We're getting near to Christmastime and the year is nearly over and so comes and goes another gaming month. Post your wins for the month here!

Anyways, I'll start. 6 Total completions which is great although a lot of the stuff I played was short.

Serious Sam 4: 11/05
Time: 7:25:08
Rating: 10/10 (RUNNER UP)

Probably in the end is going to be my game of the year choice for 2020 and if not one of the absolute best I played this year. I waited nearly a whole entire decade for this game to come out and it finally has come and I finally completed it this month and my god Croteam absolutely did not disappoint with this game. It takes every Sam game ever made thus far and perfects it. The best gameplay in the series yet, the most epic story with some excellent characters including John J. Dick himself as Sam yet again in a awesome performance. The music is orgasmic, the graphics really good, this feels like a total and well needed evolution of the Serious Sam series thus far and every moment I cherished. It also brings us to a point where there is a multiverse introduced and probably hints that Serious Sam 3: BFE is non canon now as it took place in future Sam's world and not the Sam we know in this game. Absolutely amazing in every single regard and it proves Croteam are still the masters of the old school FPS genre. Serious Sam 4 is an instant classic I will be replaying constantly as with the rest of the series.

Little Big Planet 2: 11/08
Time: 4:28:41
Rating: 10/10 (BEST)

Okay, this might end up actually being the best game I played all year and for good reason. LBP 2 is Media Molecule's magnum opus and every moment is absolute perfection and I will never be satisfied with platforming games ever again as this is the absolute best the genre has to offer. With some of the most memorable characters I have come across in a game like this, the story feels like a Disney Renaissance film and a fantastic one at that even if it does feel typical. The gameplay is the biggest improvement to a game I've ever seen like HOLY CRAP! The gadgets are all fun, every world gets better and better, the graphics are outstanding, the game mechanics absolutely fun. This is something you do NOT want to miss. The greatest Playstation Console exclusive I've played thus far.

Little Big Planet PS Vita: 11/10
Time: 3:00:00 (Estimate)
Rating: 8/10

At worst this feels like an expansion to Little Big Planet 2 put onto the Vita as it's basically the same game with the same gadgets, same gameplay, same types of levels, etc. The only difference is that they added the Vita's hardware features to it and the characters and story are nowhere near as memorable. It's a bit disappointing in this regard but even then I did end up enjoying it even if it was just the same game put onto the Vita.

Astro's Playroom: 11/12
Time: 1:29:16
Rating: 9/10

The best use of console hardware I've ever seen and it impressed me more than actual 4K Gaming. This was an absolute treat as this felt like a Nintendo game put onto a Playstation console and I feel this game is what Playstation exceeds at: General Audience games that anyone can pick up and play. The graphics are great, the gameplay is awesome, the use of the Dualsense controller is freaking fantastic in every single regard. The only major flaw is that once you die all the enemies respawn which is annoying considering the combat is not very fun. One of the best launch titles I've ever played for a system.

ABZU (Replay): 11/23
Time: 1:10:23
Rating: 10/10

Not much to say on this replay but it's still just as emotionally affective as it was on the first playthrough. Giant Squid truly believes video games are an art form and this proves it. Awesome!

Journey: 11/23
Time: 1:12:47
Rating: 10/10

The third game I've ever given a genuine perfect score to meaning no flaws, cons or negatives were found. This absolutely blew me away and it left me on the verge of tears after finishing it. If you haven't played Journey, you're missing out on one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time and you absolutely have to play it. Run, don't walk to get this amazing game! One of the best games I've ever experienced.

I did a lot of gaming this month thanks to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, but not a lot of completing... Oh well.

11/03 Pokémon Sword: The Crown Tundra (NS) • 14:17
11/28 Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (NS) • 8:46

Since DKC2 is one of my favorite games, it obviously gets the nod for best game of the month. The Crown Tundra was merely okay. DLC about catching legendary Pokémon would be much more satisfying if the act of catching legendary Pokémon wasn't so arduous.

