Beat FEZ!!

I spent about 7.5 hours getting ~130% completion. There are things other than the normal cubes that can count toward opening the doors, so I actually ended up missing one of the 32 gold cubes in the end even with over 100% completion. I think I had enough to beat it probably an hour or two before that, but I wasn't really keeping track.

Oh sweet, thanks! So I guess the anti-cubes count towards your cube total? That's good, I'm not real big on collecting things 100%.

I just finished Fez a couple days ago. I'm still debating whether I want to go back and find more stuff or I'm done with it. I already spent some extra time doing optional things before I got around to entering the final area, so I may have had enough at this point. Good game either way.

Since then, I've been playing Ballpoint Universe, which is surprisingly fun. I'd heard that it was artistically great but the gameplay was kind of underwhelming, but I actually ended up liking it. The little platforming sections where the NPCs are who tell the story between the real levels where the shmup action takes place are complete balls, and I could've done without the crappy controls and collision detection there, but the game itself is a good time. I was struck by inspiration at the beginning of the game when I saw that it had melee weapons, and I decided to change it from a shoot 'em up to a stab 'em up and see if it's possible to play the game without any guns. I ended up going a step further and doing story mode with a 100% passive build, because melee weapons trigger automatically when you're close enough to enemies, so I ran through the entire game with two melee weapons, no guns, never pushed the attack button or the button to trigger the "ultimate" attacks, and only ever used the left stick to move around to dodge/get close enough to stab things in the face. This morning I finished getting all the achievements for perfect runs on all the story mode levels with that setup, so yeah, shooting is overrated in shmups. So is pushing buttons. Heh.

How long did it take you to beat the game? I'm somewhat confused on what the requirements are. I know that I have 32 spots for cubes, and the last door requires 32 cubes, correct? Does that mean I have to find every single cube and cube bit in the game or are there more than 32 cubes to find in the game?

I know I'm late to the game but I'm reading the Hunger Games trilogy. Just finished the first book and now I'm on Catching Fire. I already saw the movie so the book is spoiled for me, but I hope I can finish the 3rd book before the movie comes out.

Really on the fence about what I'm getting next. I'm trying to make a conscious effort this year to not buy every game that catches my attention. So far I've done well. I've beaten 2 games so far and only bought 1. Hopefully I can keep that pace and whittle away my backlog. The next games I'm looking forward to are DK: Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8. Those will probably be my next two purchases and hopefully nothing else pops up!

Making decent progress on Batman every once in a while, kinda on the back burner. Trying to beat FEZ, might make a concentrated effort to do that tonight. Pokemon X is something I play while I watch or show or in bed as I go to sleep. I've been working on getting the Pokedex as complete as possible before the Pokemon Bank is released.

Multiplayer:
Just Cause 2

Just realized the multiplayer mod is live and available on Steam so I grabbed it and got another friend to get it as well.

Follow-up question:

How do you guys keep up with free games as they come out? Soul Sacrifice was released as a free game for November earlier today/yesterday. I was kind of expecting it to be a "first of the month" kind of thing, but it seems like it's all over the place.

Are you asking when the games are released? In the US it's every Tuesday.

I've been trying to do a better job of managing my backlog this year but PS+ just kills me.

Hoping to get Super Mario 3D World and Arkham Origins for Christmas. Had Link Between Worlds on my list as well but my wife gave it to me as an early gift :)

Bioshock

Oh man, the bad ending?
My friend hated this game for a while because he got the bad ending. I got the good ending and it instantly propelled Bioshock into my top 10 games.

Bastion, but that's just to tide me over until I go pick up WW HD after work today >:)

Beat Pikmin 3 at the beginning of this week :)

It sounds interesting but they will have to be smart about their pricing. If they price it too high this is not going to draw in the console crowd. Besides, it seems that the console crowd gets drawn in to PC gaming when they go off to college and play games on their laptops. I know quite a few kids that were strictly console in their highschool years, but now that they're in college and have brand new laptops, they've branched out to PC gaming.

I base it on whatever I am in the mood for. I try to avoid playing games from the same genre back to back in order to avoid burnout. I try to play a mix of PC and console games so that if my wife is using the TV I can hop on to the computer and make some progress on my backlog.
