I've enjoyed this adventure like a kid, it's great to reconnect with a video game that was so important in your childhood. Just play and enjoy.

Kid friendly point-and-click nostalgic game about nostalgia itself. Cute, funny, and very well made. Exceptional art style -- although MI purists apparently effing hate it. The inventory puzzles are reasonably fair, unlike older adventure games.

Too bad this is the only Monkey Island game I've played, as most of the time I felt like I was eavesdropping on other peoples' inside jokes. (Imagine The Rise Of Skywalker being the only Star Wars movie you ever see.) It also helped me acknowledge why point-and-click games aren't popular anymore: Technology simply evolved to make games more interactive and immersive and interesting.

Probably scores a 9 if you're already a Monkey Island superfan. An 8 if you're just looking to play a game together with your kids. A 7 if neither of those are true.

It started out really good, and despite being sceptical about the art style it felt nice to return to Melee Island. But by Act 4 I was getting quite bored, there was a lot of backtracking and I ended up just using the hint system and rushed towards the end to get the story. The ending and the last act felt a little rushed I guess. I think I've fell out of love with the Point and click genre. I didn't really enjoy this that much, and even less Broken Age and Thimbleweed Park.

Forgot how tedious some of the backtracking could be - Chapter 4, I’m looking at you. And it doesn’t play as well with a controller as the originals did on a PC. Still, a good bit of nostalgia.

This was a really fun nostalgia-based game. I loved the first two games, and this had the same energy as they did. Good jokes, great puzzles, and a fun, escapist story. There was talk when this first released of the art direction being poor, but I thought the game looked great. Again, holding up visuals from the first few games but brining a new look and feel to the animations. The one spot I thought the game fell down was in character development and interaction. It is a comedy where characters aren't the first priority, but it became disappointing over time to learn about and interact with characters who vanished by the end of the game without any further development. Guybrush's arc itself suffers from the same issues. Having experienced his faults and reinforcing his awful behaviour, there is no growth or consequence. Even when confronted by Elaine, it is played off as a joke, which is funny in the moment, but leaves the very end, which is poignant, feeling somewhat empty.

O've first played 'The Secret of Monkey Island' and 'Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge' prior to begin with the 'Return to Monkey Island'. I had a blast playing this and laughed out loud on the jokes. Highly recommend to play at least the two first games before you play this one. They introduced the scrapbook to have a shirt recap if you played the previous games a long time a go (or never touched those). Some puzzles were unclear but in general they made more sense than the ones in earlier games. For the times you are stuck and no where to go there is a hint book that doesn't give the answer away all at once. Took my time and completed the game in 15 hours. One of the few games I completed this year, so that says a lot in my case.

[I had to play through this one as i have already played the first ones. It was the special editions tho. The art/design style seems more in line with the original but upgraded to HD. The Gameplay is standard point-and-click, and WASD does nothing in this game.
You get a checklist, this is the only objective you can access tho out the game. The interactive/combat is more or less the same as in previous games. Oh, you will get a hint book called "The Book of hints". This is useful when you're stuck.
The story doesn't meet the expectations of the previous games, but it's decent.
It's interesting, and it kept me interested. The Story conclusion was kinda lackluster, but they did almost the same in "LeChuck's Revenge".
I encountered no performance or bug issues during my playthrough

Rather than a modern Monkey Island for the new generations, this is a nostalgia inducing love letter to the fans. And it's not just a speculation, in the game there is a letter from the developers that specifically says so.

That being said, it is a good game. The UI is modern, graphics are nice, there isn't anything really missing.
The story is, IMHO, its sore point. I mean, it's an ok story, the humour is there and there is everything that made Monkey Island great, and maybe that's the issue, because there isn't anything else. It's a series of references one after another. It is enjoyable for us longterm fans, but I would have hoped more.

That being said, it's an ok game even for newcomers, as even if you don't know the past the game does a good job in letting you imagine it. But it's not a great game, in that case.

Still solid.

A funny game that I cracked up in some of their conversation lines. I love the puzzles of the game. And if you feel somehow stuck, the game contains a hints book. This way the game helps to avoid dropping it and forgetting about it for ages. An entertaining story for those that we've played the first and the second games.

I had low expectations for this game as Monkey Island holds a very special place in my heart and the last two ventures into that world left me dissapointed. However, this game manages to hit all the marks that made monkey island monkey island. Most important of which is its ability to make me laugh.
And while I wasn't sold on the visual style at first, it grew on me over time.

If you like monkey island then you'll like this.

Return to Monkey Island is a return to classic point and click adventure type games. As someone who hasn't played the previous Monkey Island games, I was a little bit lost on some of the references the game had but they often weren't essential to the story, however, the trivia questions were not somethign I even attempted. The puzzles in the game were often fun and it was nice being able to jump around to focus on other puzzles anytime I hit a dead end. Some of the puzzle solutions are a little obtuse but the hint system in the game is actually quite nice especially the last puzzle in the game. The game has a little bit of a lackluster ending but the game still holds up all the way through.

Maybe the Curse of Monkey Island™ is having an underwhelming final chapter in every game.

