This could have easily passed as a new Half-Life Expansion in the year 2002 and is one of the best mods I've played for Half-Life 1 in general. The idea of another rival company of Black Mesa being the focus and having the events of Half-Life accidentally effect the Delta Base is highly original. We've already seen most of the main perspectives of the Black Mesa incident to be honest, so this was cool to see an entirely new POV and the worldbuilding is absolutely incredible. But what's more important is that this is a full on Total Conversion mod, with tons of new weapons, including a light gun (uhm, not that type) and a sniper rifle that absolutely is bonkers powerful. The levels are tightly constructed for the most part, allowing the player to get into deep, exciting firefights while still having the Half-Life feel in place. The beginning is kind of slow in a good way, reminding me of PS1 survival horror titles with how much exploration there is. One of the biggest pluses of the game is that you can blow off enemies heads constantly with many guns, making the gunplay arguably much better than the original Half-Life considering how damn near powerful every weapon is in the game. The music is entirely original, done by two different artists and it feels very much like Half-Life, while the graphics are outright excellent, the new character models, weapon skins and details to the environment are meticulous. The story even ends with an actual playable post credits scene which was totally unexpected as I literally thought more game was ahead of me. I've never seen anyone do that in a Half-Life 1 mod before. The only reason it's not rated higher is two things. One, the soldiers in this game are extremely aggressive in their AI, more so than Half-Life and for that reason, the game can get overwhelming at points when the enemies just force themselves right in your face for you to eat their bullets. And secondly, the Xen Chapter is VERY boring. I'm one of the few people (if not the only one) who thinks Xen was a interesting chapter in Half-Life, but the way this Chapter just drags on and then goes on to say "What you did was entirely pointless!" which was obvious anyways felt kind of insulting and a waste of time, leading to an unsatisfying ending with a "Sequel?" wink wink nudge nudge that 1. Will NEVER happen and 2. Feels tacked on when the ending of you and Diana jumping into the portal was good enough.
This is a seriously good total conversion mod of Half-Life that is absolutely Expansion Pack quality. If this was sold for a solid $10 I would absolutely have gotten my money's worth. This is a mod that has so much care and effort put into it it's hard not to be impressed. I'll definitely come back to this mod again. One of the best Half-Life mods there is, if only it wasn't for that Xen Chapter and lacking ending, then I would have fully boosted my rating up by .5 points.
