Favorite RPG?

Soul Blazer was a great game. Only similar titles that come to mind are ActRaiser (the first one--for its town building), and Alcahest (there's a fan-translation--mainly for the similarity in combat) both on SNES.

So, I'm currently playing RPGs in chronological order, and up to mid-1993. Here's my top 10:
Rings of Power (Genesis) -- Overall not a great game, but this style of game on console was probably doomed to failure. I loved it more for what it tried to reach for rather than what it achieved.
Dragon Warrior III (NES) -- My favorite classic Dragon Warrior.
Magician (NES) -- More action than RPG, this is such a unique experience that it stands out in my mind as one of my most cherished games.
Ys Book I & II (TG-CD) -- The music in this game is awesome. The game shows its age, even in this port, but it's a quick bump attack to the end. Some required grinding.
Ultima (IV): Quest of the Avatar (NES) -- Pony Canyon took what they learned with Exodus, and transformed a classic PC game into a classic NES title. It's different enough from the PC that I have a hard time suggesting one is a better experience over the other.
Might & Magic: Book 1 (NES) -- Normally a PC port is overall inferior on console, but M&M1 was such an early title that the graphical and musical improvements enhance the experience to
such a degree that this is by far the definitive version to play.
Phantasy Star (SMS) -- I haven't played IV, but the scope and depth of this game surprised me, and I believe it's the best of the first three.
Soul Blazer (SNES) -- This game is such a joy to play. As an action-RPG it's a bit light on character involvement, but still highly recommended.
Super Hydlide (Genesis) -- Another game that's a bit rough around the edges, this one ranks so high probably more due to how surprisingly fun it was compared to the first game on the NES.
Starflight (Genesis) -- Polished from a DOS port, the combat is a bit more streamlined. This game focuses on exploration into a mysterious universe populated with distinctly alien lifeforms, and a pending doom causing stars to go supernova. Light on RPG elements, but size of the universe will keep you going for just one more star system.
I also grew up playing RPGs, so here's a list in no particular order of some of my childhood favorites:
Lufia 2 (SNES) -- Don't worry about playing the first game, this series is linked by the finest of threads.
Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
Dragon View (SNES)
Ogre Battle (SNES) -- The PS1 remake is basically the same game with updated graphics and a save feature inside the scenarios (SNES only allows saving on the map).
King's Field 1 & 2 (PS1) [US] -- First person-RPGs from the later developers of the Souls series.
Dragon Force (Saturn) -- This is a Sim-RPG where the generals of 100 man armies level up, but the units themselves don't. There's some Rot3K sim style mechanics as well.
Suikoden (PS1)
Wild ARMs (PS1)
Vandal Hearts (PS1)
Breath of Fire III (PS1) -- The first two games in the series (on SNES) have some issues that this one resolves completely. I've heard the fourth does some weird things, and the fifth goes off the rails, so this is probably the peak.
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (PS1) -- The game is pretty easily, but the musical score is what really sells it for me.
Legend of Mana (PS1) -- Probably the best SaGa game Square put out.
Valkyrie Profile (PS1) -- Such a beautifully packaged game, and a ton of replay value. Just explore and see what you can find.
Rings of Power (Genesis) -- Overall not a great game, but this style of game on console was probably doomed to failure. I loved it more for what it tried to reach for rather than what it achieved.

Even more game confusion -- cover art

To add to the confusion. The cover art for this game is actually the cover for the 1988 space based computer game. Here's a good one to replace it with https://www.hardcoregaming101.net/exile/exile-tg16.jpg

Thanks. One more bit of confusion to resolve, but I'll make a separate thread in the other game entry.
It also doesn't help that technically both games were originally released in 1988. :D

The completion for this title listed for TurboGrafx-CD and Genesis belong in this game: https://hl2b.com/game.php?id=3265
I tried to report it using the link here: https://hl2b.com/game.php?id=19146&s=completions but the report button seems broken.

Finished Rings of Power. Quite a long ending sequence, and there's no single "The End" screen.

In between games, but going to start playing Rings of Power tomorrow. Hope to fill in a time estimate when I'm done, although I seem to be the only one who has it backlogged. :D

I remember seeking this game out with my brother as kid. We called over 10 different locations before we found a copy for the SNES. Good times.

Inherited PS2 games... which are the best?

All of them suck, please dispose of them quickly to me. ;)
Seriously though, many of those titles are ones I'm looking to getting eventually.
The ones I've played and enjoyed:
.hack
Dark Cloud
Ico
I-Ninja
Odin Sphere
Okami (although a little long)
Radiata Stories
Shadow of the Colossus
Shinobi
Many more in that list are games I've heard are good, but have no experience with. With such great RPG titles, I'm surprised to see some obvious holes like Star Ocean: 'Til the End of Time. I hope you received them under good terms, it's quite a collection. Have fun with them, and remember us if you'd like them to go to a good home once you're done.

Spore (Alpha version)... I felt left out from random guessing. Is it antibad?

13 YrsF✓#
I concur

Looks like an arcade game. I would almost guess SNES, but it's just too vibrant and reminds me too much of Metal Slug. I'm no good at identifying arcade games though. I'm guessing the B's are the main character's name, and could probably pick it out from a list of arcade titles that start with B, but I'll let someone more familiar with this style of game take a guess.

Looks like DOS CGA graphics to me.

Slow but steady progress through my list, I'm starting up Little Ninja Brothers soon.

Beat'em ups usually have static screens you're locked into until you beat up all the enemies. Hack 'n slash was not originally a genre (has it become one?), but a phrase that described heavy emphasis on combat in pen and paper RPGs with little plot. I consider games like God of War and Devil May Cry as an evolution on beat'em ups; they seem like little more than a 3D perspective for the genre. I haven't played many of them though, so I could be wrong.

Generic FPS, or something more?

Those characters almost look like the same from Tokobot. I'll also guess Steambot Chronicles. If not those, then I have no idea.

13 YrsF✓#
Deathtrap Dungeon?
Edit: Another guess... O.D.T: Escape ... Or Die Trying.. I think that one had a female lead and really bad graphics.

I'd like some love... maybe I should donate. If I get a bonus this year, then maybe. Rumor has it they're going to cut them heavily though.
