Maybe repetitive gameplay wise but for the time it truly was a gorgeous game, it is the blueprint of the entire franchise after all.The diversity between the cities and the writing is what makes it a classic.

You can tell the first installment of Assassin's Creed is the backbone of the amazing series. What a joy it was to play. Its advanced mechanics are basic and simple and really highlight how AC started out and what they've improved on over the years. The atmosphere and setting of this game are incredible. It takes place during the Third Crusade in the Holy Land, and Ubisoft nailed it with being able to historically replicate it. My passion for history really makes this game 2x better, giving a great insight into the world during this time period, even though it may not be 100% accurate. I had a blast jumping from rooftop to rooftop in Masyaf, Jerusalem, etc. The parkour is incredible, even for today's standards. The characters are amazing; I loved Al Mualim and especially loved Altair. They crafted him perfectly—cold, ruthless, and mysterious. He's such a badass character and one of my favorite video game characters of all time. I absolutely LOVED the lore. Although the repetitiveness holds back the game, and I didn't really like being interrupted occasionally to travel back to the modern period, but overall I didn't mind it too much. Wish it was longer. The atmosphere, lore, parkour, and historical setting are all things that make me love this game. A 9/10 for me.Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

The one that started it all. Very old game and core mechanics. Insaleny repetitive though. I loved Altaïr personality, he's a total badass. But gameplay was bad, unprecise, and boring. Graphics looked old. Was nice to see how this franchise started.Play it only if you enjoy AC games a lot or if you are curious.

The first Assassin's Creed game is very hard to enjoy nowadays. It is fundamentally a very boring but functional beginning to the series that falls pretty flat due to repetitive missions and a simple world. I give it a slightly above average in that the story, unique setting, and assassinations were enough to keep me going through to the end, but ultimately I found the first AC to be a slog. I won't be replaying it in the future, but I do greatly appreciate the fact that it introduced me to the significantly more excellent entries in the series.Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

Basic ubisoft mind numbing gameplay with a somewhat compelling premise and plot. Repetitive gameplay, repetitive missions. Admittingly cool free running mechanics, and very impressive animations for Altair when going from low profile to high profile actions. Sets up the rest of the series quite well.Updated 1 Month Ago

Almost 2 decades after its original release, I decided to play the original Assassin's Creed. I was quite young when it released and sadly wasn't allowed to play it because of the violence. Today, many years and a lot of violent games later, I finally completed the game that started this immense franchise. And surprisingly, I had a really fun time doing so.I played this game on a Steam Deck and it feels like a match made in heaven: the performance is perfect at 60fps, while the graphics look amazing on the smaller display. I really liked the dry and desaturated style, and the 3 main cities were different enough that they delivered a nice change of scenery between missions. Combat is rather basic, but functional. The same goes for the movement and platforming: it never truly feels amazing, but it does feel cohesive and immersive to move around in the world. The story is simple, naive and a bit stupid, but I kind of love it because of that. Actually, this encompasses my feelings about the whole game: a contrived but sincere game that does nothing extraordinary, but tries its hardest to deliver a complete package and succeeds in doing so.

I had fun with this one. It definitely feels like the first entry, it's very simple gameplay-wise. Still, the combat was pretty fun and I enjoyed my time. The story could have been better though, things got a little repetitive and maybe adding some more cities or different ways to track targets would have helped.Updated 1.5 Months Ago

Whole the story trains intriguing, AC1 falls prey to it's tech demo feel and the fact that there has now been dozens of games. There's a reason Ubisoft remastered the Ezio trilogy, AC3, Rogue, and basically Black Flag and not Part 1. It simply does not, and is a perfect example of a sixth generation game doing so, hold up what so ever.Updated 2 Months Ago

For a game in 2007, its pretty impressive. Graphically gorgeous and the fact you can climb almost any surface is pretty incredible. The story was interesting enough to keep me engaged.Unfortunately the game suffers from a number of flaws that prevent it from being truly great. The core game play loop is very repetitive and especially towards the end of the game extremely frustrating.
Stealth is competently done however can be incredibly frustrating. And do not even start me on the beggars and drunkards. More than once did I kill a civilian just to get them to leave me alone.
combat starts off fine, but becomes very samey quickly and again towards the end of the game just becomes a huge slog when you are fighting large amounts of enemies, that stun, counter and guard break you often. Combat also lacks variety for how much emphasis it has on it, especially toward the end game. While you can choose between sword and short blade (by selecting your throwing knives), the styles are incredibly similar. Also with the short blade its possible to accidently throw your knife by accident because your enemy is just out of reach.
The side missions start fine, until you realise you are going to be doing the same 6-7 minigames 9-10 times throughout the game, with increasing difficulty. While I am not claming to be a pro-gamer, I also felt that some of the minigames were also quite frustrating and will fail you quite mercilessly.

