As much as I love Ezio I felt like I was getting legit tortured at some point....This is the lesser game of Ezio the trilogy in my opinion.
In all seriousness the story and score was good however the game's level designs and the limitations of being confined to Rome was what soured the experience for me.

I played ACB right after AC2, as part of the Ezio Collection in NS. ACB is direct continuation from AC2 story. I like the story a lot, like I did with AC2. Compared to the latter, this game’s main story is quite short but it has a lot of other side contents. There were times where I got carried away with unlocking shops, portals, Borgia towers, recruiting assassins, and among other things that I forgot the main storyline quests.
The graphics look and feel better that AC2. Combat was geared towards using long range weapon more, xbows and pistols, or using recruits rather than hand to hand. If in case you need to do hand to hand, it is way easier compared to AC2 because of kill streak. I am not complaining though. This helped a lot because most of the quests involves assassination, following, or infiltrating without being detected.
The puzzles were quite challenging for me. I spent considerable time figuring where and how to get to specific locations. I really appreciate the subtle visual cues. For instance, the correct path is slightly more illuminated than its surroundings. Those little details.
Overall. Good experience. I will be expecting the same with ACR.

Though it is most certainly an improvement over its predecessor from a mechanical perspective, I found myself slightly disappointed by this game. AC Brotherhood is a great title, but its story pales in comparison to AC2 and the game is a little more repetitive and weaker than AC2. Ultimately, I really enjoyed my time with it and I still think it is a solid game, I just wish that it were more substantial as a story and that the main Brotherhood mechanic played a bigger role in the game. It is great fun, just not as good as AC2.

This is just Assassin's Creed II, but worse in every way. The main villain feels weak and pathetic, the story peaks in the first DNA sequence, none of the characters feel all that strong in this one, and Leonardo's barely in it. The climbing and combat just feel worse too. The lock-on system is the worst its ever been in these games with Ezio just swinging away from the enemies half the time. The side content wasn't all that interesting either compared to the last game. The game is okay, but it isn't good and ultimately just feels unnecessary.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - Review (90/100)

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood takes the winning formula of its predecessor and refines it further, delivering an unforgettable adventure in the sprawling city of Rome. With enhanced gameplay, a deeper story, and the introduction of new mechanics like recruiting your own assassin army, Brotherhood cements Ezio Auditore’s legacy as one of gaming’s most iconic protagonists.

Pros:

Deepened Storyline:
Ezio’s journey continues with a compelling narrative about rebuilding the Assassin Brotherhood to face the powerful Borgia family. The game seamlessly combines personal stakes with larger-than-life conflicts, giving players a story that’s both intimate and epic.

Rome as a Dynamic Playground:
The single, massive city of Rome is the star of the show. Unlike the segmented cities of ACII, Rome is a living, breathing world filled with historical landmarks like the Colosseum and the Vatican. The city’s layout encourages exploration, blending urban areas with countryside seamlessly.

Brotherhood System:
The introduction of recruitable assassins adds a strategic layer to gameplay. Training and deploying your recruits on missions, or summoning them to aid in combat or assassinations, feels empowering and provides a sense of growth and responsibility.

Enhanced Combat and Tools:
Combat feels faster and more fluid, with chain-kill mechanics allowing for stylish takedowns. New gadgets like the crossbow and poison darts expand stealth options, making missions more versatile.

Side Activities and Renovation System:
Rome is packed with engaging side content, from rebuilding the city by investing in shops and landmarks to participating in gladiator-style missions in the Colosseum. These activities feel meaningful and provide satisfying rewards.

Memorable Villains:
The Borgia family, particularly Cesare Borgia, is a formidable and charismatic foe. The game’s central conflict with Cesare is personal and intense, keeping players invested until the final confrontation.

Cons:

Minimal Evolution in Gameplay:
Though Brotherhood refines the mechanics of ACII, it doesn’t drastically innovate. Many elements feel like extensions of the previous game rather than entirely new concepts.