But aside from that, another fantastic entry in the series. Super glad this exists and I had a blast going on another adventure with Guybrush. The game is maybe a tiny bit too reliant on fan service, but humour and puzzles were top notch and that's what it's all about.

A nice return to the Monkey Island series. I never played the episodic ones but have fond memories of the 90s games. The art style takes a bit to get used to but you don't notice once you get over an hour into the game. The first part of the game is a little too hand holding but is meant to be a tutorial so don't let it discourage you.

The rest of the game has some nice puzzling, good characters, and a story worth playing. I was not a fan of the ending but I never fault creators for their creative decisions as long as it at least feels like an ending.

Anyone a fan of point and click adventures should try this for sure.

This is pretty much everything I wanted from a Monkey Island sequel.

It's filled with references, I probably didn't get all of them because I only played Monkey Island 1, 2 and Tales, but I never felt like I missed out on anything.

The game features a lot of recurring characters. I would have liked to have seen Morgan LeFlay again, she got mentioned so often in this game that I was sure she would show up somewhere... :( I was happy that I got to interact with Stan and Elaine, they were perfect! My favourite new character was Flambe, he had a cool quirk and voice. I just really like the cast in general.

Puzzles are on-point. Towards the end I started making use of the hint system more; Part IV has kind of an open world feel but that just means a lot of back-and-forth if you don't know what you have to do, which can be a hastle. I didn't mind so much because by this point I'm so used to the gameplay, but it's kinda old school, could have been a little tighter. It made it hard to take a break in Part IV because I would come back and forget what problem I had been trying to solve - so that's where the hint system helped me a lot, just to remember what I was doing lol.

Music - good.
Art style - takes some getting used to.
Boybrush - fine.
Ending - take it or leave it.

All in all this was a satisfying experience, one that I can't wait to replay.

As far as adventure games go, Return to Monkey Island is one of them. With the exception of the devilish pirate ship setup, little about it is particularly yarrr-some. The inclusion of an ingame hintbook is a questionable one. It shimmers like a jewel, seducing you into a little peek instead of running around aimlessly in search of one fruitful item. For the most part, the hints are done well -- doled out in pieces, depending on how much help is needed -- but nevertheless remain a poor substitute for fair, well-designed and integrated puzzles.

Furthermore, the previous Monkey Island games might have been classics, but are too antiquated at this point to justify the large number of callbacks. Elaine might be as glamorous as ever, but the rest of us have become a tad greyer since we first visited Monkey Island.

This game is amazing, I haven't felt this joyful when playing a game since Mario Odyssey. It is the best combination of new and old, and it is a love letter to all the series' fans. Unfortunately this means that it cannot be enjoyed by people who haven't played the previous games (expecially the first two), but I did :)
I love the artwork, it's so fresh and colourful and detailed. Everything is perfect, from the locations to the scores, to the puzzles, to the characters, to the dialogues, to the humour. Someone could say that it's too easy, and in fact I think it's the easiest of the series, but I think that this is only because all the puzzles make 100% sense and everything is straight to the point and makes it easier for the player to enjoy himself; also there is none of that unimmaginable crap bullshit puzzles that make no sense, it is made just to be an enjoyable fun cozy adventure. And it's perfect.
The ending, when he sits on the bench, wraps everything up perfectly. And the letter at the end of the storybook almost made me cry.
10/10 absolute masterpiece

Return to Monkey Island mi ha convinto molto.

Nonsensical puzzles, weird artstyle, pointless story and a lot of hollow jokes. The ending sucks too. There could have been a great game out of this, but in the end it reminds me of LeChuck's Revenge. Full of backtracking, hopping between the islands and doing the same thing for the umpteenth time just because it used to be fine in the 90's. The included hintbook is absolutely indispensable, as with the original games and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth in the end. So many questions unanswered. Guess it was always meant to be that way. But that also means that there are many better adventure games out there. A shame, if you ask me.

I was really nervous about this game before I played it, worried it was gonna be a bad game. The art style was off-putting and it seemed to be banking on the "remember this!" concepts, milking nostalgia. I almost didn't buy it but I bit the bullet anyway and it turns out I was worried for nothing. This is an absolutely great game and Monkey Island through and through. I still don't love the art but the game is so cozy and enjoyable that it makes that really easy to overlook. If you love the classic games, you'll almost certainly love this one. I rarely buy games on release date and when I do, I'm usually a little disappointed. Not here. It was worth the price. Really glad I dove right in.

After decades of believing that we’d never see Gilbert get to make his Monkey Island 3, I was in no way disappointed with Return’s conclusion. In fact, it moved me, and made clear that Gilbert cares as much about these characters as we fans do. I expected Return to Monkey Island to be funny. I expected it to have good and often-zany puzzles and hilarious puzzle solutions. You can see that in its writing, its acquired-taste art style, and its delightfully upbeat music. But I didn’t expect it to have such heart. Monkey Island has been known almost solely for its comedic prowess over the past three decades, but Return reminded me of why I first fell in love with Guybrush Threepwood in a way that will have me thinking about it for a long time. What longtime fans get out of it is definitely going to be markedly different from what newcomers take away from it, but I can say that Return to Monkey Island meant a lot to me before I ever clicked to start a New Game, and it meant far more after the end credits rolled.
