jaja, yo soy de la península, asique aunque sea tengo esa excusa para no haber oído hablar de el ;)
It's nice to see indie devs putting more of a spotlight on their local social movements/culture/history. Spain in general is not usually featured in games (besides the usual "full map of Europe" kind of games), and I don't think I've ever played a game set in Canarias. Much less a game set during the NATO referendum

My nominations are:
Crow Crime: A Murder Mystery: This seems to be a nice small narrative mystery game
Wandows 95: "A fake OS narrative game about fixing the internet on your mom's computer."
EDIT: My third nomination:
La Maleta: A short point & click game about the social movements within the Canary Islands in the 1980s, while the NATO referendum was underway. Based on a poem with the same title by author Pedro Lezcano.

I'm all-in for the advent calendar presentation. You can even keep the winner secret and reveal them piece by piece using an advent calendar template.
I'm also of the mind that it could be a separate event from GotM, since they are both very different. Given that not that many people know about obscure Itch games, you could even take suggestions from the members of the community that are into them, and curate a 12 game list (25 for the full advent calendar I agree would be a bit overkill)
Edit: By "not that many people know about them" I mean that in a regular month you'll know if you wanna play Bioshock or not. And maybe you'll have to look into one or two nominations (don't know the games). But with free Itch games most people would probably have to look into every nomination except for their own.

This month marks the 1 year anniversary since I started my Doom mod journey (or at least since I *really* got into them). I've still got lots of them that I want to play, so hopefully I'll keep going and covering more mods.
The Darkest Hour
The Darkest Hour is a total conversion mod set in the Star Wars universe. It even features a story with cutscenes, though it's nothing mind boggling. One of the most interesting aspects is that to beat the levels certain mission objectives are necessary, it's not only about getting to the exit door. Some level might be about setting up some charges to blow up a facility, or stealing some plans... For the most part it is a good idea, but one of the issues with it is that there is no proper way to check the objectives or what you've already completed. So it is easy to get lost.
Another issue I found was that there wasn't nearly enough ammo to got around. Even trying to avoid enemies and being mindful of not wasting shots, in certain levels I found myself with literally no ammo for any of the guns.
Overall, it's a mod that I would recommend, though it is missing lots of polish.
Dawn: A Prelude
Dawn: A Prelude is a prequel mod to the previous one I covered. For the most part keeps the gameplay similar, but introduces some new enemies. It also keeps trying to change the formula for the levels, for example in one of them you'll infiltrate an Imperial station and you'll do some tasks there while undercover.
My feelings are mostly the same as with the main mod, though I've found that the ammo issue I had was for the most part gone in this installment.

Sadly I haven't had too much time to game this month, so I don't think I'll be anywhere close to finishing Alien Isolation by the end of the month.
I've played the start of the game using MotherVR, the VR mod for the game. And, while it's a very cool experience, I don't think I wanna play the whole 18h of the game that way. The main reason being that the controls are kinda clunky, and they tend to get in the way. Not game breaking, but I can see it dampening my enjoyment of the game in the long run. So from now own I'll be using the usual keyboard and mouse controls.

This couple mods are a doozy, so strap on
Sean Connery Gets a Wrench Stuck Up His Anal Hole: the Movie, the Game
This is a shitpost mod, the only reason I've played it is so that no one else has to. Terrible gameplay, bad "jokes" (most are just edgy for the sake of being edgy)... The only saving grace is that the eclectic visuals are kinda fun, but even those are awful by any standards. It's super short, but at no point I would classify it as enjoyable.
John Goodman's X-Decathlon
Now this is a redemption arc. The creator of the previous mod, after releasing that disaster got back into actually learning how to do Doom mods; he got good at it and used his skills to create a proper shitpost mod. One that is actually fun to play. One that is pure chaos, but has method to the madness. People say that first you must learn the rules, so you know *how* to break them; and this totally proves the point.
It's funny to think that so much effort must have gone into creating something that must look awful but not actually play awful. Truly in the line between genius and madness.

Today's post is not actually a mod for DOOM, not even a game running in GZDoom. But it's my thread and I can do what I want, sue me.
Doomed Love
Doomed Love is a wholesome Visual Novel set in asadly non-canon version of the DOOM universe. It is a pretty short ride, it took me around 15 minutes for the first run, and 30 minutes for all endings. It is a very chill story about self-acceptance, love and friendship. I was expecting it to be a throwaway parody, but the writing is actually fairly good. It does manage the comedic tone without sacrificing the serious themes that the game is about. It's nothing mind-blowing, but it is a nice reminder to take care of ourselves and of those important to us.
The player takes control of a Zombieman, just before thespring Icon of Sin Festival. From then on the player can either decide to date one of the monsters (Cacodemon, Revenant, Mancubus or Pinky Demon) or to attend the festival as a group of friends.
One comparison that I like a lot is referring to this game as the "Reverse Doki Doki Literature Club". Where DDLC uses "innocent" visuals to hide a dark story, this game takes the ultra-violent universe of DOOM and transforms it into an all-wholesome experience.
It's free at https://davidbcooper.itch.io/doomed-love

The winners this month are:
Bioshock 2
Alien Isolation
Little Nightmares

We also got the results for the poll on games releasing the same month being nominated. And it seems there is overwhelming support in favor of allowing them.