Feels like forever, all the way back in July actually, since I've actually completed a game. Updates and events in endless/multiplayer games had me swamped through most of the autumn season. Felt really nice to actually complete some games again this month even if a couple of them were long-term projects.

11/01 - A Mortician's Tale
11/02 - Helltaker
11/06 - Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
11/08 - Hatoful Boyfriend
11/24 - Layers of Fear 2
11/25 - Luna
11/29 - Nekopara Vol. 4
11/30 - Temtem

Best - A lot of good ones this month. Helltaker, Layers of Fear 2, and Nekopara Vol 4 all get my vote for best this month
Layers of Fear 2 was a good follow up to the first game, even if not perfect, it still scratched that weird horror itch I've been looking for.
Helltaker was such off the wall fun that I wish it was more than just an hour or so long and blew my mind for a free indie game.
Nekopara Vol. 4 was a release I'd been waiting for for a while, and bought almost on release day just to blow right through it in excitement.

Worst - Temtem. Not a bad game overall, but compared to the rest of my completions this month I was less than impressed. I stalled on "finishing" this game for a long time, just because it was so much more of a chore than I expected it to be.

2020-11-13 - Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (PC) - 12h16m - 4/5

2020-11-26 - Hollow Knight (PC) - 31h23m - 5/5 - Replay

Best: Hollow Knight
Worst: none of these games are bad, they are all fantastic but the least amount of fun I had with Chaos;Child.

HUGE month for me. Of course, many of these hours were actually played in September and October.

Happy gaming in December everyone!

The only game I beat this month was PS4's God of War. I didn't like it at first, but by the end of it I really enjoyed the story and the combat (for the most part). Unless God of War 9 turns out to be a bust, I will try to get it on PS5 ASAP. Very good, I like God of War, one of best games on PS4.

Anyhow, I basically abandoned my backlog for awhile, so don't expect to see anything but some ESO DLC in the near future.

Aliens VS Predator (2010) - 17h55m / 100% (9 playthroughs)
Doorways: Prelude - 3h25m / 100% (2 playthroughs) - REPLAY
Doorways: The Underworld - 3h40m / 100% (2 playthroughs) - REPLAY
Far Cry - 15h55m / 100% - REPLAY
Putrefaction 2: Rumble in the Hometown - 2h / 100% - WORST
Putrefaction 2: Void Walker - 9h / 100% (2 playthroughs)
Quantum Break - 16h30m / 100% (2 playthroughs) - BEST

Highlights of this month: Far Cry still being one of the greatest games in the franchise und undeserving of the outcast label, Putrefaction 2: Void Walker being the best poor man's Doom (2016) ever made by one single person and Quantum Break for having the most engaging combat mechanics, although I didn't get quite enough of it.

Mixed bag: Both entries of the Doorways franchise, if you've played at least one horror walking sim, you won't find anything unique here. Aliens VS Predator (2010) stood out with the Alien / Predator campaigns, but the Marine segment was some of the worst I've seen in an FPS.

The rest: the standalone DLC for Putrefaction 2 is, despite its "fair" price tag, an unworthy addition to the obscure budget FPS series and has not much going for it, it's almost the complete opposite of the base game.

November was a good month, covering several genres including some that I don't play that often (puzzle, horror, shmup, and farming).

556. 11/13: Ys Seven (PSP, 2010) - review
557. 11/16: DARQ (PC, 2019) - review

Most gaming time was spend playing Among Us and Phasmophobia with friends in November.

11/08 - The Temple of No - No Time
11/08 - Rusty Lake Hotel - 1h 46m
11/09 - Starting the Game - 15m
11/10 - Innunaki Tunnel - 56m
11/20 - Pokémon Crystal - 24h 06m (Until credit roll after 8 badges and first Top 4 beaten)
11/28 - Donut County - 1h 36m

Revisiting Pokémon Crystal really revitalized my love for (classic) Pokémon games. I'm still going through the aftergame stuff - getting the 8 Kanto badges and beating the Top 4 a second time - and it's so much fun. Really reminded me why gen 2 was always my favorite in a way.
Inspired by that I went out looking at the vast sea of Pokémon ROM hacks again and found this really interesting one called Pokémon Orange that uses the gen 2 engine but adds all Pokémon up to gen 7 and provides a completely original region and plot based on the orange islands of the tv show. Really looking forward to trying that once I'm completely done with Crystal.

