It's nearing the end of the year and it's time for some predictions/plans! What games are you planning to play next year, or at least predicting you will finish?

2024 was not an ideal year for me personally and that unfortunately sunk into my gaming life. Many of the games I played were underwhelming/bad which accounted for 2/3rds of my completions this year. In 2025, I'm hoping to fix that by taking a chunk out of my physical backlog and playing games that I hope will be potentially good/great. I feel if I do this, then I'll end up avoiding the problems of having to play junk most of the time. That doesn't mean my digital games aren't going to get love, I'm planning to continue getting through my Steam/Playstation/Xbox games that I have digitally, but the physical backlog is something I'm really wanting to take serious.

Anyways, these are some of the games I plan to get to. Keyword being: Plan. I'm not going to complete every single game since there's about 50 or so physical games I put in a completion list, but this gives me lots of choice.

Bionicle (Gamecube) and Bionicle Heroes (360) - Don't know much about these games except for the fact that they're based on a brand of LEGOs they don't make anymore. At least I don't think they do. Still should be worth it for some Action Adventure gaming.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Gamecube) - My most valuable game is on the list for stuff I'm wanting to complete. I never beat a Zelda Game before but this time I'm taking it seriously to get this done.

Cat Quest III (PS5) - This will probably be done very early on in the year as it's shorter, but I've really enjoyed the series up to this point so I'm hoping they'll hit another homerun with this one.

Resistance Trilogy (PS3) - I probably am going to binge this series back to back to back. Considering two years ago I played Killzone 2 and was disappointed with how it turned out gameplay and control wise, I'm hoping Resistance will just be better at capturing the console FPS Thrills I want.

3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3) - This is another game that hopefully will be a banger. I managed to get it this year at the Game Expo in Vancouver and yes, I'm so happy that it's in my hands. I've heard loads of good things here so I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

Forza Motorsport 3 + 4 (360) - I keep restarting FM3 but have yet to fully commit time to it. 2025 will hopefully be the year that I complete the majority of content in 3 and 4.

Valkyrie Elysium (PS5) - A game I've been wanting to play for a while after being impressed by the demo. 2025 is the year I hopefully get to it and complete it. I'm always looking for a satisfying Action RPG and this seems to be the one that might do the trick.

The Original God of War Series (PS3) - I have God of War Saga (1, 2 and 3), Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta and Ascension and I've been meaning to play these classics for a while, but since I got all of them I might do a marathon, but am more likely to finish one, take a break in between them and then keep doing that for the rest of the year.

Evergrace (PS2) - Well, I'm going to have to get to this one eventually so hopefully 2025 will be the time to do so! I don't know if the game's going to be my thing but I'm intrigued considering it's an PS2 Launch game.

More Yakuza! (???) - Probably will continue the series on Playstation but I still have to get through Kiwami 2. I hope I can somehow get Yakuza 3 done in the middle of all this, but not sure yet.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (XBONE) - Probably going to play this game on Xbox, but I remember very much enjoying what I was playing. I put 10 hours on the Playstation version. It really is a shame that there's not of lot of games like Amalur in the way it's designed, but that's what makes it so unique I guess.

These are just some of the games I'm hoping to get to in the new year. There's also stuff like Various Ratchet and Clank games, the two Winnie The Pooh Gamecube Games I got, Blood Stone 007 and focusing on getting games finished that I attempted like Astro Bot, Baldur's Gate: EE and of course Kiwami 2, but who knows if that will get done. Point is, there will be a physical backlog to clear, plus digital games and additions as well. Hopefully next year goes MUCH better for me including for my gaming life. Then again, my time will also be committed to attempting learn how to code for game development self taught, so we'll see what happens.

Good luck on your 2025 Gaming Journey everyone and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

My plan for 2025:

New Releases:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PC) - I already preordered this one, so yeah, it will probably be my first big game of the year.
Monster Hunter Wilds - Day 1 playing this game, the beta was just so good.
Stellar Blade (PC) - Whenever this releases...

