My backlog grew by about 24 games, give or take a few since I got that number by subtracting my 72 completions from my 96 newly backlogged games from this year and some of my completions didn't start in my backlog. This is very bad, and I hope that next year I can actually shrink my backlog rather than growing it.

My backlog is weird, I have been beating over 100 games since 2019 and every time I do, it just regenerates a massive part of its body like Cell when Vegeta did the Final Flash. My backlog counter never goes lower than 180 games and then buy more games whether it'd be at sales or conventions and it's back to 200. Now despite beating 16 games this month, my backlog is now at 231 games due to the amount of games I got on sale. I'm just starting to think I am better off having fun with these games rather than have a counter go down but yeah, I bought a crap load of games on sale this month. Maybe I might go lower than 180 this year but with me trying to play RPGs now, I am not so sure.

I had 141 noted from the start of the year. Now it's at 155 and that's after removing and adding some things and general reorganization. I've been stuck around 155 for a while now.

I went through my Steam purchase history to see how many games I bought in 2023. I only buy on Steam these days and unfortunately my backlog and rand free (random freebies) lists on HLTB are messed up with random freebies from EGS, Gog, etc. and 95% of these - in all likelihood - I'm never going to touch at all.
The rand free list was an attempt to separate games I might actually at some point play from all the others but so far it was a half-assed attempt. I'd need to spend some actual time on that.
Long story short: I've bought 13 games, 2 DLCs, and 3 misc things in 2023 on Steam.
I tried to look at what I purchased on Humble Bundle by filtering my emails and learned that humble bundle sent out 548 emails to me in 2023. Excessive much? I'm not even signed up with Humble Choice or anything. Well, anyway, turns out I bought something for 1 Euro on there but that should be included in Steam purchase history.
I've beaten 5 games in 2023, so my (proper) backlog increased by 8.

I'd like to proudly share that my backlog actually decreased this year, which I'm super excited about.
In 2023, I completed 108 games and bought only 32 that I added to the backlog. (so not counting HB fillers and various freebies)
I'd say this is a significant improvement, especially compared to previous years when I used to buy 100+ games without much thought.
Now, I only need to sort it and import the games I want to play on my HLTB list.

I calculated that I added 18 games to my backlog throughout the year which is less than I thought. My backlog went from 100 games to 118 in total.

I actually got through a lot of my backlog this year! It was in about 70 titles at the start, and now I'm at 32. I made a concious effort to not really buy almost any new ones, so that certainly helped. Definitely added a bunch of titles anyways (mainly free games, stuff that friends sent my way, or emulated), but it was good self restraint effort

Mine grew this last month by a significant amount because I bought 3 VR bundles and Asgards Wrath 2 came out (a 50 hour VR game).

Surprisingly, mine shrunk; however, I took a few retired games and gave them another whirl, and happily saw their credits roll.

My backlog started at 1,616 games this year and after playing 73 of them, I'm now up to 2,164. I don't know where I get all these games from, I don't spend that much money on them.

I used to only have 300+ backlog at the start of 2023, now I have 800+ which I'm trying to get through this 2024. I think it's because I started buying third-party bundles and having a game pass.

Roughly around 10 games it grew. Besides logging backlog titles my currently playing and completed games added up since I dove into R·E·A·L 3DO Interactive Multiplayer library of games. Still have a few 3DO games I'm currently playing and about to complete.

A lot, but only in the last 2 months or so.
Before that, I would buy a game and then finish it, unless it was really long and I wanted a break from it. This happened rarely.
However, suddenly, I started buying games that had temporary discounts on the playstation, so now I have a bunch of games that I still need to play.
Got all the Yakuzas on discount, as they took turns over the last few months. Still have 5, 6, 0 to play.
As well as some other random games.

Definitely a lot for me 😅. Part of it was me trying to get Wii U and 3DS games before the shop closed down and they got crazy expensive, but part of it was just me frequenting retro game stores an events and finding stuff I was interested in. I slowed down later in the year but geez it was a lot. Here's what I gained, I bolded completed games and italicized games I still had started but were still ongoing at the end of the year,