Final Thoughts:

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood masterfully builds on the foundation of ACII, delivering a dense and immersive experience packed with story, action, and exploration. Though it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it polishes nearly every aspect of its predecessor and introduces compelling new mechanics, like the Brotherhood system. For fans of the franchise, this is an essential chapter in the saga.

Final Verdict: 90/100. A richly detailed and action-packed continuation of Ezio’s story that solidifies the Assassin’s Creed series as a powerhouse in the action-adventure genre.

AC: Brotherhood is great; it's not nearly the same jump as AC1 ➡️ AC2, but it cleans & spruces up an already winning formula, and adds a more clearly defined structure that AC1&2 had struggled to find. I wouldn't say that this new foundation is entirely concise, but it's more clear cut and interesting than it's older brothers.

Instead of having multiple smaller cities to rummage and slash your way through, this game makes the decision to have one sprawling city, of course being Rome. Rome is definitely big enough to replace these other locales, but I can't help but feel that it has a lot more empty & dead space than AC2's cities, and being that it is only one city, things can start to feel a smidge visually homogenous, at times.

New additions to Ezio's arsenal and moveset are fun to use, I cannot go without mentioning the newly introduced 'kill streak' mechanic, being that after routing any one individual enemy, if there is another nearby, Ezio will glide on over and do an instakill animation on them. It's satisfying, looks neat. Average AAA combat affair. I appreciate that the game takes advantage of this, because enemies come in massive hordes compared to anything seen in the first or second game, and it feels good to cut down entire swaths of enemies in seconds. New arsenal additions are new weapon types like heavy weapons, and a crossbow, both of which are fun to use imo (Bastard sword my beloved..)

On top of these things, there's a new assassin's recruitment mechanic, it's pretty basic, but it allows for some neat ways to handle the utterly massive pools of enemies that exist. You can help liberate NPCs being attacked by guards, and in turn, they'll become assassins. Immediate changes that this makes to the standard gameplay is that you can call them to help deal with pesky enemies while sleuthing around, or even have them deal with massive pools of them, provided you have enough assassins to go through.

Otherwise, it adds a small distraction to the side, allowing you to get them basic levelups, which allows for some simple, but fun customization. These levels allow them to tackle contracts, which allows for more levelling, which is more customization, which leads into more difficult contracts. It's a pretty good feedback loop. Plus, making some passive income.

Speaking of passive income, the biggest overhaul to the formula for Brotherhood, versus it's predecessors, there's a new system for rebuilding Rome, as it's been overthrown by this game's antagonists. The gameplay & feedback loop for this function is super compelling, and kinda addictive if you like seeing numbers go up.

The structure for this is essentially being that each district of Rome has an enemy outpost that needs clearing, the standard open-world affair, but what mixes it up is that once you clear it, the district has shops that you can throw a bit of coin into opening up yourself, every shop you open will provide bonuses & discounts, and a bit more passive income to throw in the banks that you can also open. More shops? More money. More money? More gear, more shops, and the loop continues. It's a much more clear cut foundation than AC2s, where realistically you probably could just jump mission to mission and be fine.

I really spent more time than I should've LARPing as a handsome renaissance Mr. Beast, opening every shop I came across. Pretty sure I'm at like 90% completion because of it, LOL.

Ironically, where it gains a more clearly defined structure, the plot is a bit less interesting as a whole, imo. AC2 had a hell of an ending to try and clean up and explain moving forward, so I get it, but I can't really help but feel like they wrote themselves into a corner with the overarching plot. Ezio still remains entertaining to watch and play as though. His growth from cocky teen, to master, and leader of the Assassins Order, is still really enjoyable to watch, and they find new ways to play on his teen years with some new flashback segments, that fill some gaps that were empty in AC2. Having a majority recurring cast from AC2 as well was a nice decision, as there was some loose ends to character interactions I liked seeing wrapped up in this game.

In truth, I do think that I generally prefer the plot to AC2 though. But it's just a more well-rounded, fuller plot by comparison I think. It would have been difficult to make a more complete experience narratively imo.

