I've become more interested in games featuring animal protagonists, specifically anthropomorphic ones recently. Although, I don't know too many aside from a few that I know of. I know there's stuff like Sly Cooper, Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet and Clank to an extent, but I'm always looking for more games to try out with anthropomorphic protagonists in them. Please name some down below. It can be in any genre, from Strategy, RPG, Action Adventure, Platformer, anything really. I'm open to suggestions since I want a breath of fresh air from the usual human protagonists.
Also, even if you don't know any games with main animal protagonists, I would love to hear from you as well with games with animal sidekick characters or anthropomorphic side characters. Here's some that I know that have interested me:
Ratchet and Clank
Sly Cooper
Lil Gator Game
Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising
Final Fantasy VII
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Solasta: Crown of the Magister (Dragonborn Character DLC)

Not finished it yet myself but Okami for Zelda-esque action adventure. Just be warned it's a slow start with a long intro. Not anthropomorphic, but animal.
Later Alligator is a goofy puzzle game that's cute.
Bug Fables, a personal favourite, for RPG with Paper Mario mechanics and its own twists to the system.

When I hear games with animals as the main character, I think of Sonic games immediately.
And there is Goat Simulator if you like funny games.
Ancestors, I didn't play it but considering.
Maneater, you play as a shark. Has beautiful graphics.
I won't able to stop myself recommending Far Cry primal.

Beacon Pines would be my recommendation. It's probably classed more as a visual novel, but feels a bit like a choose your own adventure - the story splits off down different paths at 'turning points' which you can return to at any point as you pick up new 'charms' - words you can use to change the story.
The characters are cute and likeable, and the story really drew me in.

I've read my "Completed" list to remember any game in which you are an animal or kinda.
- In Day of the Tentacle, the antagonists are that, tentacles that act like humans. Not a complete animal, but a part of.
- In Tails of Iron, you live in a medieval Rat Kingdom and fight against Frogs.
- In Tunic you are a Fox in an old zelda-like game.
- Some of the previous answers spoke about Pokémon, but in Mystery Dungeon saga, you ARE a Pokémon.
- Finally, in Hollow Knight most of the characters are bugs.
I love all this games, so I recommend you all.

Also:
Banjo-Kazooie
Donkey Kong Country games
Star Fox games
Conker’s Bad Fur Day
Edit: In the Spore games you make you own creatures.

You can try Chicken Police and Backbone, especially chicken police if you are into VNs; It has some really good voice acting

A Short Hike is a very laid-back exploration game and everyone is an anthropomorphic animal.
Never played it but I've heard good things about Super Lucky's Tail
Also never played it but F.I.S.T. has always interested me too
Oddworld Stranger's Wrath I'm pretty sure you play as an anthropomorphic animal/mutant animal from what I remember. It's a fun shooter.
Freedom Planet if you want a 2D Sonic game but are tired of Sonic

Is this gonna be a weird sex thing?
Regardless, no one's mentioned the Klonoa series, and I find that unacceptable.

A game I don't see listed yet is Fe. It's a great game where you play a creature and there's a fascinating gameplay component involving singing/vocalizing. The visuals are very cool too.