Backlogged:
Yakuza Series (Yakuza 6, 7, Gaiden, & Infinite Wealth) - Only 4 games to go, I have started playing this series back in 2021, so hopefully I'll finish it by next year.
Mass Effect 3 - I played Mass Effect back in 2023, and finished Mass Effect 2 this year. I need to finish this trilogy for good next year.
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy - I need to hurry up and finish the 5th and 6th game of this series.
God of War: Origins Collection - I still need to finish Ghost of Sparta.
Mafia Trilogy - I'm on the last game of this trilogy.

And of course, I need to finish the games that I have already started.
Also, I need to play more games on my Steam Deck

I rarely stick to my plans for the next year. But still no harm in making plans.

Of course, I want to finish the games I'm currently playing. Most of all Rogue Trader.

I'm often drawn to huge (C)RPGs, even though I do not really have the time for them. I think I might continue Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous next year. I had started this when I thought my Rogue Trader save lost and stopped when I found it again. I'm only ~8 hours in which is to say I've barely started it. Most people seem to think WOTR is better than Rogue Trader. I obviously can't tell yet but I assume I would disagree simply because the setting of W40k is much more interesting to me.

I have many many (C)RPGs in my backlog that I'd like to (finally) play but I'll probably at most have time for one of these:
Dragon Age: Origins, The Outer Worlds, Mass Effect, Kotor 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Baldur's Gate II, also kind of want to replay Fallout 2.
At the moment I feel most like playing WOTR, Kotor 2, New Vegas but we'll see.

I want to play the story mode of The Long Dark: Wintermute. I have no idea if this game is for me but I want to find out. Btw. I almost bought The Long Dark, even though I had it already as a freebie from Epic. Without keeping records through HLTB I would literally buy games I already own, due to hundreds of freebies given away through GOG, Epic, Amazon Prime that I collect without really registering them. Has actually happened already.

Other freebies I want to try out are W40k Dawn of War (1 or 2), W40k Space Marine.

Obviously, if Silksong gets released, that's my number one priority.
--------
I've gone through my previous years' plans (the 2020 - 2024 threads on this forum) and what sticks out the most is my hope that Silksong would release the respective coming year. Also I do not stick to at least half of the items on my lists.

My overall plan for next year is to officially get to 1000 fresh completions when it comes to games, I like to think I've covered almost every big franchise and game I can think of. If you ignore RPGs, stuff like Ace Combat, Earth Defense Force and Armored Core and the indie games that either slipped by or don't interest me, I've covered every major base. Now all I want to do get up to 1000 fresh completions and have Persona 5 or just some super long RPG be my 1000th fresh beat. Afterwards it's going to be me trying to get on the top 50 most completions on the site. I know I won't be number one, but somehwere in the top 50 should suffice but I probably won't reach that until 2026.

I'll try to shove in more RPGs in the meantime all though the genre has been letting me down as of late. I enjoyed Super Mario RPG and Granblue Fantasy Relink but the Sand Land game and ESPECIALLY Final Fantasy 16 just pissed me off so much that I stopped playing after the opening hours since I found the inciding incident so questionably written that I almost thought David Cage wrote it but I don't want to rant about that game, I'll just go crazy.

Anyways, happy holidays, I mainly hang around on this site more so than I use social media whether it'd be managing the backlog, writing reviews and even reading other people's reviews all though I'm trying to tone down on that as of late.

It's going to be tough to top 2024, I completed a ton of games. But I still plan on playing at least just as much, or at least as much as I'm able to in 2025. Similar to 2024, I hope to play more new genres and series, for example in 2024 I tried fighting games for the first time, and now it is one of my favorite genres and Street Fighter 6 is one of my favorite games of all time. I hope to find another genre or series like that, for example possibly JRPGs which I have been eyeing recently.