Annoying parkour system + THE MOST ANNOYING NPCS (constantly spotted directly or harass you) and repetitive quotes...Annoying camera lock after some quests (save citizens) + lock inside hiding spot while on run...
No loots, rewards from anything...
Also npcs that can track you from miles away on run...
Combat locking ennemies weirdly but counter attack are deadly atleast... and also good saving time with teleporters.
Still good game, ambiance + nostalgia from it being the first AC.
2008 release date on PC, still pretty good graphics but very repetitive game, few contents inside of it with a lot of restrictions or softlocks, bugs.

I can appreciate this game as a proof of concept, the fully animated parkour system was beyond it's time and I'm sure the technical effort it must've taken to have animated and designed it's bustling cities like Jerusalem & Damascus to accommodate it could not possibly be understatedBut as a video game I had to play? It was strikingly mid.
I'm not even super particularly against the bland, Ubisoft-checklist sort of design; if the core loop and objectives in that checklist are varied and fun to do while accommodating the game's mechanics. But they're really not, there's maybe a handful of variations of objectives, and they really only serve to push you to the next assassination, and increase health; rather than be anything ideally.. fun?
Plus, there's really not many actual mechanics to deepen with good objectives, the game itself is VERY bare in mechanics in general. It really does boil down to a very simple checklist, and it all kind of culminates into a homogeneous slog a few hours in.
As far as the story goes, oddly enough I found the Abstergo segments to be way more interesting than the plot going on for Altair, Altair as a character (in this game) kind of sucks and only has few moments growth or learning, when they arise they're interesting enough to keep the plot moving forward, but I honestly kind of tuned out.

The start of an amazing trilogy. However, the first in the series has its faults.Good
- Graphics are great, environment depict the colonial ages nicely.
- Climbing all over buildings and racing across roof tops is entertaining.
- Voice acting is good.
- The cities are lively and creates a realistic atmosphere. Especially the constant awareness you must have in order to avoid guards. The interesting to see the citizens react to your actions.
- Silent assassinations are satisfying.
- The plot is unique. The game makes the player wonder what is going to happen with the ties between the past and the present day assassins and Templars.
- The story is great. The depth of the plot sets the foundations for a great trilogy.
Bad
- Altair (main character) cannot swim. In fact, he dies as he falls in water. As an assassin, it just does not make sense.
- Missions can get repetitive. Find view points, locate and complete investigations, return to bureau. Rinse and repeat.
- Minor glitches in some parts of the game. Controls can be a bit imprecise while leaping between objects and during combat.
- The present day cut-scenes with Desmond and the animus, could have been given more emotion. The characters just seem emotionless except the doctor. Also, there is not much space you can explore in the present day world. All there is, is your bedroom and the animus room.
- It is difficult to target a specific enemy when they come in large groups.
- Lack of manual aim for throwing knives makes it impossible to throw knifes at archers on roof tops from the ground.

Es un juegazo, algo repetitivo pero nada que no valga la pena para disfrutar tan intrigante concepto como el de 2 sociedades secretas que luchan una contra la otra para llevar a cabo su visión del mundo, nada más que agregar, saludos.7/10

