Decided to make one of these blog thingies for myself. Probably going to be mostly using it for posting screenshots from games I'm playing as I'm not the best at writing about why I like or don't like things. But enough of that.

Finished Silent Hill: Shattered Memories yesterday and you should all play it, it's good actually. The chase sequences can be a bit annoying and frustrating, but other than that it's really quite good. Don't have any screenshots as I don't have any easy way to record from the Wii and taking photos of the TV with my phone doesn't get particularly good results. Also play Silent Hill 4 it's on GOG now (don't use the 60 fps patch though, it causes a crash near the end and makes the game impossible to beat). Haven't finished this one myself, but really like some of the things it does.

Still going through Mass Effect: Andromeda, and so far I don't think it's anywhere near as dreadful as a lot of people say it is. And Wasteland 3, Nier Automata and Lost Odyssey have kinda fallen on the back burner for now. Probably not the best idea to be playing a bunch of long games at the same time.

Welcome to the blog-o-sphere! I played Shattered Memories earlier this year with my partner and we absolutely loved it! That was actually my introduction to the Silent Hill franchise. I liked that the game tries to customize some of its elements depending on your fears. I have a strong feeling Until Dawn was heavily inspired by this title. It's a great concept that I wish more games would try to implement. We're actually playing Silent Hill 2 now and enjoying it quite a bit.

Silent Hill 2 is great, but so was that whole console generation in terms of horror games. It was the golden age of all sorts of interesting horror games, some more succesful than others, and I do feel we don't really get as much variety like that these days. Like there are some interesting horror things being made by indie devs, but bigger studios aren't really making anything as interesting these days.

Finished The Red Strings Club since it's really short and I could easily fit it in between everything else

It's pretty interesting, not really a fan of the ending. Looks great though and the bartending gameplay is an interesting idea.

Also still playing Mass Effect: Andromeda. Here's a screenshot of what my Ryder looks like

Finished Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Is there any point in opening the doors slower to peek into the room? Because from what I've seen, it's always quite obvious whenever a stressful chase-sequence is about to ensue. The idle-walking from one section to the next was usually just that.

I can't find the Andromeda meme I wanted to share, but here's another one I forgot I made instead (as usual, right-click image to view):

Nope. It's just there for the sake of being there. Unless you're looking for the collectibles and stuff then yes you are just walking from place to place.

Got the Humble Thrills & Chills Bundle, to play the CO-OP titles there (Pacify, DESOLATE and The Blackout Club) with my cousin. We just finished the 2 existing missions for Pacify "Dolls" and "Farm". The Dolls mission is pretty spooky, but the Farm mission is more tedious than anything, the monster's not as scary and the most effective way to complete your objectives is to just run around in a circle. I hope the third mission, that's supposed to release on Halloween, is better.

Also played some games from the Spooktober 2020 Visual Novel Jam . Started out with some of the shorter ones.

My recent completions:

Last Meal at Cafe Mori
User Image
A pretty good little visual novel from the Spooktober 2020 Visual Novel Jam.

DARQ
User Image
This one looks great, love the style and atmosphere. The puzzles are pretty simple for the most part, which I personally don't mind because I'm not really all that into puzzle games. Also doesn't really have a story as such it's mostly about the athmosphere and mood.

Distraint 2
User Image
This one's got a really cliche horror game story and it's not at all subtle about it's themes. Also doesn't have any particularly tricky puzzles or anything. Personally I'm not all that fond of the art style particularly when it comes to the women characters they just have really awkward faces. Also the ending is just really silly and doesn't really work I feel.

It's nowhere near as terrible as you all like to act it is. I'd even go so far as to say that I liked it. Also a really controversial opinion but Vetra > Garrus.

That's...pretty condescending. I don't act like it's terrible, I actually think it's terrible in almost every way. I don't even like the combat or graphics, like some people who disliked the game did. I know people who liked it, and that's fine, but you don't have to be That Guy.