Here's the list of 2025 releases that I plan on playing:
Doom: The Dark Ages
Metroid Prime 4 (WOOOOOO)
Civilization VII (if it's good, which I'm not sure will happen)
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered
Elden Ring Nightreign (again, if it's good, it's a very experimental game)

For infinite games I plan to continue playing:
Street Fighter 6
Guilty Gear Strive
Helldivers 2
Lethal Company (probably)

For casual playthroughs, this is my list:
Stardew Valley (if I don't end up finishing 100% by the end of the year)
Celeste
Hades
FTL: Faster Than Light
Undertale
Factorio + Space Age
Slime Rancher
Palworld
Outer Worlds

And for series, which is sort of my gimmick, very loosely ordered:
Halo
Tomb Raider
Mega Man
Fallout
Mass Effect
Bioshock
Final Fantasy (though there is no way I'm finishing FF in 2025)

And I plan on doing the gaming challenge for 2025 which I still need to compile a list for, which I'll probably put it at the front of my profile at some point. If I get through all of my casual playthroughs this year (which is doubtful), I'll probably play some of the random steam games I've had sitting in my library for years. Merry early Christmas everyone!

2024 was heavily retro for me, most games I played released over 20 years ago. Missed out on a ton of classic games due to my age so taking steps to catch up on interesting games I have missed. 2025 will definitely see some continuation of that, mostly in the form of franchises I started playing games from in 2024 that I’ve not finished all the games of. Examples of those are: Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Classic 2D Mario, Banjo-Tooie (maybe could be done before end of 2024 but doubt it), Metroid II: Return of Samus, Kirby’s Adventure and some others.

Additionally I’d also like to play more entries of series I played one game of and would like to continuing playing, meaning playing more games from the Resident Evil series and finally get to Mass Effect 2 which I have really delayed starting.

A huge project I’m looking to start the beginning of 2025 is something I have also delayed which is replaying Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and getting the Platinum Trophy, which will be a huge investment but I did have a good time my first time so I hope I’ll manage despite stuff I have heard.

I played a bunch of Mario Kart games in 2024, none of which I had really experienced more. The remaining games I have either some or a lot of experience with, so looking forward to revisiting the remaining 3 games. Also gonna continue playing more of the LEGO games, since those games I’ve been attached to since childhood and I’ve had a great time revisiting them and looking forward to reaching the games that I really haven’t experienced at all. I’m also likely gonna try and 100% The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Seasons since I’m on the quest to 100% all the 2D Zelda games after already done so with the 3D ones. The process for those two games seems overwhelming but I’m sure I’ll figure things out. Also looking forward to eventually checking out Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Demon’s Souls after enjoying many other Fromsoft games, but unsure when that will be.

So most of the games I have my eyes on playing are connected to previous games I’ve already cleared, but I’m sure I’m going to experience some stuff that I wouldn’t have expected. Examples of games I could see myself playing in 2025 are Castlevania (which would likely lead to be playing the later games shortly after), Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Cave Story, Yume Nikki, Golden Sun and others. I doubt I will end up playing a ton of 2025 releases, but will totally play through Deltarune Chapter 3 & 4 and definitely a chance I will play Pokémon Legends: Z-A (thought I haven't gotten the latest Pokémon games at launch in contrast to earlier ones). Definitely excited for the next Switch, but not something I will get during 2025 I'm pretty sure.

Hopefully by the end of 2025 and can look back and see that I did indeed experience many of these games, alongside others that I couldn’t predict.

There's not much new in 2025 I'm too interested in. The only ones being:

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition
Metroid Prime 4
Pokemon Legends ZA (maybe?)

I'm sure there's bound to be more, especially with how quiet Nintendo has been, but that's all I have in mind.

The games I personally plan on playing is a bit of a larger list:

Metroid Prime 3
Pokemon Legends Arceus
Marvel Rivals
First Descendant

And this list of games I've had people pick for me to play next year.

So I'll be pretty busy when it comes to games.

Max Payne 1-3: I wanted to beat these three at the beginning of this year, and then I never beat them. I still really want to beat them and I imagine I'll probably beat them early in the year.

Resonance of Fate: I don't really know what this is, but it looks kind of cool and it's a 50 hour game sitting in my backlog I want to get done. I'm not sure when I'm gonna do this, but I'll get it done eventually.

Uncharted 3-4: Uncharted 2 is really good and now I want to do the rest of them. I picked up Uncharted 3 last week and hopefully I'll find Uncharted 4 out in the wild.

