and get stuff set up so I could play it too. Next thing I saw Yakuza had 9 votes too. As I had already prepared to start playing WW, I thought I might as well put in the deciding vote.

I'm one of those few people who have had an interest in playing it, but never actually got around to it for various reasons. Will certainly get back to it after I finish off Peace Walker though :)

Yeah, probably a good idea, and maybe allow people to put their weight behind more than one game too (think Kerf suggested something like that in the podcast).

Yeah, I get the feeling that some people vote for a game they want others to play, or vote multiple times for the game because they want the game to have the GotM status. Given how small the community is I don't think either of those votes are helpful to the GotM getting a decent discussion.

I guess if people only voted on the game that they are willing to play that month it would improve things, however, given the anonymity of the vote it probably will still suffer from issues.

Putting this on ice for now. It's not really in the spirit of the book club if only one person is seemingly playing it.

Nintendo should be the ones to apologise for the ambiguity 😉

Apparently Perfect Chronology has another timeline, but likewise, not sure if's worth a repurchase if you already have the DS one.

"New 3DS" as in need to break the seal on the box, or the "New 3DS" 😉

Think the latter only has a few specific titles that only it can run, along with I believe it opens up SNES and GBA virtual console titles (I only own the "New" one so don't remember where the line is drawn).

If you never played Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, then it's probably worth playing on the 3DS, though I believe it loses a bit of it's awe with the smaller screen.
Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology is also probably worth a look - a remasted DS title, that is also a decent time travel based jRPG. I only played the DS one, but is definitely one of my favourites.

Most of the other games that I would recommend are probably obvious first party titles. However the 3DS is a decent Virtual Console host for playing 8 and 16 bit titles :)

Started playing the HD version (though having owned the original since about 2006 but never really played it past the Forsaken Fortress! - as far as I remember anyway, I played it briefly before Twilight Princess was released).

Up to Windfall Island now, so hopefully made more progress so far than I did on the original :)

Just two for me this month.
InFAMOUS 2
Super Mario 3D World

Can't really give a best/worst, as I felt both bettered their predecessors. - Not sure why I didn't particularly enjoy 3D Land, so might have to revisit that at some point, as I played all the levels I could in 3D world.

As I bought MGS5 Definitive edition, I thought I should start on Peace Walker - so have done, though haven't had much more time to play it.

I also discovered Pictlogica: Final Fantasy by accident. It's only in Japanese, which for the most part doesn't matter for me as it's basically a Picross game, and I've been ignoring most of the "battle" elements.

It's probably for the best, gamecube composite would look really terrible on a 4K screen.
Your best bet (if you want to play the original) is either to get a SCART to HDMI upscaler, or pick up a 2nd hard Wii and get the component cables for that (which has 5 jacks).
Though to be fair, even with component, the cell shaded graphics don't scale all that well, which is where WWHD comes in, and looks great on HD sets.

Anyway, thanks for the offer of giving away your origin account.

My knee-jerk reaction to "your favourite game" question, is always Final Fantasy 7. It's a game that has had a huge impact on my life (even though I wouldn't know at the time of playing). As it introduced me to Final Fantasy and jRPGs in general and without that I most likely wouldn't have met my wife. It's also the only long game that I've completed multiple times, and enjoyed each time I have.

Thirded, and I think one of the key aspects of Zelda's not being RPGs stem from the boss battles; in most (if not all?) Zelda games the bosses are more like puzzles, with figuring out how to damage the boss, if you use the wrong thing (or in the wrong order) then the boss takes no damage.
In RPGs you can generally use anything at your disposal to damage the boss (barring certain resistances or gimmick bosses).

As for me, if I had to picked one I would say jRPGs as it was those that I got hooked on from my teens and it was thanks to them that I met my wife.

I generally classify western RPGs as aRPGs (action RPGs), which also helps get around the soulsbourne classification issue. 🙂

Mine is somewhere in between. Having a strict 1 at a time is a bit too restrictive, but I don't want to have loads of games on the go either - as I'll never get through them.

Generally I try to stick to 1 portable and one "big screen" (console or PC) game at a time. Though this has some leeway for things like co-op or multiplayer games, and potentially games that I want to take a break from and come back to, to see if I enjoy them more.

Back in 2012, I started using trakt.tv to log what I was watching on TV, and what I wanted to watch, and essentially see how long I had left. It helped me be a bit more methodical in getting through TV shows that I had started watching, but didn't get around to finishing.

In 2013, I wanted to get back into gaming, and had similar issues that I had started loads of games but didn't finish them, so looked for something similar to trakt but for games, obviously I found the right site for my needs 😊

Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition PC 10th
    Q.U.B.E.: Director's Cut, PC 10th
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call Nintendo, 3DS 10th
    Demon's Souls, PlayStation 3 7th

Borderlands 2 was started sometime last year, was only able to play it with one of my friends on some weekends.
Though best probably goes to Demon's Souls, it managed to change my perspective quite a bit on the games I play, and it introduced me to another series of games to play.

Being a Brit, I have to naturally agree with Ric on the spelling and pronunciation of things. Though to be fair we do have some real oddities in differences between how things are said and spelt (sorry, spelled!). e.g. a place name that I used to live about 10 miles from was called Trottiscliffe, how do you pronounce it? Trosley / Trozli. Riiiight! :)

IMO, The Last Story is a decent RPG, but I felt it was left down by the frame rate (given Mistwalker were previously developing for the more powerful 360, it was probably no surprise), some people don't seem to notice it but being used to mostly 60fps games on PC, dropping below 30fps is blatantly (and painfully) obvious.

With Spirit Tracks, I never really thought about that you couldn't really explore the overworld, but I guess I was too busy firing the cannon at things and blowing the horn to care at the time!

For Shadow of the Colossus, the PS2 version was pushing the hardware to the limit at the time, so often you will get major dips in frame rate. PS3 gets you a near-locked 30fps at all times of almost the same game - widescreen, better quality assets - but of the same source, etc.

PS4 is a ground up remake, so the game looks very different, and is generally considered the best way to play the game (from what I've heard, I haven't got a PS4 either).

I played the PS3 version, and rated it down for the controls and camera, which apparently are better (but not perfect) in the PS4 version.
