Very solid airship shooter, specially for a game from more than 20 years ago…

Controls are solid and missions are fun, even if there’s a bit of inconsistency in them in my opinion.
Game can get a bit repetitive but the mission structure allows for playing in short bursts and it become much more enjoyable this way.

Story was also fun to follow with some very very charming CGI cutscenes. very entertaining to watch.

Star of the show here was the soundtrack for me with a great orchestrated music that remembered me Star Wars and Indiana jones movies.

Overall a very fun and solid game while still a bit repetitive.

This is an almost good game. The controls really let it down, as they're very slippery and imprecise, and then towards the end of the game they start throwing way too much crap at you and it very quickly becomes too much to handle, and then on top of that they put you in an incredibly cramped space with low visibility.

Basically the entire saving grace of this game is the setting and the aesthetic, which is second to none. I want dieselpunk aviation to come back.

Great gameplay. Really cool mix of planes to suit different styles. BAMF gunplay, easy to control and satisfying to shoot down enemies. Exciting story, and awesome heroic characters. Some minor frustrations (temple not sure where to fly, cant tell the way, final boss a slight annoyance but eventually got it).

There were some enjoyable aspects of this game, but the terrible characters, storyline, and boss fights were painful. At first the world seems large, but it's not that big, just four or five disconnected zones.

Crimson Skies: HRTR attempts to be a swash buckling air pirate extravaganza set during the pre-WW2 tensions of the 1930s era. The air pirate aspect is short lived, as soon an insipid plot takes over where you're off to fighting evil Germans 101. Disregarding the crummy plot, the nuts and bolts of Crimson Skies are rather tight. The game's engine runs very well on Xbox with beautiful vistas and well modeled planes. Controls are quite tight making flight and combat a very forgiving affair. Voice acting is above average and the soundtrack is quite appropriate to the era. Unfortunately it isn't long before the repetitiousness of constant aerial dogfighting and turret shooting sets in. Mission designers realized this towards the end of the game, and you will find yourself flying through twisty caves with giant booby traps like something out of Indiana Jones. Of course no one bought Crimson Skies to fly a Tomb Raider plane but that's what happened. Ultimately Crimson Skies starts off with a lot of convincing potential, but soon enough the designers squandered it for the easy and monotonous way out.

Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge is a lot of game for the price thanks to the 12 plus hours of single player and huge potential for online fun. When compared to Midtown Madness 3 and MechAssault, there seems to be extra motivation to complete CS's single player game beyond just getting the best vehicle. The story is compelling and mission types varied enough to keep me playing way past bedtime. The multiplayer game as we got to experience it prior to release was enjoyable but a little sterile compared to what we know it's going to be when the public has at it. And as we saw with MM3 and MA, really that's when things get exciting. Strangers talking trash in the skyways with rubber chickens fluttering from their wings should be enough to move Crimson Skies up on your list of must have Xbox Live games. With no online component for Secret Weapons Over Normandy, Battlestar Galactica or any other flight-shooter, you're getting the best such experience on Xbox this pre-holiday season.
