I do catalogue the original and the remake seperately but I wonder if I should put the "replay" mark on the remake if they are similar games. That's what mainly confuses me. I don't want to double my "fresh" completion list when the games are really similar. It kind of feels like cheating as really weird as that sounds. I want my completion list to be as honest as it can but remakes that are similar to the original adds such a grey zone regarding all of this, especially those that take the 1990s Psycho movie approach, it's why I even made this thread at all despite me never making a forum thread prior to this.

With stuff like the upcoming Soul Reaver remasters and MGS3 Delta? Maybe I should put the replay mark on them or maybe I shouldn't.

In my case, since every completion goes to the complete list regardless, I don't sweat it.

Still if it's like... Ocarina of Time on 3DS, that got the replay mark since I played the n64 version and they are VERY similar. Same for Majora's. In the case of Link's Awakening, I would have put that mark if I finished the original, though it's like on the limit. FF VII remake? Get out of here, that's a different game

Zelda and Grand Theft Auto off the top of my head. Zelda for being a series that never really excelled at anything it tried to do nor does it do anything better than other games. Everything the Zelda series does I can name another game that does it what it does better. Combat isn't that great, level design is nothing special, and the puzzles aren't very interesting. This goes for both linear and open world Zelda. I really do think if many of these Zelda games came out today, not many would even like them or have the following they do now. I had to force myself to finish every mainline Zelda I played except BOTW, that game started to bore when I got into combat or did a main quest.

Grand Theft Auto is just a series that is basically popular for how "edgy" the game are more so than actually being good, it's not really all that different from the early Mortal Kombat games except at least MK has interesting lore and characters. GTA games never did open world better than other games. It's do scripted missions and have open world be completely open. The driving and car chases are the best parts of these games but the on foot gameplay is boring, dull and is lacking mechanically. As much as I criticize Jak 2 and 3 to death at least the on foot gameplay in them are kind of fun since it has the movement system of Precursor Legacy. Every time I play a GTA game game I'm either frustrated, bored or wish I was playing other games instead. GTA 3 was a frustrating mess when you got off the first island and GTA 5 is a game I wished I never finished at all, Rockstar's mission design might as well just have it be a cinematic linear game. Saints Row at least has better combat since it's basically just the same combat system as Volition's Punisher game.

Outside of those, I'll casually throw in Borderlands and Dishonored, the BL games are unbearbly padded and I hate the looter shooter stuff they popularized. I never liked it in the BL games either since I would rather just have them be straight up shooters than have all that RPG stuff. Dishonored's stealth mechanics are just complete garbage and I would rather play either Thief or Dark Messiah instead even if the latter is unpolished beyond belief. I never really cared for the "immersive sim" style of design which to me is just much like GTA, "do 3-4 things and do it with mediocre execution".

I'll admit, these franchises, probably have their appeal but they just never appealed to me due to the reasons I mentioned.

Those are the two off the top of my head, I would shove in series like Assassin's Creed and Uncharted among some others but I do at the very least enjoy some of the games in those franchises despite me thinking those said games are just decent.

As a Zelda fun I have to say... Fair enough xD

I have to say I'm not sure what exactly pulled me into the series in the first place. Probably because the setting?? The inhabitants of Hyrule? Maybe Link from OoT, I remember being a kid and loving my wooden sword and the toy bow and arrow. Anyway, even if I inow each game has its faults, something they do (or a combination of all they do) just... Works for me. Except Zelda II, I can't for the life of me finish that one.

Now, for games that are popular and can't for the life of me get into... The Witcher III (is it the muted colors?? The higher fidelity?? How muddy it looks on the PS4?) is a game I tried and I just can't like. Also Genshin Impact. I do not enjoy it being a gacha game as a service at all. I like the characters, sure. But the amount of grinding you have to do, plus having a daily limit, plus the gacha making no sense story wise... Yeah, pass. I think BotW has a simplicity plus an art style I enjoy that the two aforementioned games lack. No levels, I can grind for materials if I want, or just get better at combat, or avoid it as much as possible.

Oh also. Persona 5. I've ranted ad nauseum about everything I dislike about it. But yeah, fuck it. It might be stylish, but the story and characters (specially the characters) just ain't it for me. I do enjoy Persona 4 though.

Well, if I have to choose between games, books, movies, series, etc. games and book are my top go to.

Media that I can consume passively kinda wears me down and leaves me numb and tired. But books and games are more engaging, books because I imagine the scene play out in my mind, and games because it is easier to get immersed into the world and feel like you are going on an adventure.