Infamous 2 & Second Son: Same deal as the Uncharted games but I don't own either of these yet.

Doom: The Dark Ages: I'm definitely picking this one up as soon as it comes out. I'm always down for more Doom.

Civilization VII: I have been waiting so long for this and it's finally coming out in February. There are definitely a few things about it that seem iffy (mainly them leaning into more non heads of state as leaders and the crisis system), but I have a feeling I'll still love it for over a thousand hours.

Dispatch: This got revealed at the Game Awards and it looks pretty cool. There's not much info out yet, but I like the voice-talent they've got on this so I'm probably gonna pick it up.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater: Easily my most anticipated game for next year. Snake Eater is my favorite game of all time and I can't wait to play this. We're still waiting for an official release date, but I can't imagine them pushing this to 2026.

There are some things I really ought to have finished by this point so I'd like to actually maybe do that:

A Link to the Past: in progress actually, so if I actually STICK WITH IT, it should be done early in the year. Probably not by year's end, though possible

Okami: This game is right up my alley in so many ways, so I don't know why I haven't actually played it right through yet

Ys VIII: ...embarrassing. I was having a great time with it! Thankfully I feel fine with picking up from my current file

For my Adventurer's Log:

Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire - the final game in my Quest for Glory journey

Discworld II: Missing Presumed...?! - I played the first last year, about time I got to the second

Day of the Tentacle - I've never played it! And that's another big gap in my adventure game experience I need to fix

That's my current plan anyway; it could easily shift. And I don't know what else I'll get to yet.

Other stuff:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak
The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II
Neva
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Fantasian Neo Dimension
Dragon Quest III HD-2D
The Crimson Diamond
Planet of Lana

And other things.

Whether this all actually happens remains to be seen of course.

I made a list of the games I plan on playing in 2025 and in what order in my upcoming games collection. I'll post them here:

- Final Profit: A Shop RPG - I'm playing through this one now but haven't gamed for a few weeks. A rare example of a non-combat RPG Maker game and also a rare example of an RPG Maker game that's actually good. Looking forward to finishing this one up.

- Lunar Axe - The only game I have on the Legacy Games launcher. I want to get this one out of the way so I don't have to install the launcher on my new PC. Nothing special here.

- Oxenfree 1 and 2 - I played Oxenfree 1 a while ago but when they announced the sequel, I figured a replay was in order. Turns out I have a copy from one of the itch.io charity bundles so I can do just that. It was actually delisted from itch recently so I made sure I downloaded it which is why I moved it up to upcoming games.

- Torment: Tides of Numenera - Like Lunar Axe, this is the only game I have from the Robot Cache launcher. I want to get this one out of the way so I can get rid of that launcher. I haven't played Planescape Torment yet which is a big inspiration for this game but it's on my list.

- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy - A carryover from my 2024 games to beat that I didn't get to.

- Trouble Comes Twice - Like Final Profit: A Shop RPG, I also got this from the itch.io Queer Games bundle that my friend shared with me so I want to get to it sooner rather than later.

- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 - The other carryovers from my 2024 games to beat that I didn't get to. I'll play them in 2025, I swear!

- HEARTLOVEPOWERTEMPLE - Another game from the Queer Games bundle.

And that's it! I don't normally have a plan and just go from lowest rated to highest but these are all taking up space on my hard drive so I want to get through them. After that, hopefully things will go back to normal.

For new releases:

-Ys Memoire: The Oath of Felghana
-Tales of Graces f Remastered
-Suikoden I & II HD
-Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition
-Atelier Yumia
-Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
-Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
-Lunar Remastered Collection
-Pokemon Legends Z-A

As for the backlog and anything else:

-I'm planning on finishing the Dragon Age Origins expansions and playing the rest of the games in the series
-I want to play through the Suikoden games in chronological order (IV-Tactics-I-II+Gaiden 1-Gaiden 2-V-III) . I'll need to play IV and Tactics before the I & II remasters but I don't actually have IV or Tactics yet so I'll need to track those down.
-2025 is the Tales series 30th anniversary so I'll be going through as many of those as I can. Currently playing through the Rebirth fan translation and I'm sure I'll be playing that into 2025, and Bamco is planning on doing more remasters so we'll see what happens there.
-Will try to get through the Grand Theft Auto games in preparation for GTA VI

