The Game That Got You Into Gaming.

Anyone remember their first gaming memory of what game got into games? Personally, I remember I had a Nintendo 64 and when I was 3-4 years old I played Super Mario 64 at the end of the N64's lifespan when Gamecube and Xbox was big. I was amazed by the graphics, the perfect controls and the immersive world. This was before I played Super Mario World on an actual SNES and loved the game so much that I have been gaming ever since. Hell, I still have my N64 and Cart of Mario 64! Although I must admit I do play it more on emulator now. What's your game that made you a gamer?

Pole Position and Monty On The Run on the Commodore 64 were the first games I remember obsessing over. Later on, most of my gaming time was in arcades when I was a kid, so really anything that was available ... so many weird games that were terrible, but I gave them my coins either way. =)

Hard to pinpoint a single game, since I've been playing for most of my life as well as had ups and downs in how much I would play. One of, if not the first game I remember playing was Super Mario Bros. with my Dad on his NES. However up until I got my PS2 I don't remember gaming too often. With the PS2 I remember I began to game a bit more frequently, although there wasn't one particular game on the system that began this that I can remember. Around 8th grade my gaming was beginning to die down, until my friends got me into the Call of Duty series. I then entered a stage where I almost exclusively played Call of Duty games (although I did play a couple other games on the rare occasion). I will give the Assassin's Creed series credit for re-expanding my horizons and making me interested in other games that weren't First Person Shooters again and opening me up to playing the variety of game I play now. I would also like to give a shout out to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for making me realize that gaming is a hobby I want to keep on partaking in, as for some reason before then I felt that I'd eventually have it give it up. I also give Ocarina of Time credit for making me appreciate every aspect of games more, ranging from their soundtracks, level design, stories, etc.

The first game I owned was Pokemon Stadium for the N64. I also remember watching my sister playing Warcraft II, so when I saw a Warcraft III Battle Chest with TFT expansion I beg my mom to get it for me. I think I was like 8-9 at the time.

I loved WIII and I played the hell out of it, including online multiplayer and homebrew maps. So I'm pretty much hyped for the HD remake

In terms of proper games, it's cliche but Pokémon Ruby. I don't think it was the first game I got or even played on my Game Boy Advance -- which was my first real dedicated games machine -- but it definitely made the largest impression and colored the choices of younger me. However, that's not to say I only started playing games when I got a GBA; since I was really young, I played Disney CD-ROM games on my computer. Obviously, young me cared only about Disney, so he wasn't aware of other games one could play on computers at the time, nor did he care. I still care about Disney a lot, of course, but I've diversified my portfolio of interests. As for which of those might have been my first... I honestly have no clue. Probably something with Winnie the Pooh, if I were to guess.

I didn't have a contemporary system until I got the PS1 in 1999 (when I was 10), so I got to experience lots of different games from different eras, both at home and at friends.

We owned a Pong, which was built in to a TV. We also had a computer which could play 5 1⁄4-inch floppy disks - my favourite game on it was a version of Spacewar!
Then my father bought a Philips Videopac. Gunfighter and a bowling game was the most played there. The latter was the first game I ever got my mother to play (the other ones only being Tekken 2 and a hilarious session of FlatOut 2, where she was shrieking with laughter, crashing into every wall).

My best friend had a NES. Super Mario Bros., Ice Hockey and The Legend of Zelda were completely mindblowing after having played 70s and early 80s games at home (in the mid 90s, lol).

Then he got a computer (NHL '98, Rise of the Triad), my uncle got a computer (Prince of Persia, Outlaws) and my interest spiraled out of control from there.

The games I originally had were Missile Command, Asteroids, Combat, Pac-Man, Pole Position and Outlaw.

Then I got a Commodore 64 in 1988. My favourite game being Montezuma's Revenge.

But, it wasn't until I got a SEGA Mega Drive in 1992 that I became a video game fan for life.

The two games that really got me into gaming were Streets of Rage and NHLPA Hockey 93.

