Much better than D6, but not sure it's as good as D5. I didn't do as many of the optional systems as I have in the past in previous games, so might return to it.Updated 1.5 Weeks Ago

There was a time where I could spend hundreds of hours in Disgaea games. I think this one would be no different if I had more time but at the same time, it is all pretty much the same at this point. I think I like this one's conservative gameplay mechanics compared to its predecessors. They eliminated most of the tedium in how the stages were made. There is much less "No Lifting" and "Enemy Boost" in this one to force you to play a specific unfun way. The core mechanics of power progression were simplified which makes it less overwhelming to the casual gamer like I've become.
After playing the first few disgaeas, the stories pretty much all blend together, and I personally don't find them very interesting. Fortunately they can be skipped.
My young hardcore gamer self would have given it a 9, but my current old dad casual gamer give it a 7.