A respectable sequel to Assassin’s Creed 2, with some glaring flaws and frustrations that hold it back from greatness.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was originally meant be to be an AC2 DLC rather than a full-fledged game. In some ways you can’t tell. In other ways, you absolutely can. It’s large, it’s ambitious, Rome is incredibly impressive, the game adds all sorts of new game mechanics, and even the graphics are noticeably upgraded. This is a full, well-realized game that stands on its own. Where it’s lacking is some of the forethought and decision-making that went into writing, pacing, and realizing this world.

Positives:

+ AC:B has the best Desmond content yet, bar none.
+ Visuals are noticeably improved over AC1 & 2, with better lighting and textures.
+ Combat is significantly improved. The animations, the kick, and general combat felt a lot more fun than in AC2. Combat for once feels proactive rather than just reactive.
+ Fewer villains and side characters, with more focus on them and their character development. The interactions and cutscenes involving Cesare, Rodrigo, and Lucrezia were a real highlight.
+ The recruiting system was a nice addition, and sending out assassins was fun.
+ The real world structures were beautifully done, including the Colosseum, Castel Sant’Angelo and the aqueducts.

Negatives:

- Pacing is a mess, especially the end of the game, which came out of nowhere and then proceeded to go through a bunch of disjointed sequences that left my head spinning. The game is only 9 sequences, compared to the 13 in AC2. There's too much side content. AC2 strikes a nice balance between the campaign and side content. They flowed together. AC:B only has about 15 hours of main story and then 30 hours of side content.
- Rome didn’t feel as well utilized as AC2’s cities. Too much open space and landscape traversal was often a pain. Parkour took a backseat in this game, which was disappointing. Roman ruins are a pain to navigate. The parkour system frequently wasn’t smart enough to traverse pillars. It often messed up understanding my intent, which led to a lot of me yelling at the game. The Quick Travel system was also more effort than it was worth.
- Uneven mission difficulty, especially thanks to all the stealth missions. Stealth was incredibly frustrating and led to a lot of cursing at the screen. The tailing missions were excessive, you often had to follow an invisible path, and you’d instantly fail if you deviated at all. It was frustrating guesswork rather than skill.
- Courtesan/Thief/Assassin missions were fun occasionally, but there were too many and they weren’t well integrated. I had to go do them all after having finished the game. Also, the Truth Glyphs felt like an afterthought. As did weapons upgrades, art, shop upgrades, and races. Lots of things that carried over from AC2 felt a bit half-assed here, just thrown in to artificially inflate the play time. The Tiber hideout felt like a big step down from the AC2 Villa.
- Music was good, but a step down from AC1/2. Less memorable.
- Borgia Towers were annoying. Failing a mission because the target happened to get away, and then having to wait for the day/night cycle for him to return – was frustrating. Additionally, climbing the towers was a lot more difficult than in AC2, and not in a good way.
- The 50% sync mechanic is HORRIBLE. It both creates FOMO and forces you to finish missions in a certain way, which is a no-no for an open world game. Failing to get 100% over some stupid reason was infuriating. This mechanic is the single worst part of AC:B.

----------

This review has a lot more negatives listed than positives, but it’s still a very good game. The issue is that for every step forward it took from AC2, it took two steps backwards, which resulted in an end product that felt rushed and incomplete. The bones of a great game are there, and a lot of work was put into some great new ideas that were a genuine upgrade from AC2 – ideas like the combat mechanics, certain side missions, and the entire assassin recruiting system. With some more planning and another 6 months in the oven, AC:B could have been a truly great game, just as AC2 was. But as it stands, the game has too many half-measures and too much frustration to be on AC2’s level.

Story: 70/100 - Brotherhood picks up directly where AC2 ended. Warning: Spoilers for the beginning of the game ahead!
After Ezio returns home from the Vatican, Monteriggioni is attacked shortly after by the Borgia's army. Most of Monteriggioni is destroyed, including the Villa Auditore alongside most of Ezio's gear. Not only that, but while defending and evacuating the town at the same time, the gate to to the Town is breached and Cesare Borgia holds Uncle Mario at gunpoint. Unable to make it in time, Ezio has to watch his Uncle die. He slowly retreats and is able to escape with his mother and sister. He sends his mother and sister back to his birth town Florence, while making his way to Rome. Ezio passes out on horseback due to his injuries. When he wakes up, he finds himself in the care of a roman woman, who took care him. She tells him, that a man brought him to her and asked to take care of him. That man also told the woman to tell Ezio that he is supposed to meet Machiavelli, an old friend.

