I never thought I would play this game again of all things but the fact that it was on Playstation Premium and this is one of the streamable PS3 games on the service made me really want to come back to it since I never played this game's PS3 version. How this of all games made on to the service at all is what I don't get but I welcome playing it again.

Rogue Warrior in a lot of ways is the "best" bad game ever made, there are some others I would list but nothing ever really tops this particular game. A lot of other "bad" games I played and I don't mean disappointing games in popular franchises, usually tends to make me angry for a few hours and then I forgot I played them but Rogue Warrior is such a memorable title.

This can be due to the short length, the hilariously bad over the top dialogue and voice acting particularly by the main character and how the story is nothing more than a vague excuse plot to show off how "awesome" he is. The gameplay itself while can be functional at times has lousy gunplay and dumb AI. The brutal takedowns only add to the hilarity since it once again shows off how much of a "badass" Dick Marcinko love to view himself as. There is nothing more funny than going up close and constantly sprinting up to enemies for a takedown to happen. Where games like Deus Ex Human Revolution often needs resources for takedowns to be done, in Rogue Warrior, you can just keep using it.

As easy as it is to tear apart Rogue Warrior, there are *some* things it kind of does geniunely well. First of all, while you have a mini map, the game does a decent enough job at guiding the player using lights particularly green lights on where to go every door and switch is colored in green so if it's that color, you can interact with it.

Grenades get more use than they do in the CoD games since the health pool is pretty small and it's often encouraged to try to get in a good grenade throw to kill 2 or even 3 enemies.

The aforementioned takedowns are pretty satisfying to look out and has that Tenchu feel of getting a nicely detailed death animation rewarding the player for being sneaky.

The game also checkpoints pretty well and you don't have to do an overwhelming amounts of content upon death.

With all that said, Rogue Warrior isn't close to the realm of geniunely good. Weapons don't sound that great and if you aren't using the LMG and AK while using ADS and aim assist is a game of luck since most of the weapons feel very inaccurate to use. Trying to get a kill with an SMG or shotgun without getting gunned downed seconds after firing feels like a game of luck especially since the health pool on normal difficulty is really small.

The cover system is useless and is almost never needed where a game like Rainbow 6 Vegas gives you open areas with lots of cover and cover helps you getting hit from long range, Rogue Warrior's cover system is gives you a limited feel of view when aiming from cover and you can't use iron sights. Killzone 2 and 3 with it's first person cover at least lets you use ADS. As a result, it's just easier to ADS, shoot, get hit, wait for health to regen rinse repeat.

Stealth is borderline non existent since it's often easier to get takedown while everyone's backs are turned, if you want to reliably sneak past enemies using a third person cover system Deus Ex Human Revolution this is not.

The pistol is also has too slow of a fire rate to even use.

There are hardly any set pieces, any major shakeups to gameplay and most if not all the game is either half baked stealth and cover shootouts.

Sure all this is bad game design but when combine all this together with the dialogue, voice acting and just the dumb ridiculously stupid straight to DVD action thriller vibe the game seemingly is going for, and this makes Rogue Warrior a game that is hard to put down. It's a trainwreck in video game form.

Overall, if you want to have a quick exploration into a "bad game" without needing a time sync and realize how much you take good game design for granted, Rogue Warrior is worth taking a look. There's not many geniunely bad games that are as charming as this one.

This could have been the ultimate So Bad It's Good game. Nearly everything here makes a perfect storm for something legendary that would go down in the books as one of the great bad games. Enough talk about Redfall, Gollum and "Bad" multiplayer/live service games that actually aren't bad, when are we going to focus on games like this that have hugely misguided passion, super vanity and just so much egotistical self reverence that it's hard to take seriously?