Top priority is definitely Doom: The Dark Ages, Eternal did set an insanely high bar but I have faith in id working their magic. The Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes would also be quite exciting, I'd honestly just be happy if they updated the visuals and kept the shooting mechanics of 3. Still curious to see how Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 turns out, but it's really not looking good so far. Judas, because it's been forever since we've had a BioShock game and the last entry was just "okay", but nowhere near as good as the previous masterpieces.

I do terribly in following what I plan out, but I'll make a list just for the fun of it.

New games/content:
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
Deltarune Chs 3 & 4.
YTTD Chapter 3 Part 2 (If it comes out next year, that is.)

Backlogged games:
Metaphor: Refantazio
Mario & Luigi: Brothership

I also have a couple of personal goals I want to complete next year.
Namely finishing ALL of Higurashi When They Cry. And I'm not just talking about the 8 main arcs. I mean all the VN, manga and anime arcs, including the filler stuff. I want to consume all of Higurashi.
The other one is finishing all the mainline console Mario games. The only two left in that category for me would be Super Mario Bros 2 (, technically Lost Levels as well but I'll have to think if I want to put myself through that ordeal) and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I love these kind of posts and predictions, it's fun to read about everyone's plans for the new year!

Here is the games I would like to get to next year.

Of games being released 2025 these four are the ones that I really look forward to:

Hell is us: seems right up my ally, and kinda relieved it's not a soulslike since I prefer something that's not too hard. I look forward to immersing myself in the world building and exploration.
Grand Theft Auto 6: I have never really cared for the stories in the GTA-series, but it is so fun to goof around in the game. Also looking forward to it because the game releasing is just such a big cultural event.
Doom: the Dark Ages: absolutely loved Eternal, and this looks great!
South of Midnight: got the same feeling from this that I got from the trailers for Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and I can't wait to try it out. I'm okay with both this and Hell is us ending up being just solid AA-games, so I really hope both of them stick the landing without any technical issues.

From 2024 I will continue Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Cyberpunk 2077 (including Phantom Liberty), which I haven't finished yet. I actually just started Zelda, which was a Christmas present. You can see the constraints from the hardware, but it's very charming.

The coming year my plan is to focus alot of time on the Backlog. These games I know for sure that I wan't to play, but there can of course be more than that down the line:
-Remnant 2
-replaying God of War (2018) into playing God of War: Ragnarök for the first time
-Tomb Raider I-II-III Remastered
-Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout
-Final Fantasy VI
-Metroid Prime Remastered

I would also like to finally get through The Last of Us part 1 so I can play The Last of Us part 2 (which I'm looking forward to alot more than part 1). We'll see if that happens.

I have some catching up to do in my backlog (who doesn't, right?) so I'll play mostly 2023-2024 games, and skip 2025 games entirely for the year.

Not sure if I'll be able to not buy a single new release for 365 days in a row though 😭

Right now I'm deep into Final Fantasy XVI, so I'll be playing that probably for the rest of this month and some of next. My brother also bought me Elden Ring for my birthday last year, so I'm looking forward to playing that. I could honestly sustain myself on releases this year (not to mention any potential Switch successors) but I'm probably going to pick up Civilization VII, the Hades II EA, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

Of course I've been waiting for GTA VI since I was in high school, but I'm also looking forward to Doom: The Dark Ages, Mafia: The Old Country, Metal Gear Solid Delta, South of Midnight, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, and Ghost of Yotei.

As for my backlog, I also want to try to take a stab at GTA: San Andreas, Yakuza 0, Fallout 4, Cities: Skylines, Red Dead Redemption, Pikmin, Outer Wilds, and Red Dead Redemption. It's a great time to be gaming right now, though in the back of my head I'm weary that we as consumers have yet to really face the consequences of the mass layoffs throughout the industry.
