I was bored recently and decided to group together games I bought during various Summer and Winter sales on steam throughout the past 3 years, and I realized that I haven't beaten most of the games I buy during each of these sales.

Summer 2021: 9:11
Winter 2021: 4:5
Summer 2022: 7:7
Winter 2022: 3:2
Summer 2023: 8:12
Winter 2023: 1:6

I'm curious to see other people's ratios

Since I usually buy a lot of games, 30+, I really don't have an idea. My backlog is proof that I really have to play more xD

I can probably beat 5-7 games I buy from sales, but it all depends on mood and if I want to play them at the moment. If I buy them physically at a convention that gives me more determination to beat all the games I bought from there.

I rarely play the games I buy during sales immediately, so it'll take time. If I, for example, purchased 10 games during a Steam sale, I probably would finish 1 or 2, depending on what I wanted to play at the moment. It's also the reason my games are accumulating. Good thing I stopped my humble bundle subscription since I totally forgot about the recurring bill and it charged me for months.

I don't have an exact number, but I don't think I've played many? At least one though, since I usually buy one game I really want to play and then fill a cart out of lack of self-control.

Now if I finish that game or no, that's another story...

I don’t buy steam games every winter and summer sale, but often the ones I do get are during them. Is there a way to retroactively see what games you bought during these sales? I’m definitely curious for myself now

I'm sure it's a terrible number for me if we're going off of what I bought, because I usually end up refunding 50-75% of what I buy from Steam sales. Since there's no risk to playing a game for <2 hours, I take a lot of chances on games that aren't guaranteed hits and most of them don't work out.

It seems like I usually beat, refund, or intentionally abandon all but 2-3 games from each sale. Usually because I'm too eager about buying RPGs and buy more of them than it's possible to complete before the next sale comes around and compounds the issue.

I actually haven't gotten a ton of games from summer/winter sales, when I do it's usually ones I plan to actually beat and have on my backlog, like for example the Fallout series from the last steam winter sale, as well as Halo the Master Chief Collection, both of which are pretty high on my backlog, even though it may take a year or 2 to get to it. Though realistically, my backlog is way too big to beat in a lifetime and who knows if I'll actually play some of the games I get on sale. I've gotten 12 games from winter/summer steam sales, and I've beaten 4.