Kind of a small month for me, particularly compared to October. Just four games, but the two on the middle took a bit of time to actually beat, so makes sense.

Ikaruga - Nov 11
Steins;Gate Linear Bounded Phenogram - Nov 15
Pokemon Black 2 - Nov 24
OldTV - Nov 25

I spent a lot of time on Smash online with friends in the final weeks too, so that was were a lot of my gaming time went to. Good games, though! Would recommend them all! (Actually just noticed I gave them all an 8....Huh. Neat)

Nov 08 - Devious Dungeon
Nov 09 - Kamiko
Nov 13 - Genshin Impact's 1st Chapter
Nov 21 - Zelda BotW - The Champion's Ballad DLC
Nov 23 - not really a completion, but this is the day WoW Shadowland's expansion came out so I considered Battle of Azaroth completed.

This wasn't a good month for me. Played a lot of MMO/Multiplayer and the single player games I'm going through are pretty lengthy. I'm expecting to be completing FFXII Revenant Wings, DQB 2 and Twilight Princess in December.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line - Oct. 03 - Nov. 06, 14:07 - Not bad for what it was but irritating at points
I am Dead - Oct. 16 - Nov. 13, 11:16 - Such a sweet and laid-back experience
Super Mario Odyssey - Oct. 07 - Nov. 21, - A great game and so nice to finally finish a main-series Mario game
Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! - Nov. 24, 2:38 - Just a cute little pirate point-and-click

Only one completion from me, but damn, it's a victorious one.

[Nov 15] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Playtime: 309h | (10/10): This was quite the journey. I started this playthrough back when the Nintendo Switch just launched and after almost four years, I was finally able to complete this juggernaut of a game to 100%. Even though I broke my promise of not using a guide, because the last 13 koroks would have broken me otherwise, this is a HUGE achievement to me. As for the game itself, I think it has the best open-world of any game I've ever seen. No other game gives you this much freedom. It allows you to explore the world the way you want and doesn't force you to continue with the main quest at any point. Even though, this setup doesn't allow for proper storytelling, I'm glad they took the risk.

Like last month, I finished 6 games - but this time, all games were short, qualifying as either micro-size or small-size on my scale.

02-Nov-2020 - Sam & Max 105: Reality 2.0 (PC) - 03H19M
05-Nov-2020 - Green (2020) (Android) – 1H35M
13-Nov-2020 - Art of Murder: Deadly Secrets (PC) - 02H13M
19-Nov-2020 – The Darkness II (PC) - 08H29M
23-Nov-2020 - Sam & Max 106: Bright Side of the Moon (PC) - 03H15M
30-Nov-2020 - Art of Murder: The Secret Files (PC) - 02H23M

The theme of the month was playing games in a series that I started before. Somehow I found myself playing mainly adventure and puzzle games. "The Darkness II" was the exception - I never played the first one - but I started it the month before so had to finish it.

I finished two "Art of Murder" games. Five were made: Three were proper point&click and two were basically Hidden Object games. Those HOGs are the two I played this month. They were a real problem to get working as they do not work on Windows 7 or 10 and I had to pull some old XP laptop and do all kind of tricks with Steam Client to get them going. They were also AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL.

The Darkness II was good but for some reason didn't do it for me. It was rather a liner game and while the upgrades were fun, it was hard to like any of the characters and therefore I was emotionally detached from the game.

Finally - The last Two Sam & Max of season 1 were a mixed bag. Episode 5 was very good, top knots game - the best of season one and worth a few prizes. Episode 6 was on the other end ordinary and it's a shame that the season finale was uninspiring. So my vote for the month goes to "Sam & Max 105: Reality 2.0" - it gives a nod to so much nostalgia of my childhood - from Mario Bros to Dungeons and Dragons - that anyone of that age is going to sit there with a big smile on their faces.