I've also created the other poll to vote on the (possible) rule changes. Per suggestion it has 3 possible answers: "No", "Yes" and "Yes, but only for the Creature Triple Feature".

Today's game is the first commercial release in this thread: the FPS/metroidvania Vomitoreum
Vomitoreum
This game was a wild ride. It's a standalone game running on the GZDoom engine, and as I said it's a FPS/Metroidvania hybrid. The metroidvania aspects are a bit less fleshed out and simple, but for the most part the shooting carries the game. But still, it does feature the "find new ability"->"rush to all the previously unavailable areas" gameplay that most fans of the genre are addicted to. Plus, there are not that many games mixing both genres, Metroid Prime being the only big titles that I can think of.
It's by the same dude that did Shrine 1 & 2 and Lycanthorn 1 & 2, so you know the art part of the game will be stellar. And for sure it is the case here, with very creepy and twisted designs for both the monsters and the environment. Sadly I can't post lots of the more interesting designs, since they are pretty explicit. Though be sure that every couple minutes there is something that makes you go

Gross in the best of ways, the author does have a way for the twisted and macabre.
The music is great too, since it's the same composer as in the previous works
The main downside it's that the game is not free, but can be gotten for 9,99$ (base price, no discount) both on Itch.io and on Steam. I'm happy to report that both versions are DRM free, but if the price looks a bit too steep for a 3~4 hour experience, I'm sure it will be much cheaper to get on a sale.

There has been some interesting discussion around games that release during the month. It is true that there is no rule regarding these games, and I'm of the opinion that precedence is worthless. So here is my proposal:
Metroid Dread will be included in the poll, but I'll also post a second poll with the simple yes/no question "Should games that release during the month be allowed for GotM?"
-If the answer is no, then we'll add that to the rules and if Metroid Dread has won a spot, it will go to the next most voted game.
-If the answer is yes, then we'll have a month to decide which will be the cutout (only if it releases the first week, only if it releases in the first X days...). And Metroid Dread will be able to be one of the three games this month.
Suggestions are welcome
edit: poll will go up the 27th, btw

I'm back with another 2 in 1
I played both mods at the same time, but both can be played independently. So I'll have the screenshots together, but the descriptions/reviews separate.
Going Down + La Tailor Girl
Going Down
Going Down is an excellent campaign mod for Doom, with great level design and even better atmosphere. TL;DR: it's a story about Doomguy going down a building eradicating the monsters in each floor, but the building looked like 10 stories high and we are like 17 floors down and out the windows the world seems funky and it's getting weirder and weirder the deeper we go. Also, Doomguy doesn't call his mom enough :(
In the gameplay department, there was lots to love. Levels were varied and interesting, with a couple interesting gimmicks (for example one level hid one of the puzzle pieces to complete the level in the map screen). The encounters are grander than in the vanilla game, but without going completely overboard, there are always tools enough to deal with every situation.
Overall, an excellent playthrough that I would recommend to anyone looking for more OG Doom gameplay, or to mix it up with a gameplay mod.
La Tailor Girl
Now, this was a weird mod. This might be the first time so far that a "lewd" mod (it's not explicit at any moment, nor does it include any sex. Just skimpy outfits) was so fleshed out in its mechanics. You play as one of the Tailor girls, and instead of having armor, you wear different outfits. While not wearing anything (either because you've discarded it, or because the enemies have hit you too much) you'll not only be very vulnerable, but your weapons will be very ineffective too. And armor is not the only thing that the costumes provide, they also give you different habilities and change the weapons around. For example the ninja outfit will change your melee weapon into a throwing star, the bunny costume will change hitscan weapons into carrot throwers and the maid costume will spawn killer roombas that damage the enemies. To change into a new costume you'll have to discard your previous one, so better be quick. There are also upgrades to the costumes, if you happen to find another copy of the one you are already wearing. These upgraded costumes will grant you even more powerful abilities.
The mod very cleverly integrates the costumes into regular Doom maps, by using the normal armor spawns, so it is possible to play any of the Doom campaigns with this mod, and even most map mods too!
It's probably one of the most unique and fun gameplay mods out there, the costume system manages to always keep you on your toes and never expecting what might happen next.

Looks like The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages is our next GotM game.
I don't think I'll be joining for a replay, but it is my favorite Zelda game. So I hope everyone enjoys it :)