And well, I like that games give you a challenge and/or freedom of choice :3

To be fair, it is not outright said that Hugo loves Yves romantically , you have to read between the lines a bit. Actually if you take into account that relivers can't feel powerful emotions like love without going full short-circuit , so Hugo dying in that route out of that extreme pain that caused him to carve out with own chest/heart makes all the sense in the world. Hugo loved Yves, was both jealous of Ceres and hated her because she was the reason Yves face was like that, and yet she had the audacity to take Yves away from him. Hugo even held her at... sword point? And the mix between anger and sadness and jealousy was the thing that ended him.

Also, if you replay some scenes with this in mind it kinda clicks

To be fair, uni got in the way... And I got distracted by other stuff, like new books (because just a game backlog wasn't enough)

Hopefully I'll make more of a dent on my backlog in June! I'm already almost done with a big one, and I have my sight set on a bunch of smaller titles too :)

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - Hijiyama and Okino (like someone already mentioned). But far my favorite pairing in the game, and probably the one with the most chemistry.

Virche Evermore: Error Salvation - A side character is head over heels over one of the main bachelors. I kinda feel bad by playing Yves' route, since not only you snatch him from Hugo, but also something rather unfortunate happens to Hugo

Hustle Cat - this one is interesting, since I have the sneaking suspicion that it was first conceived as an Otome (since most bachelors are male except for one), but later turned into Amare (they made it so you can pick the gender of MC as male, female or non-binary). Anyways, it is a very sweet game, and all of the love interest were build with love (which doesn't always happen)

Steins; Gate / Steins; Gate 0 - Lukako is the cutest, most beautiful girl... Except they were born a guy. Okabe's dumb moments after certain event aside after that d-mail where Luka's gender was changed to female and he kinda had to prove it... *Sigh*... Okabe is the one that calls her "Lukako" (names in Japanese ending with "ko" are more feminine). While others think it is disrespectful since Luka "is a boy", I feel Okabe was the first one to accept Lukako in a way? Also, Lukako does hang out more with the other girls and wears more cutesy clothes in 0, which makes me happy because she looks happy :3
The one sad thing is [time travel mega spoiler in 0] Luka ends up discarding femininity in that timeline after the war starts to protect the others, and even gives their life (though is able to meet Okabe on their fonal moments)

Ngl, the release schedule of games I want to play would probably catch up to me in no time, and replaying games is always an option.
I would probably have all my experience in games leak even more to the rest of my life, be it in form of home deco, arts and crafts or huge rabbit holes (there's actually some vids I want to make about those).

You should be able to see any game on your backlog lists whether they've been added to the HLTB database or not.

To my knowledge, there's a rule. Like that a game has to be added to the backlog of two different users, or has to be completed by one user.

I started it today.
I bought this game a couple years ago via DLsite, this Japanese store. Glad the GOTM pushed me to finally actually boot it up for once. Though it took me a while to actually get it running because it looks like the version that is sold on DLsite is like an original, early version that doesn't run well on modern Windows these days. lol
Well, I got it working eventually and clicked my way through some first bits and pieces. I'm glad I never actually looked into it too much when it was at the height of its popularity online, so I'm going in mostly blind. I know there is something like a "true plot" that's only revealed later or when you go down a certain path, which I'm expecting to maybe have a bit of a darker tone, but I don't actually know any details at all. Right now I'm really enjoying the absurd writing and the variety in pigeon types.

Anyway, I love pigeons and I actually just befriended a pigeon pair IRL that keep visiting my window pretty much daily right now. So, if I ever get stuck, I can ask them for dating tips.

Played my first session. Can't say I'm enjoying it too much maybe due to not playing alot of dating Sims so maybe I'm missing alot of the humour but for now it just feels like an absurd premise which needs to be more over the top as although the fact I'm setting myself up to conquer the world in shadows and live in a cave is rather absurd. From the length I might as well complete a single run through and see if there is a skip functionality

And there is a skip function, so it doesn't take long to get to different routes.

Well, my wallet just took a really heavy shot and is in the emergency room
I spent 106.930 CLP (161,5 USD) on around 35 games (and a gift for my sister)
My backlog was already a mighty foe, but now I'ts becoming unkillable

Also, I envy you, past me. It's been a while since the dollar's been that cheap! 106.930CLP are now closer to 90-95USD 😭
