Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

Positives+Gameplay is fun as usual, the addition of the hookblade and bombs are great too
+A nice end to Ezio's Story
+Also, an end to Altair's story
+Great Soundtrack
+Full Synch objectives aren't as tedious anymore
Negatives
-Visually a bit buggy
-The Lost Archive DLC sucks (gameplay wise)
-Mediocre performance (I capped the game at 60 and used Lossless Scaling frame gen for smoother visuals)
Summary
If you liked AC2 and Brotherhood, I have no doubt you're gonna enjoy this one too.

I'm really mixed on this game. I do really like the story, but the gameplay is easily the weakest of the trilogy. The final cutscene was really good and I loved Old Ezio's adventure in Constantinople. I did however hate most of the Altair scenes, his new voice actor did a horrible job and the voice does not fit the character at all. I don't know why they didn't just ask Phillip to do an Arabian accent.Updated 1 Month Ago

Assassin's Creed Revelations - Review (75/100)Assassin's Creed Revelations serves as the closing chapter of Ezio Auditore’s journey and ties his story to that of Altair, the series’ original protagonist. While it offers moments of emotional resonance and a visually stunning setting, the gameplay feels overly familiar and burdened by unnecessary mechanics, making it a mixed experience compared to its predecessors.
Pros:
A Fitting Farewell to Ezio:
Revelations provides a heartfelt conclusion to Ezio’s arc. His reflections on life, purpose, and legacy add emotional depth. The connection between Ezio and Altair, explored through Desmond's Animus sequences, is one of the game’s narrative highlights.
Beautiful Constantinople Setting:
The bustling streets and iconic landmarks of Constantinople during the Ottoman Empire are richly detailed and immersive. The city’s blend of cultures provides a unique aesthetic that stands out in the series.
Strong Story Beats:
While the overall plot lacks urgency, key moments—such as the revelations about Altair’s later life and Ezio’s poignant discovery of his role in the grander Assassin vs. Templar conflict—are memorable and impactful.
Refined Combat and Parkour:
Combat is smooth, and new additions like the hook blade enhance parkour and traversal, making exploration faster and more fluid.
Bomb Crafting System:
The introduction of customizable bombs adds some variety to stealth and combat. Players can experiment with different effects, from lethal explosions to distractions, creating new approaches to missions.
Cons:
Bloated Mechanics:
Revelations introduces several new systems, like Den Defense (a tower defense mini-game), that feel unnecessary and out of place. These mechanics detract from the core Assassin’s Creed experience rather than enhancing it.
Overly Familiar Gameplay:
By this point in the series, the core gameplay loop is starting to feel stale. While some refinements are made, the lack of significant innovation makes Revelations feel like more of the same.
Underwhelming Desmond Segments:
The Desmond sequences, presented as first-person platforming challenges, are tedious and awkward. They feel disconnected from the main game and fail to provide meaningful insight into his story.
Final Thoughts:
Assassin's Creed Revelations is a decent entry that delivers closure to Ezio and Altair’s stories while setting up the next phase of the franchise. However, it struggles under the weight of unnecessary features and overly familiar mechanics, leaving it feeling like a step back from the brilliance of Brotherhood. For fans of Ezio and the series’ lore, it’s worth playing, but it lacks the spark to stand out as a defining installment.
Final Verdict: 75/100. A visually stunning but mechanically bloated sequel that closes Ezio’s story with dignity but fails to innovate where it matters.

