Game and story is good but you got an insufferable characters and dlc is full of bugs (freeze, not starting back at save point, losing unlockables, etc.) which makes a poor experience. Too bad because the rest is quite goodUpdated 3.5 Months Ago

Its more Gears. I felt no attachment to any of the characters or story as most of it felt very generic or cliche. Mac in particular contradicts his own character in order to alter the path of the plot. Personally, I don't think it is worth playing as, aside from a neat location or two, it adds nothing new or cool enough to make it worthwhile.Updated 9.5 Months Ago

Pros:• Interesting plot, solid setup, and very dynamic transitions. Heroic ending, fitting well with the spirit of the expansion.
• Intriguing characters with captivating backstories. Each holds their own secret, and none are as straightforward as they initially seem.
• The story logically and convincingly forms a diverse group of people into a team, delving into their motivations.
• Atmospheric and visually stunning island setting, a breath of fresh air for the series.
• Connection with characters from the main series makes this departure even more engaging.
• Solid character abilities, especially when upgraded.
• Rich and thrilling missions, particularly Chapters 3, 5, and 6.
• Key gameplay elements remain consistent with the main game, nothing much to critique in that regard.
Cons:
• Occasionally frustrating checkpoint placements.
• Some battles can swing from easy to extremely irritating due to sudden exploding objects.
• AI allies sometimes make fantastically foolish decisions in combat and often make no effort to save you. For instance, in one mission, I crawled across nearly the entire battlefield, depleted the entire timer, lay near an ally for a while, but they never reacted.
• Very short expansion.
Overall impression:
• An excellent expansion with a decent plot, intriguing characters, story, atmosphere, and setting. It's a shame it's so short.

Decent little free expansion. Probably would have been better if I'd read the Hivebusters comics first. Nice little twist with the rogue however, too much standing around. Feels like every chapter has a part where you're on something, boat etc and just plodding along as enemies come at youUpdated 1 Year Ago

This DLC reminded me why i can't stand Gears 5's campaign. You could call this piece of content "Fortnite : Story Mode" and it would be more appropriate. It's not as bad as G5, but simply because you can finish it faster.( Outside of the moments, where you're locked to a turtle speed walking, Jesus H Christ Coalition)Updated 1.5 Years Ago

Decent story and missions. Gorgeous graphics. Didn't enjoy the upgrade hunting mechanic - slowed pacing to crawl, and forced me to explore every nook and cranny. Incomplete ending.Updated 2 Years Ago

Just more Gears. I didn't think the special abilities were all that game-changing - the best one was the ammo regen so I could continually use the lancer gl. I probably liked the main campaign more than this because of the gameplay variety, but I'd still rec this if you like all things Gears.Updated 2 Years Ago

Short fun co-op gears side adventure, story started off strong and got a bit diluted by the end of it. Giant bird was cool looking though with it's wings buzzing. Lots of boat and sliding sections, could of used some different takes on co-op actions. New characters felt Okay'ly written and had some fun moments with the screen time they had. They make UE4 look really pretty in the jungle scenes aswell!Updated 2 Years Ago

8/10.Short but reasonable quality DLC. Nice to have additional story content to play through. Connectivity issues and lost progression (upgrades lost) issues.

Liked this so much more than the main game. Felt the characters were better as well. I didn't play the DLC or anything like that so I don't know the story afterwards but I felt it was much more enjoyable. There are some slow parts but no Skiff crap. :)

Gears 5: Hivebusters is a short but intense series of single-player and co-op missions that provides a great introduction to the members of Scorpio Squad, and how they found a way to fight back against the Swarm. Even if Keegan, Mac, and Lahni don’t gel into quite as cohesive a team as Marcus, Kait, Del, and JD, the fun, varied fights in beautiful new island, jungle, and volcanic environments make for a tense, action-packed expansion. It’s an excellent reason to fire up Gears 5 again and see how amazing it looks and runs on a new Xbox Series X.Updated 4 Years Ago