Relatively spoiler free TL;DR of above: Ezio decides to clean up his mess and go to Rome to find and kill Rodrigo Borgia, after the it became clear to Ezio that sparing him was a mistake, since Bogia's forces attacked Monteriggioni right after Ezio's return.

Overall, the story is not bad. Not as good as AC2 in that regard though.

Gameplay: 80/100 - The core gameplay mechanics of Brotherhood are mostly the same as in AC2. The parkouring feels a little more refined and fluid, but not too different from AC2. The combat feels a little dumbed down however. Ezio can now chain execute enemies after a successful counterattack, turning him into an absolute killing machine. While this is very cool and satisfying to do, it also makes combat a little too easy in my opinion.

There are some nice new additions as well, such as the Crossbow, Assassin Recruits and Full Sync Objectives for example. The Full Sync Objectives make you approach missions in a different manner then you would usually do, which can be fun. However these objectives sometimes clash with the mission design, making some missions very tedious to get 100% sync at. Assassin Recruits are unlocked in the story and can be used to assassinate targets, or make more money by sending them on contracts. They level up through contracts to be more efficient at them and earning you even more money. As soon as you recruit six assassins, you also unlock the powerful Arrow Storm ability, allowing you to kill multiple enemies silently at once.

Also, I have to say that only having 1 City in contrast to AC2's 3 Cities (not counting Monteriggioni) just was a little disappointing.

Visuals: 85/100 - The game looks substantially better than AC2. It still has some minor flickering issues with textures, but not nearly as bad as AC2. The only real eyesore in Brotherhood, is the draw distance for things such as foliage. Pop-in seemingly only 20m in front of you really is jarring.

Performance: 90/100 - Good. The game has to be locked to 60fps, otherwise some things that are tied to the framerate will break. Not just visually, but some missions can't be completed when playing at more than 60fps. Core affinity also has to applied just like in the previous game to reduce stuttering, and it thankfully also stutters a lot less too.

Audio: 75/100 - The Audio is good, however a lot of it has been recycled from AC2. NPC's often repeat lines that you have already heard a hundred times in AC2. Some of the actual OST has been recycled as well, and the new additions just don't hit as hard as the tracks from AC2.

Bugs: 65/100 - I've only ran into some minor bugs, except for one game breaking bug near the end which required me to restart the whole mission I was doing.

Overall: 75/100

Length:
10-15h - Story Only
20-25h - Story + Some Sides
30-40h - 100%

TL;DR: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is basically a big expansion of AC2, doing some things better than it's predecessor, but unfortunately also quite a number of things worse. If you just want more of AC2, you will probably still have a lot of fun with it though.

If you're a die hard AC fan and playing for memories/story then this is a must pick up game to add to your collection, following Ezio and Desmond in their in depth story.

GAMEPLAY:
It is the third major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and a direct sequel to 2009's Assassin's Creed II. The plot follows the centuries-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace with free will, and the Templars, who desire the same but through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and features series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story takes place immediately after the plot of Assassin's Creed II, featuring Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze in 16th century Italy and his quest to restore the Assassin order, and destroy his enemies: the Borgia family.

A ver qué tal Revelations.

As a direct follow-up to Assassin's Creed II, my expectations were low but I had it anyway with The Ezio Collection, so might as well give it a chance, right? Well, now I have the answer to a question I never asked, and I think I'm done for a long while with the Assassin's Creed franchise. I promised a friend to play one of the recent ones some day, but like we say in France 'promises only bind those who listen to them' ;)

Some may find Brotherhood to be a repetition of it's predecessor. However, the formula the game follows is still great.

Good

- Banking system and earning money systems are well implemented

- The Assassin's modern day hideout and interactions have improved greatly from ACII.