It's essentially a first person cover shooter kind of like Quantum of Solace, except you play as a person with a mouth so vulgar I think the people in Swearnet: The Movie would blush in embarrassment. Dick Marcinko is hilariously awful character, where Fuck seems to be his only vocabulary alongside side an exclusive commie hating personality. You basically one man army the entire game and single handedly end the cold war which is absolutely bonkers. The voice acting, including TWO major Hollywood actors, are extremely poor. It doesn't help that the sound mixing in this game isn't well suited for dialogue scenes or one liners, but man, do the one liners rule in the worst way possible. Marcinko constantly swears to the point of parody and... is this even a real person? Apparently! And the game loves to revel in Marcinko's contempt for commies and bullshit. So many of his one liners are hilarious in the wrong ways and I laughed at the majority of them.

As for gameplay and presentation, the game looks below average and stylistically uninteresting for a 7th Gen shooter. The environments are boring and rarely in the Kill Moves you can do, Marcinko doesn't take advantage most of the time of his surroundings. But boy oh boy, these Glory Kills are amazing. Most of them involve Marcinko aggressively stabbing someone in the neck or the face multiple times and it almost never gets old. I kept being surprised by how many brutal and awesome kills there were in this game and to be honest, this is one of the highlights of playing this game. Seeing all these bloody kills gives the game at least some sort of charm besides it's hilarious vulgarity. Gunplay is nowhere near as entertaining though. The guns feel too heavy most of the time and even if you adjust sensitivity, there's no way in hell you're going to fix the performance of the game. The basically runs at an upcapped 30 FPS, but most of the time it hits 20 or below on Xbox 360. I'm sure the PC version is much smoother, but that also doesn't stop the game from spawning you into a death trap that can almost force you to reset an entire mission, nor does it stop the countless glitches with the camera and corpses, not to mention the completely inept grenades that only kill one person and have a short blast radius that's the equivalent of shaking a bottle of Coke and then unleashing it into the air after you twist the cap off. Oh, and did I mention the Enemy AI sucks?

My main issue however is the game gets boring 70% of the way through. After we find out the Russians big bad secret, it gets super dull. Most of the game after that is planting bombs on everything and cover shooting your way to victory. It's not entertaining, there's no exciting set pieces, it's just constant cover shooting and sometimes Kill Moves. The game could have been a masterclass guilty pleasure if the game didn't get boring and the performance on consoles didn't blow, but this is still a neat trip regardless and I'm glad I finally got to play it. It's not abhorrent or completely broken since it functions but it's not really that special either, mainly being as said, a generic First Person Cover Shooter akin to Quantum of Solace. However, I'd much rather recommend Quantum of Solace over this game any day of the week even with that game's issues. It's extremely dirt cheap nowadays and I picked my copy up for $5 CDN so if you are looking for a good laugh, this might be it, but I wouldn't recommend playing through the entire game though even though it's only about 2 Hours long. At least the game didn't overstay it's welcome!

A bad shooter game.
this game isn't worth typing all the stuff that is wrong with it. when a distant cousin was visiting, I installed this game for him to be busy playing a shooter game, it was new back then... other than that a waste of money and it's physical copy sits in my bag of shame next to other bad decisions.

*Warning: spoilers*

Broken mess of a game, boring and short.

Rogue Warrior is infamous for being one of the worst games out there so it should not come as a surprise that I am not that positive about it, and that is an understatement.

You play as Richard Marcinko, a Navy Seal veteran that needs to stop the launch of a ballistic missile in North Korea. You are dropped deep into enemy territory with your team, kill some generic North Korean soldiers and then, your buddies immediately get blown up by a soldier holding an unpinned grenade in his final moments. The fact that your squad mates looked at the grenade, looked at each other in pure Loony Toons style for about an hour before being yeeted away is beyond me. It marked the start of a bad game, and it sure as hell was.

You play trough a couple of very generic levels that all look the same. You murder Korean soldiers and need to find your way to your next objective. That is all there is to it. No side missions, no progression system, nothing.

You can use different approaches (or so the game makes you think) like stealth, guns blazing or a little bit of both. The only problem is that the mechanics are really broken and with stealth, you can kill anything if you are crouching. Even in broad daylight or moonlight, you can walk in front of their faces, and they do not see you. Put a knife in their throats and move on. It is ridiculous.