It's extremely repetive even at a very early stage. It's not that bad a game, it's just boring a lot of the time. Its very mediocre in many ways, placing itself in-between in most ways. The fights, for example, are a bit like hack and slash and most can be won just by hitting the same button again and again. Yet, you will still need to think a bit over how to approach the figth to win them when there are for example several enemies, just not enough to make it a tactical or skill-needing figthing game. So it's neither real hack and slash, nor gives you the freedom to make advanced moves, it's just a bit anoying in-between. In the same way, an assassination game should have some element of sneak, acrobatic skill or tactic approach, but most of the time, you will find it boring to slowly walk through until finaly you just ram through and find out that you could just have done that from the beginning, again it places itself in an annoying in-between. While you carry out a lot acrobatic stunts, "you" don't really do anything. Unlike older platforms games, the game does most of the things for you. Unlike an old platform classic like Super Mario 64 or Tomb Raider, you don't need to practice your skills and calculate how far to jump, find out just how much to pull the controller to get over the small bridge without falling down or anything like that. The game will make sure you don't fall down and almost always make the jump, and even if you don't, it doesn't really matter. Assassins Creed is a good example of how much many modern games hold your hand, leaving out all the fun of having to focus and using all your skills to win. Its repetitive and drags simple things out instead of giving real challenges. There are so many better games out there for you to use your money and time on.Updated 6 Months Ago

Assassin's Creed comes to PC, five months after its console release. It is dubbed the "Director's Cut" with additional content which just meant different and new missions compared to the console version such as throwing people into market stands instead of just sitting down and eavesdropping all the time, which was nice. Another nice feature that came with the PC port is being able to play this game at 60fps instead of being capped to 30fps like on the PlayStation 3 (and maybe even Xbox 360?). Onto the game itself. Storyline: It was a decent one, fairly basic and a lot of open-ended answers such as why Abstergo is so fixated on getting that Apple of Eden, game left on a cliff hanger after you find pentagrams and other inscriptions on the wall and floor of the room you're trapped in. Altair's story was quite interesting though and the twist in the plot was kind of foreshadowed but still a surprising one, that gets some good points in my books. Obviously this is all a set-up for Ubisoft to have an excuse to release a sequel. Gameplay: Fairly repetitive, go to this city, complete these objectives, assassinate this person and repeat. I completed the game 100% which means doing every single investigation alongside the core objectives to progress forward and also collect all the additional flags along with saving every citizen. Would've been nice to get a cool reward for it though but no. It was basically just a side quest if you really enjoyed the game or are a completionist like me. The controls were a bit funky along with the physics. On the PC, you have the choice of playing with Mouse & Keyboard or your Xbox 360 controller, I picked the second option but it did take some setting up to do. Do not play this game above 60Hz/fps otherwise you may experience weird physics due to the framerate being tied to the physics. Even at 60fps though, the game was sometimes still buggy.
The tutorial funnily enough was probably one of the hardest parts to get through in the game. Not because the tasks you were given were difficult, it's because you might have a chance of the game randomly breaking. First time I played through it, the guy that I grabbed and threw decided to fly away and never come back, stuck in this loop of repeatedly failing the mission straight away. Second time, I silently assassinated a guy and he flew across the entire room out of bounds so the other soldier that is meant to discover the body couldn't as he was stuck behind an invisible wall. Third time was the charm and allowed me to complete the game. The combat was simple but fun, having to know when to counter, when to attack with different choices of attacking the enemy: strong sword attack, light sword combo attacks or silent assassination with that hidden blade of yours. You can dodge, block or counter an attack which also gave the player more freedom in combat. Gotta give some points there as well. As for the overall movement, it was a bit tricky and confusing at times. You're trying to get Altair to grab onto this clearly grabbable ledge and he just decides to stare at it, which is more frustrating if you're in pursuit away from enemies. Sometimes he might jump onto ledges you don't want during free-run or just jump straight off a building into water.
Overall, it was a good game. Decent port and I had a fun time playing it, very invested in the game. The soundtrack was also quite good especially when you assassinated your target and that music accompanies the chase when you're in high profile mode. If you can get it for cheap then I recommend getting it, but be prepared to have to fix the game a little bit, and don't forget to turn your internet off. If you're online playing this game, you might experience stuttering whilst playing due to the game trying to connect repeatedly to non-existing online servers.

I LOVE the progression in the game. Starting out without anything really and re-ingratiating yourself to the Creed to where Malek, the one you left to die in the prologue, turns around and helps you in the end beat Al Mualim.Al Mualim as the Villain is great, kinda wish it wasnt spoiled for me tho.
Combat was the biggest snooze fest for me. sitting there holding RT with hidden blades waiting to counter was pretty boring tbh, kind of changes my perspective on the complaints about current games making you a "One Man Army".
LOVE the parkour and freedom it gives you.
Overall i would say a 8.2/10 - Solid game with potential to change after playing other titles.