- Ezio can recruit citizens into the Assassin's guild and they will come to Ezio's aid.
Cool implementaion.

- The story is engaging. Ties between modern day and the past are brilliantly written.

- Characters are very interesting. Especially the ones from ACII.

- Combat has improved slightly, but with some glitches.

- Multi-player

- The four modern day assassin's have more interesting character compared to ACII.

Bad

- The lack of measurement shown for the player between Ezio and the destination on the mini-map makes it difficult to decide whether to take a horse or run. The cities are enormous and sometimes it is better to take a horse.

- There are a lot more stealth and undercover missions. Which can be quite punishing if you are the impatient type.

- There are glitches in some parts. Inability to move, short freezes.

Playthrough was split as i played 6 sequences first and had to take a break for a few months before resuming and completing the game later.

Story in this game built off the fantastic AC2 and didnt skip a beat in that regard. I LOVED the Antagonists and the companions throughout this game and really building the Brotherhood.

The addition of the "Brotherhood Assassin's" was peak imo, i loved recruiting someone then raising them all the way to a full assassin then utilizing them in battle or chases.

There were much more frustrations in this game compared to AC2 with movement and Ezio just not doing the exact thing i tell him too, making me repeat parkour sections multiple times because of it.

Combat was the same as AC2 - No Change

Overall: 7.8/10 - not quite as good as AC1 but very close behind it.

Builds on the success of AC2 a lot, however it's largely limited to one map. This is both good and bad- I think the area is broad enough to not get stale, and they added some neat mechanics, but ultimately I would have liked to venture further out of Rome.

They are very repetitive quests, not the most interesting story either. I enjoyed the climbing, zip lines, and combat, excellent as always when playing AC. I am giving it 5/10 because I had a hard time gathering the courage even to start the game often :(

Playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. From the moment I started, I was entirely hooked by the fun and intriguing gameplay. The world of Renaissance-era Rome is beautifully crafted, and the storyline truly sucks you in. I was deeply invested in Ezio's journey, uncovering secrets and tackling challenges that kept me in my seat.

However, my experience was frustrating. The game is plagued with bugs and performance issues that seriously detract from the overall enjoyment. There were several times when I couldn't complete missions due to glitches, which was incredibly annoying. The frequent stutters and other performance hiccups often broke my immersion and made parts of the game feel less polished.

Despite these issues, I still had a great time with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. The story and gameplay are strong enough to keep you engaged, even if the technical problems can be a significant drawback.

While the bugs and performance issues were a let-down, the captivating story and enjoyable gameplay made it worth playing for me.

You cant just go wrong with Ezio. Probably the best story and gameplay wise in the whole trilogy but for me it'll never top ACII just for the pure amazement I got from seeing Ezio for the first time. Still one of the best games overall ever made, it's a must play for every new AC fan or for anyone that wants to get into the series. Go play ACII first though, you dont wanna get caught up in the middle of things without knowing anything do you?

The music was awesome along with Desmond's story! Liked AC 2 more though, this one's story was a bit shallow!

Online was deactivated. Evolution again on previous title but felt weaker as an overall package. Some interesting quests but felt story was a little all over the place. Enjoy the building up of your empire and visiting Rome

Fucking fantastic. It remains a classic. I think the art for this game is hilarious, because you see all these characters around Ezio with the word "Brotherhood" and assume they are his friends. They are the multiplayer characters (Multiplayer no longer available), and you only see them in the game once each when you kill them on one-off missions. This game has one of my favorite villains in the series, Cesare Borgia, who is basically adult Geoffrey Baratheon and he starts shitting his pants roughly 45 minutes before you actually fight him. He becomes entertainingly pathetic as the game goes on. You also get to hang out with Copernicus. The Christina missions are a mixed bag in my opinion, showing some story around Ezio's lost love. I like them overall, but they paint young Ezio in kind of a weird macho light imo. The side missions about Da Vinci's inventions are fantastic, however. Lastly, I'm happy to say that the PC ports have largely held up outside of the first AC game. I'm having so much fun going back through these.