I've been playing games my entire life. We had an Atari was I was a kid, then I remember we got a Nintendo for Christmas with Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt was the first and only game my dad ever played. Doom was the first game I played over a modem and I used to play with my friend Alan. When I was in high school I really started getting into certain games, and Final Fantasy VII was the first I remember becoming a bit obsessed over, soon to be followed by Diablo II and Starcraft.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

I find myself thinking about this topic a lot actually! According to my parents, the first game I played was Commander Keen when I was like a year old, and I called it Anger Keen. The first game that really got me into gaming however is hard for me to nail down. My favorite games growing up were Pokemon (Had Blue version first), Kirby Superstar, Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (just up to Gohma really, could barely get past that and when I did, I'd just start over because I loved the intro so much), and Super Smash Brothers on N64. I always loved Mega Man X and the X games on the Playstation, although I was more in love with the characters there than the actual games (too hard for me at the time!). I remember at recess we'd 'play Megaman 13' and so on. Oh, and toss in Crash and Spyro. I played all those amazing games, but I wouldn't really say I was "Into Gaming" yet, at least as much as I am now, although I was determined that I wanted to make games when I grew up as I thought it was the only job in the world where I'd get to be around them. Next generation I was obsessed with Super Smash Brothers Melee, and loved Kingdom Hearts and Spider-Man 2. It wasn't until highschool that I really grew into my love for gaming though, as in that generation I played Super Mario Galaxy 2 which made me realize a love for 100% completing games. I also was given a laptop for use in classes, which of course was actually used for playing games I got through the first humble bundles, like Super Meat Boy and the Binding of Isaac. There I realized my love for especially challenging platformers and the like, and an interest in the indie scene in general (Missed out on 360 summer of arcade and all that as I didn't get a 360 or PS3 until pretty late in their life-cycle). When I finally did get a PS3, it was mostly for the infamous games, which a friend had shown me. I got deep into platinum-ing games there, like the Assassin's Creeds, and eventually was also introduced to Call of Duty (took me long enough) with Modern Warfare 2. It wasn't until Call of Duty: Black Ops however that I got especially into competetive online games, and I played that one for WAY too long. Early on in college I finally hit peak love for gaming, as I found video game focused podcasts like IGN's Podcast Beyond and The Giant Bombcast. I realized that, while I still enjoyed making games and stuff like I did back with Multimedia Fusion 2, Little Big Planet 1 & 2, and Garry's Mod, maybe that whole time I thought I wanted to make games I actually would have preferred just talking about them as I always had done with my friends at school. The podcasts also introduced me to all kinds of incredible games that I'd never heard of like Uncharted 2, and having started working jobs starting back in highschool, I finally had the disposable income to really get out there and try a little bit of everything. So I guess Uncharted 2 marks the first time I was fully into gaming? It's really the podcasts that got me into gaming most of all, though. Whew. Long story. Anyways, now I'm determined to keep trying and beating everything that's supposed to be great or important to gaming, and I'm using my profile here to track it all. According to my math I'll actually catch up on my backlog in like 3 years, though it does keep growing (like how I just added like 11 dragon quest games to the list, oops).

Diablo 2 on PC is what really got me into gaming. I had played a little bit of other things here and there....but when I played that I got hooked!

Got a SNES at fairly young age and I remember playing it a lot. The SNES came with Super Mario World so that was probably it for me. Never really stopped after that.

Lego star wars 2 on the playstation 2 got me really into gaming. It was the first game I owned. Up until that point I didn't have a console, only plug and play games so it was a real step up.

My parents had an NES when I was a kid and my mom has often told me I would stay up late playing Super Mario Bros. when I was 4-5 years old...so I've been gaming ever since. 25+ years now.

Well i guess it will have to be Sonic Jam on the Saturn. It was a collection of the first 4 sonic games and was probably the first game i ever got. Still have it somewhere and i think it was a good start to my gaming journey

About the topic, it is hard to remember exactly which game was.
In a console, I have almost certain it was Missile Command in Atari 2600... but also I have very old memories of to be playing some prehistoric arcade game in malls...