I think I liked Vetra and Garrus roughly equal. I waited so long for her to figure her stuff out, but by the time she told me she was ready for a relationship, I'd moved on to the companions who actually gave me the time of day. Sorry, Vetra, you snooze you lose :/

It's not directed at you specifically and I do like to be condescending when talking about gamers it feels good to me. Vetra's more attractive, though I do really like Garrus.

I mean...at least you're honest about it.

Vetra is definitely one of the more attractive NPCs in this game, and more so than Garrus in the first 3. IMO the aliens looked a lot better than the humans (which look even worse than in DAI). God, I really wish this game was good so I could do another run and romance Vetra, but sadly the romance is only good part of this hundred-hour slog :(

No, wait, there was the couple hours on the bandit planet where I had genuine fun. Besides that it's trash.

Our Life: Beginnings & Always released yesterday so I also started playing that, haven't finished it yet because there's still one DLC to come for it. It's really good and definetly worth checking out if you like visual novels.

The pixel art gore is quite well done, and honestly the main thing the game has going for it. The gameplay and weapon selection are fairly standard, the enemies are not particularly interesting and being so low resolution they are all just a small blob of brown pixels. So I can't say I found it particularly inreresting.

HAHAHAHAHA I have returned! DESPAIR!!!! Also since it's pride month, if you're straight and reading this you owe me 5 bucks.

Anyways I'm here to tell you all to play Stars Die. It's real good and real weird. Just look at it. I'm serious, play it, it's good. I won't tell you anything more because spoilers and whatever, not that it'd make much sense to any of you anyways, but still.

Also I've played a bunch of other stuff since last time, so here's a couple more recommendations.

Played a bunch more games, here are a couple of the more interesting ones.

Cthulhu Mythos RPG: The Sleeping Girl of the Miasma Sea

A Sweet Home(1989) inspired horror RPG. Pretty interesting, though the writing is a bit hit and miss.

Football Game

A short point and click, with really quite good art and sound direction.

If you're at all familiar with Puppet Combo's work you pretty much already know what to expect. This one being inspired by Italian zombie movies.

Finished Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition(Xbox One) today. It's an absolutely gorgeous game and the music is equally as great. When I first heard about the game I didn't realize it was a metroidvania, for some reason I thought it was more of a puzzle platformer, which I suppose it also kind of is a bit. Playing the game felt really good, had no issues with controls or anything, controls are responsive and precise and I didn't run into any performance issues either. The platforming can get fairly tricky though, but I am also not particularly good at platformers.

Got myself a used PS4 Pro recently, cause I've got nothing better to do with my money and the new consoles are still ridiculously expensive, I'm not paying 850€ for a PS5. The only one you can get at around MSRP is the Series S, but that's a garbo all digital console with nonexistent storage so that's a big no from me. Also got myself Bloodborne Game of the Year Edition and Nioh 2. Already had Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition from back when they were giving that away (Had a PSN account from back when I tried PS Now and so why not claim it). The only small problem with the console is that it's the CUH-7016B model which is the loudest one, though it's not quite as bad as you might assume from all the horror stories online. Or well it was exactly that bad before I cleaned it, I had naively assumed the previous owner would have cleaned it before selling it. Though I also don't have like the newest games like God of War or Marvel Spider-Man which are the ones that apparently make the most noise.

But yeah as to the games Bloodborne is amazing. I've only beaten the first 2 bosses right now, so not all that far, but I'm having a great time. The Cleric Beast took me 3 tries to beat and Father Gascoigne took me 2 tries to beat, so I'm doing pretty good so far I think.

As for Nioh 2 that's a real hard game, I'm absolutely terrible at it, but it's interesting enough that I'm definitely going to continue. And Horizon Zero Dawn is real pretty, don't really have much of an opinion besides that just yet as I'm not all that far into it.

Funnily enough, I also just bought a used PS4 Pro! All the good PS5 games also seem to be coming out on PS4, and there’s 7 years of games to catch up on, so I think it was a good purchase.

So far I’m really liking Horizon Zero Dawn. Breath of the Wild is one of my favorite games of all time, and I don’t know if Horizon will replace it, but it’s scratching that open-world itch for sure. I’ll be interested in hearing your thoughts on it in the future.