The combat is poor, and the AI is incredibly stupid. They are generic bullet sponges and for a Navy Seal stealth expert, it felt much more like playing Rambo with a beard and mustache. The gun play feels cheap and dirty, and your weapons sound like pea shooters. You can hold two weapons and although that is not that bad, you get offered many different weapons throughout the game and you never know which ones are best suited for which situation. Not that it matters, they all still feel just the same.

The graphics in Rogue Warrior are horrible, they are blend, grey and unpolished. They are seriously depressing to look at and offer nothing special. Animations are terrible and there is no detail whatsoever in gunfire, explosions and the generic, repeating kill moves that you perform.

The sound design is one of the worst I have ever experienced. Like I said, the guns sound like pea shooters, sound disappears in the middle of a kill animation and the voice acting is atrocious. It is a disaster. The worst part is the ending. When the credits roll, you are treated to a rap, composed by Uncle Richard, containing nothing but swearwords and goat balls. What. The. Hell.

Throughout the game, Richard swears constantly. I do not mind that in games and sometimes, I find it hilarious, but it is just constant, over and over again, many times without any reason. It gets repetitive and annoying after a while and there is nothing you can do to make him shut up. The worst part is when you are “sneaking”, and he just yells out of the blue “Come and get me mother*ckers”. No one reacts, and you are like, why, what?

And off course, the game is completely broken. Enemies clip trough the walls or spas out when killed, you fall trough the floor, constant crashing at random moments, FPS drops and overall, it is one big mess. I yet have to find a game that surpasses it.

Rogue Warrior is also very short and can be completed in three hours at max (if the game did not crash that much). It is also ridiculously easy because of the broken AI and the poor combat mechanics. A combination of camping and the broken stealth mechanics made this game too easy, even on the hardest difficulty.

In the end, Rogue Warrior has nothing to offer. It is broken, lifeless, generic, and overall, just horrible.

This is so bad it's good, from the awful one-liners (basically every single one of them is something about communists and the f-word) to the bog-standard communists are trying to blow up 'Murica plot.

It's a shame the shooting is pretty bad, you die in 2-3 hits, so most of the game involves you hiding behind something taking potshots at the enemies. Some parts you can stealth through, with hillariously over the top kill-moves, but most parts are just a bit of a slog.

It also has some major stability issues; it crashes to desktop quite often and stutters and has framepacing issues. I tried the fixes on pcgamingwiki, and that mitigated it somewhat, but it didn't solve it completely.

Overall I still had fun with it, hence the passing grade.

This overall is decent for what it is and i like that the game is short. The game is not for everyone but those couple of people like me. will find some enjoyment in it.

This game is, in the "wise" words of Dick Marcinko, a "total goat fuck." It crashes all the time, the gunplay is terrible, and it's barely two hours long. However, the dialogue is so amazingly awful that it made the experience hilarious, rather than miserable.

If you are looking to play a "so bad that it's good" game, look no further than Rogue Warrior. It also frequently goes on sale for less than a dollar.

Generally, pretty abysmal. Poor gunplay, awful plot, short runtime, & more of a joke than anything else—Mickey Rourke sounds bored (and almost like he's just improvising all of his lines.) Childish profanity & awesome credits song aside, this is likely too much of a waste of time to recommend to anybody else—even for the novelty.

One of the worst FPS games I've played, and the few redeeming qualities it has are shadowed by poor gameplay and a painfully short campaign. Would not recommend unless you're out of FPS games to play, and you see this for 5 bucks or less. The credit song is pretty hilarious though, I will give it that.

Whatever you do, do not buy this game, even if you happen to have the spare cash lying around. The gameplay is poorly done, the visuals are substandard and the profanity is laughable. The only reason anyone would ever want this title is for achievement/trophy farming, but even then you should rent it or look for a bargain basement sale. Even then, it’s hard to justify polluting your game account with this detritus. I will say it again: do not buy this game.