Next month 6 or 7 games will again be a good result - I am still playing "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 - The Answer" and finding it not as interesting as the main story. Not sure I'll complete it in December - might slip into next year. "The Room II" is probably just a whisker away from the end. Other than that I have a few more puzzle games in the pipeline, but planning to mix in some action and strategy.

My Game Completion Size Guide:
Micro (0-2 hours), Small (2-10 hours), Medium (10-25 hours), Large (25-45 hours), Epic (45+)

Very productive month on my end! Whilst the madness of next-gen console releases was spreading, I was busy being a weirdo and playing free games from various publishers; with some being significantly better than others. Some of these ended up being quite short which would explain this month being one of my strongest in terms of completions. However, the last three were relatively hefty and have been accumulating playtime over multiple months. Verdict's still out on whether December will turn out just as strong given my Black Friday splurge so preparations are ready for 2020's final hurray!

2nd - Helltaker - 55m - 7/10
3rd - Spiritfarer - 25h 10m - 9/10
6th - Super Mario World - 4h 19m - 7/10
14th - Streets of Kamurocho - 38m - 3.5/10
19th - My Nintendo Picross - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 21h 16m - 4/10
28th - Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward DLC - N/A - 8/10
29th - Genshin Impact - Up-to-date as of v1.1 - 7.5/10

Definitely a good month for finishing games - the most I've done in a while!

1) Epic Mickey (Wii) - Beautiful and heartfelt game, hampered by clunky controls and camera angles. Here's hoping the sequel is better.

2) Second Sight (PS2) - How on earth did this go under the radar?!? Awesome story, great mechanics, and good level variety. If any game needed a modern remake, this is it.

3) The Maw (X360) - Short but sweet. Adorable but abrupt. Cute but concise.

4) Splinter Cell: Conviction (X360) - I'm going to miss Michael Ironside. Loved the varied ways you can tackle levels. I'm a stealth nut at heart, but I found myself mixing in some "overt ops" when I mastered marking my targets. I'm REALLY going to miss Michael Ironside.

5) Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike (Xbox) - The one that got me hooked on Ghost Recon in the first place many years ago, I finally got around to finishing it. Grateful that it opened up my eyes to squad-based shooters, but it's hard to go back to this one when they've improved the formula so much since then.

6) Sea of Solitude (PS4) - Liked the concept (especially Windwaker-style boat sailing), but they couldn't stick the landing (how hard is it to find decent voice-actors?). I'm depressed now, but I don't know if it's because of the story or because it turned into a chore to finish it.

7) Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Wii) - Adorable, of course. Played this one with my kids, but it took us forever to finish because we could only get through 1-2 levels before we were at each others' throats. WAY too much happening on the screen.

The high point: No question, it's Second Sight. Someone get the rights to it and remake it or make a sequel.
The low point: Sea of Solitude, but I'm too depressed to say why.

Nov 5 - Sonic & the Secret Rings - Wii (2/10)
Nov 6 - Super Mario 64 - Switch (6/10)
Nov 18 - Among Us - PC (6/10)*
Nov 18 - Pokemon SoulSilver - DS (9/10)
Nov 26 - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Switch (8/10)
Nov 26 - The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition - GameCube (7/10)
Nov 29 - Trials of Mana (2020) - Switch (6/10)
Nov 30 - The Legend of Zelda - Switch (6/10)

* While not really completable, I felt as if I've done enough and enjoyed enough of the game to consider it as a completion rather than a retirement.

Best is Pokemon SoulSilver.

Worst is Sonic & the Secret Rings.

A lot of longer games this month so I didn't really do as much as I've done in past months.

This month I beat Earthbound (played on Wii U), which was soooo nostalgic and charming and I loved it. I had played up to Threed on an emulator a couple years ago and couldn't get into it. The experience on a proper console was much better. I see why it's a classic.

I also played (only a little bit each) and retired Stephen's Sausage Roll, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, AER: Memories of Old, and Demon's Tilt.

Just signed up for Xbox Game Pass for PC and the term is over so I'll be knocking out some stuff in December!