Ended up getting God of War (2018) as well. And yeah the PS4 does get quite loud with that one, it's definitely the loudest console I've ever owned. It does ramp up a lot every so often, but that's only temporary and for the most part it's fine. I'm not gonna go looking for a different model PS4 Pro because of this, I'll just make do until you can actually buy PS5s at or even near MSRP.

The game itself is quite good, I'm not quite as wowed by it as a lot of other people, but I do like it. There's some real good creature design in the game (the big turtle and Jörmungandr look great) and it's honestly a real shame that most enemies are rather boring looking. Combat's nothing amazing, but it's fine and the skills you unlock do add a bit to it. Also Kratos is a massive jerk, and I'm guessing that he's going to be less of an ass by the end of the game, what I've seen so far seems to suggest that that's his character arc in this one. Christopher Judge's performance though is amazing, he's a great fit for Kratos. And the other performances are also really good.
User Image
User Image

Also finished Kenji Eno's D and it's definitely a fascinating piece of video game history. Obviously graphics technology has evolved massively since then, but honestly that's nowhere near the biggest obstacle to enjoying this game nowadays. That would be the controls and gameplay, what little of it there is, simply moving around can be frustrating and annoying because there are quite a number of places in the game where you can't just turn right or left and just look at the thing next to you, instead you have to back away from whatever object you're looking at and then back up to the part of the room where you can turn and then move from there to the item you were literally right next to, it gets annoying. But I would still recommend trying it if you're at all interested in the early days of games like this. I would also love for Enemy Zero to get a re-release on Steam and GOG like this one.

Haven't updated in quite a while so here's all the stuff I've finished since my last post.

Fearless Fantasy - PC - July 24, 2021

It's a fine enough little RPG, personally though I didn't find the writing all that funny.

Super Bit Blaster XL - PC - July 27, 2021
User Image
Got this one for free because I had the original Bit Blaster XL. This one is easier the play thanks to the updated controls, but other than that it's basically more of the same.

God of War - PlayStation 4 - July 29, 2021
User Image
Bit disappointed by the ending being just setup for the next game, but other than that the game's pretty good. Still not as wowed by it as a lot of other people were.

Shadow the Hedgehog - Xbox - Aug 04, 2021
User Image
I kinda like this one in a weird way. The game's absolutely terrible, hated the last few levels, but still weirdly compelling to me. Guess I have a soft spot for edgy garbage.

TimeSplitters: Future Perfect - Xbox - Aug 05, 2021
User Image
It's TimeSplitters and it has an actual proper story.

Planetary Annihilation: Titans - PC - Aug 06, 2021
User Image
It's a good strategy game, gets a bit fiddly managing multiple planets at once in a system.

The House of the Dead 2 - Wii - Aug 07, 2021
User Image
The Wii version is not the best way to play, but it is probably the easiest one nowadays. Do wish I had an actual setup for light gun games though.

The House of the Dead III - Wii - Aug 07, 2021
User Image
Same as above.

Plead with the Mountain God - PC - Aug 15, 2021
User Image
A dark fantasy platformer made for last years Haunted PS1 Summer Of Screams jam. The developer is working on an expanded sequel that's also coming to Steam

The Tiny Bang Story - PC - Aug 15, 2021
User Image
Kinda boring honestly, was listening to podcasts while playing this one.

Fe - Xbox One - Aug 23, 2021
User Image
A very pretty looking puzzle platformer. Fairly basic in terms of gameplay.

Dino Crisis 2 - PlayStation(Emulated) - Sep 05, 2021
User Image
The better of the 2 Dino Crisis games for the PlayStation. Doesn't even try to be survival horror anymore, which some people did find disappointing. Should maybe go back to the first one and try to actually finish it.

TimeSplitters 2 - PlayStation 2 - Sep 08, 2021
User Image
Finished this one as well finally. The story mode's alright nothing special, but the split screen multiplayer, that's the real appeal of this game. And I wish I had a PS2 multitap and more people to play it with.

Fe and Dino Crisis 2 screenshots are my own, the rest I got online.
