I picked up Columns recently and looking at the times for completing I'm not sure when to consider it complete, this made me think about similar games such as tetris. So when do you consider something like Tetris or Columns complete?

I don't think you can. The original NES/MSX version of Puyo Puyo (1990) is also endless (unless you play Nazo puyo mode)

And if you look at the times for Tetris, they are basically nonsense (IMO)

either:
set an arbitrary goal which users can extrapolate from, i.e. time to level 100, 100 clears etc.
or, simply establish how long you could play the game before getting bored or were satisfied enough to move onto something else.

Up to you at the end of the day if you even want to add it your completion list.

I decided that I would just do one game and see how long I can last... turns out I'm not good at Columns.

Doesn't Tetris have the rocket launch once you hit 100.000 points or something? I always considered that the moment you beat that game.

I'm pretty sure that only happens on the NES version.

Tetris: You can beat Doremy repeatedly?
Well, as I fail at Tetris I never really thought about that.
Columns: I only know the Game Gear version from that 4-in-1-cardridge and IIRC that had a limited number of levels? 🤔

€dit: Nevermind... that Columns in the 4-in-1 cardridge is actually a Columns clone. As I've never played the real Columns game I always thought it was Columns.

I doubt it's in every Tetris game but it's definitely in NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color Tetris games.