Why is Assassin's Creed Revelations so obsessed with getting the player out of Constantinople? Honestly, there is a core here that would be a very strong - albeit relatively short - Assassin's Creed game on its own, but the developers have thrown too many things at the wall, hoping they would stick. It leaves an impression of them wanting to justify charging full price for a game of which the playtime does not necessarily warrant it, so they just add a handful of other things that haven't been completely thought-out yet.The most egregious examples of these are Desmond's Journey and Den Defense. The former are first person sections that feel completely out of place within the game. I have long held the belief that the entire Assassin's Creed series would have been better without the modern day aspect, and this is probably the best example of the modern day portion clashing with the historic main feature of an Assassin's Creed game. If I wanted to play a first person game, I would have bought one. It's even worse than the worst Da Vinci Code-ish crap in the previous two games. During Den Defense, you have to protect your Assassin's Den against Templar attacks in some sort of very underdeveloped real time strategy-esque scenario. Fortunately, only the first one is absolutely mandatory. I've had to deal with one more during my playtime, but it could technically be avoided for the rest of the game.
Another thing that interrupts the flow of the game is how the player is put into the perspective of Altaïr, the protagonist of the first Assassin's Creed game, every time you discover a Masyaf Key. These particular parts of the game could be interesting, and they might even be for people who care more about the lore than I do, but from a gameplay perspective, these chapters simply aren't substantial enough to be anything else than an annoying distraction. It gets worse the more Masyaf keys you discover, because Altaïr ages and gets notably less mobile throughout the game. Realistic, but not fun.
Despite all these criticisms, the core of Assassin's Creed Revelations is excellent. First of all: Constantinople is the most beautiful city in the history of the series. Hopefully my interest in Istanbul doesn't cloud my judgement here, but traversing Constantinople is extremely fun. There are more visually distinctive landmarks than in the previous two Ezio games, which makes getting around the city without a map a lot easier, and completing all there is to do in the city actually felt fun, rather than just crossing things off a list like it kind of felt like in its - admittedly overall better - predecessor.
Training protégé Assassins weirdly is both better and worse than in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Worse in that it feels slightly less involved than in the previous game and there is no way you can keep the entire Mediterranean safe in one or two playthroughs. But at the same time, you build more of a connection with the Master Assassins because you can assign them to a specific den and there are unique(-ish) missions tied to that, most of which are some of the better missions in the game.
The detection systems still have not developed to the point where players would actually feel like a stealthy assassin. Where I felt like you had to get a little too close for guards to actually spot you in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, there are parts in Assassin's Creed Revelations where I just don't understand what Ezio even has been spotted doing. Either is bad for a stealth game, but I absolutely feel that it needs some more work.
While I feel the need to mention that I don't really care about the story nearly every review I write about a game that features a somewhat prominent plot, I do think that the main plot of Assassin's Creed Revelations is done quite well. Older Ezio is more likeable to me than his younger self, and many of the characters that matter are quite well-written. Well... Ezio's love interest/helper Sophia kind of comes and goes in a way that makes me think the writers had to cut quite a bit of content written for her, and there's a bit of deus ex machina here and there, but it was involved enough to work as an incentive to keep going. Also, am I the only one who thinks most of the pupil Assassins understand even less about why the Assassins and the Templars hate each other than I do?
Overall, 80 percent seems quite a fitting rating given the amount of fun I've had with the core of the game. Objectively, it might deserve a lower score due to the staggering amount of underdeveloped stuff thrown at the wall - none of which sticks - but Assassin's Creed Revelations did have the highest peaks of the Ezio series gameplay-wise for me. I think it's genuinely a better game than Assassin's Creed II, but Assassin's Creed Brotherhood definitely is the better total package by a considerable margin.

Fourth AC on the board for me, and honestly? It was really good. I have issues with it, but generally I think it stands toe-to-toe with Brotherhood. Again, this isn't really a big jump, you can see that the series by this point is more iterative, with smaller improvements and changes between entries.I do think it's still fair to say that it cleans up a lot of Brotherhood's flaws in my eyes, Constantinople is a much more dense city, that's much more enjoyable to run through and live in. It feels more lively, and it's got atmosphere in spades, and generally feels more 'alive' than Rome. And it has virtually NO unused space, which was a big point of contention I had with Brotherhood. Waaaay too much dead space, with nothing of interest between major points of Rome.
Mechanics have some touchups, nothing really all that notable imo. Parachuts, bombs, crafting/buying them, etc. But they're kinda clunky, and in my playthrough I really only took advantage of distraction bombs. I really only used either when they were mandatory I noticed.
I think the simplest way to put it, is that most of the things Brotherhood introduced, Revelations expands on, and for the most part; I think pretty favorably of it. The Brotherhood recruitments? Expanded, bite-sized stories with individual assassins you may recruit on your journey, rather than the basic "help citizen" prompt. Assassin recruit missions? Have more benefits than just XP now, providing more passive income, and materials for crafting new equipment. Outposts? Much more engaging, having to scan every inch of each one to find their leaders, some of which may run, which results in a chase, some may fight, it's a generally pretty good time.
There's still some tacked on fluff, that's really only there for variety's sake, like a weird tower defense minigame, the game really only forces it on you once in a tutorial, and if you keep your templar awareness down, you will literally never have to engage with it. I'm not even entirely sure what it offers beyond fending off templar raids. I did not get raided once in my entire playthrough, since awareness is pretty easy to keep low, lmao.
However, finally, a slight touchup to Ezio's movement! Introducing: the hookblade. This baby speeds Ezio up by miles when it comes to climbing, and allows for some nifty maneuvers that make getting around a breeze, and larger gaps that would've slowed him down in chases are now no longer a problem, and really pushes forward the feeling of smoothness and control when in big chases. There's a few smaller improvements it brings, like vaulting over guards and such. Which is useful, because they typically form walls, then cut you down, if they get out in front of you.
Anyway. Narratively, I think this is probably tied with AC2 for favorites. Brotherhood was kind of a mess narratively, not as far as actual 'messy' writing, but really, it felt like it was only there to set up a gameplay premise, it had it's moments, of course, but it just wasn't that memorable imo. The returning faces were nice though.
Revelations has a really good plot to follow throughout though, much more compelling than most of Brotherhood. Ezio is older, colder, more cynical, but wise. He still contains a warm, jovial presence. He's still a little shithead. Of course, till extremely entertaining to watch progress; and finally heal his wounds from the last 3 decades as an assassin. Lots of time is spent reflecting on what it was all for, and where it would lead him when he was finally finished. It's nothing deep, but it's nice to keep seeing growth and introspection from someone who was once naive, and quick to snuff out opposition.
It's nice to see Ezio rediscover love again, the chemistry between him and Sophia is cute, fun to follow. But more importantly, this game has huge payoffs for slogging through the first game; you spend the bulk of this game unravelling Altair's story, and it's just funny to me that basically all of Altair's best moments aren't even in his own game. But, if you played it, it still feels really rewarding. Areas from the first game are wonderfully recreated, seeing the Masyaf temple after so long was really fulfilling, and in retrospect makes me (almost) not regret playing AC1. This story brings both of their journeys to a close, and I think it does a great job at passing the torch forward, and letting Ezio finally live for himself. Something Altair didn't get to do, but he dedicated his life to his cause.
All-in-all, I can see how the game may have been polarizing in the moment, I think fans were beaten down and tired from yearly Ezio releases by this point, and were ready for the next big thing in the series. But in retrospect, I think it's a pretty damn good time, and trades blows with Brotherhood in most aspects. Fun time.

