Could be described as HYPE AS FUCK. There is something in the gears that is so fun about literally cutting in half a Locust with a Lancer that literally makes me scream of excitement. (maybe I'm a psycho)It's interesting looking back at the games that shaped a lot of games after. Gears 2 is old but still holds up to the nowadays game. Better even than a lot.
Story was a good interesting experience. Cole was so fun. I am just amazed at how much lore this saga has. I was playing it in a multi-player campaign with a friend of mine (Aurelio) And geez. So many details that expand the universe.
In gameplay it's a cover shooter, plain and simple. What I like is that every level has a different mechanic to spice up the gameplay.
I literally dropped the game for 2 months but came back and it was still fun.
Tomorrow I'm starting Gears of War 3 and can't be more hyped.

The last line of Marcus' dad got me so hype for the third game. But sad the last boss fight was literally a point and click with the hammer of dawn.

First thing I noticed right off the bat was the dramatically lower damage taken compared to Gears of War 1. Holy crap, was that a nice thing to have, that game was brutal even on it's easy mode. This game is a major step up from the first. Much better level design along with a great atmosphere to go with it as well. Most of the game is still shooting enemies behind cover, making kind of shooting gallery, but the new weapons like the shield and the enemy variety really break this and help the game a lot. There's plenty of checkpoints as well which is nice. I also noticed they buffed the chainsaw bayonet, I found it practically useless in the first game. The multiplayer mode was improved a ton as well, most notably the ability to play with bots, which the first game didn't have making it sadly just 1v1s there. One complaint I do have though is apparently despite having the achievements from the first game on my profile I couldn't get the characters from it, must've required Live, so I guess those are forever unobtainable. Overall a great game and I would recommend to anyone who has a 360 and likes shooters.Updated 3.5 Weeks Ago

Campaign only.A bigger, more explosive sequel that improves upon the first game, which is an achievement in itself because that game was near perfect. Gears 2 has more varied missions and takes the story and set pieces in a grander, more action movie-esque direction. New characters like Tai and Dizzy are great additions to the returning cast from the first game.
The teammate AI is much improved in this one, and the mission variety is much welcomed. A few sections can drag a tad, especially towards the end of the game, but this is another masterpiece by Epic at the top of their game.

More of the same to the first one if you enjoyed it. There were some different missions here and there to spice things up a bit. There were some missions that I kind of got stuck since I didn't know where to go or what to look for - probably that's my fault. The AI is still horrible and felt like half of the time, the AI is either somewhere far away or just taking cover and not doing anything while I'm shooting enemies left and right. Also, wished that I could give commands like I was able to do on the first one so that the AI allies would at least do something.

Never really been into shooters (not even cover shooters, for what it's worth), but Gears of War 2 is one of my only exceptions. It's a cool game, fun and inventive. Released at a time where shooters all looked more or less the same, GoW2 is not totally innocent here but it has the excuse of being the real deal, instead of one of its numerous clones. Very effective.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

The second Gears of War game wasn't as good as the first one, where it seemed like there was an end goal in mind. After launching the nuclear bomb against the enemies it made no sense how they got stronger and what damage could be further impactful. The story in this aspect was most confusing for me. I felt the first game had better locations too.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Epic ^^ lots of memorable sequences in this sequel. Some difficulty spikes like in first one (solo insane diff). Game has aged very well , only complains is IA companions which sometimes does… nothing . Bit annoying when in middle of fight.Updated 2.5 Months Ago

Played this in Co-op. Comparing this to the first installment, it is an improvement in every single way I think. More guns, more cool set pieces, etc. I can see how this game influenced so many others. My only gripe is that it is definitely peak 7th gen artistic design with that orange and gray tint over everything. It makes the environments kind of boring. Overall I would highly recommend this, especially with a buddyUpdated 6 Months Ago

Great game! It's not a huge step up from the original, but it polishes what Gears 1 offered up and provides an experience that's just as fun. I do wish the storyline with Dom made me feel something. It was a bit predictable, and I felt bad for not caring that much. Has some great moments, and is overall a good time. Not much more to say, honestly?Score: 87

Gears of War 2 certainly shows its age playing it all these years later. My first experience with the series was the Ultimate Edition of the original GOW so taking this step backwards was certainly sobering. Despite the rough edges the games still plays very well all these years later. The loop of getting into cover, taking your shot and then 'instant' reload is consistently enjoyable. I was pretty impressed with the number of large scale set pieces in this game, from riding on multiple Locust beasts to an entire city collapsing around you as you continue to fight. The additions to Dom's character are also fairly compelling, especially from a 2008 perspective. However I think this game certainly suffers from playing it after many other superior cover-based shooters in the years since. Even a game like Uncharted 2, which came out within a year or so of GOW2 completely outclasses it in terms of set pieces, story and general presentation. GOW2 is a fun romp, with still surprisingly crunchy and satisfying combat. It's a step up from the original in terms of story and gameplay but GOW2 has been far surpassed by similar shooters since it's release. It's a good time capsule of what shooters were like at the time and certainly was a major step forward in their evolution , but in retrospect this was only the first tentative step of many still to come.Updated 1 Year Ago

Gears 2 introduced the world to horde mode and the multiplayer was expanded from what there was to offer in Gears 1. I try to focus my review and score of a game based on single player and at the time I scored Gears 1 i was being a bit harsh and I now feel like I should change my score for Gears 1. Gears 2 is a fantastic game that makes many improvements from Gears 1, but overall its just more Gears 1 which is not a bad thing at all. The main Gears Trilogy remains very consistent in feel, graphics, and quality. This game is in desperate need of a remaster and port to PC. At the time I started this playthrough, I was not aware of how well the original Gears games run on the xenia emulator so will most likely be playing Gears 3 on an emulator since its the closest we'll get to a remaster.Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Played the absolute shit out of this on the 360 when I discovered my preference of third-person over first-person shooters. Gears 2 featured a better campaign and introduced the horde mode, both of which were delightful co-op experiences. However, the multiplayer still felt a little unbalanced and the story was so goddamn melodramatic.Updated 2 Years Ago

(Singleplayer) They took all elements I didn't like about 1 and made whole game around them! Lots of useless riding sections, closed spaces and half of the game is spend in caves (most boring environment ever). All weapons seem nerfed and all enemies are bullet sponges. Sniper rifle and shoutgun have no power whatsoever. You HAVE TO use default chainsawgun to do any damage, the most bland weapon in the game. You also are A LOT more depended on cover based shooting compared to 1. This is on Normal btw.Updated 2 Years Ago

The best of the classic Gears of War games. The settings, the level design, firefights, and better character development and narrative were all really big highlights of this game.

This is the gears that got me into gears. I bought this game back when I was in high school before I even knew how to play on xbox live. This was my first true online multiplayer experience. I had wanted to go back to play the campaign since It has been so long since I have played through the story. I am so glad I held out with the xbox series x 60fps update for backwards compatibility. Such a good game that has some lore elements as part of the 4th game. Recommend playUpdated 3 Years Ago