VERDICT:
In my opinion this is the weakest one out of Ezio's story and sadly the ending of his tale, the story is a tad weaker to the older games and the ending isn't the best but it's a must play if you're into the Creed's story since it's more about the Assassin's above anything else, and of course the apple of Eden is always a big part as expected. There's a lot of positives to this game and is worth the asking price but don't expect a strong finish.
Total Score = 80/100.

GAMEPLAY:
It is the fourth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, a direct sequel to 2010's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control.
The framing story is set in the 21st century and features the series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. Revelations features two other returning protagonists: Altaïr and Ezio. The main story follows the Assassin Ezio's journey to unlock the secret of Altaïr's vault in Masyaf using disc-like artifacts containing Altaïr's memories.

Updated 4.5 Months Ago

Following Ezio from birth to death, this is his final chapter. Truly an amazing story. This series has so much potentialGood
- Altair's story is revisited and expanded
- The development of Ezio's life is well structured with dialogues pertaining to his increasing maturity as an assassin.
- Bombs are a nice addition. They can be crafted with detail suiting the situation. They also provide aid to full synchronization.
- The hookblade. It allows the incorporation of the zipline where Ezio can zip across some parts of the city. He can also, get past guards more effectively with the hookblade.
- Characters are interesting.
- The story of Ezio is intriguing. The game allows you to bond with him from birth to death.
Bad
- If you shoot a crossbow arrow into a guards back, he will only lose a quarter health. On the other hand if you shoot him in the front, it is one hit kill.
- Hit detection is not as accurate previous Assassin's Creeds.

This game plays very similarly to AC Brotherhood, for better or for worse. I liked the general story— it was interesting seeing Ezio’s relationship to Yusuf and Sofia play out. He also has an interesting connection to Altair, the protagonist of the first AC game. This brought a satisfying conclusion to Ezio’s grand story arc. However this time around, the game brings a couple of gameplay innovations: bomb crafting and Mediterranean defense, both of which feel extremely tedious and in your face (you now get bomb-crafting ingredients out of most chests instead of money, and your Assassin-controlled cities will quickly lose control if you aren’t micro-managing them every second you get). I don’t think they added much value compared to how much time they waste. There’s also a handful of den defense battle which were fine and some truly chaotic on-rails sequences that were both fun and hilarious. I think this game is probably the weakest of the Ezio trilogy, but still fun and worth playing.Updated 6 Months Ago

Story - Somehow was both dull and engaging. I found myself not caring that much about Yusuf, but the storyline of finding the Masyaf Keys and Sofia helping decode Polo was very intriguing. I enjoyed the Byzantine story and the twist of the Sultan at the end.Additions - Hook Blade is a TOP TIER addition and it felt so natural to use and traverse with it.
Gameplay - Same gameplay as Brotherhood, but seemingly fixed all the issues i had with Brotherhood.
Setting - Wasn't the biggest fan of Constantinople and the way they presented it. Everything felt the same, every part of the city felt the same as every other part of the city.
Combat - Chaining kills was a great addition, just wish it could be more skill-based such as a timing event in order to chain it or something like that.
Overall: 8.8/10 - not quite as good as AC1 but very close behind it.

This is the AC game I played most as a kid. I played it at least twice. I was convinced it was "kind of janky", but honestly it's no worse in that regard than any other classic AC game. It's so good. CHILD ME WAS RIGHT. Yusuf Tazim remains one of my favorite supporting characters in video games, and I love the tower defense minigame in this one (as little as I played it in this run, too busy dominating the territories to have to defend them). Feels like a fixed version of Brotherhood. A huge game that mostly works. Pros:
+ The art direction for Constantinople is great. The sun light in this game is even better than in Brotherhood.
+ The music is awesome again.
+ The hookblade is cool.
+ The character models are more detailed and look better.
+ The story is cohesive again and side missions don't dilute it. Also, Ezio got a respectful closure.
+ Masyaf!
Cons:
- Desmond missions don't add much and feel more like a prototype than the real game.
- Constantinople has a few cool sights (like Hagia Sofia), but otherwise is pretty generic.
- Masyaf missions are poorly designed.
- Tower defence missions are an abomination.
