been on a mad dash at work while we inch closer to air dates, so not a whole lot of time, but:

finished season one of Batman: The Telltale Series
got a Switch after Christmas so digging into Breath of the Wild (4-5 hrs in) and Golf Story (3.5 hrs in).

loving both my Switch games, just need more time. supposed to wrap my show two weeks from tomorrow, so hopefully have a couple months to knock out some games before next season starts up in April.

Probably going to get back into the Nightmare Before Christmas game on the OG xbox for the season, not that my selection of games aren't already spooky enough.

i would love to go back and check out that Nightmare game. i don't think i ever played it when it originally came out.

i'm currently dabbling in a few things, with nothing holding my attention much. about 7.5 hours into Battle Chasers, which is good... but not great. the music is amazing, love the aesthetic. the combat is relatively fun, but since all you do is battle, it's becoming a little boring. gonna put at least another 2.5 hours into it before i decide if i'll retire it or not. put an hour into The Evil Within earlier this week. my experience in the horror genre is pretty limited, and while i'm not NOT enjoying the game, again, it doesn't have its hooks in me. i recently played through Steamworld Dig, which was a fun, quick little experience. i've also rebooted up FFX HD on my Vita. i think i'm about 10 hours in, which is crazy because i feel like i've just started. i also got a few PSVR games during the PSN Anniversary sale, but have been feeling under the weather and don't think plugging into VR will do my nausea any good. i've also got MGSV sitting on my PS4 XMB and i just cannot get the cajones to turn it on.

dying to play the new South Park and Shadow of War, but gonna try to hold out until Christmas to play. but then if i end up getting a Switch for the holidays... it's gonna blow my backlog up even more.

i started MGS2 and got up until you flash forward and begin playing as the other character. then i stopped and haven't picked it up again. as much as i want to get into these games for their crazy stories, so far in MGS and MGS2 i have not enjoyed the gameplay, and i've been TERRIBLE at it. haven't found much enjoyment and that's a lot of work to put in to get to a free game. but i haven't given up yet.

Hey team,

The only MGS games I've played is the first one, and while I appreciated its relevance to the industry as a whole, I didn't LOVE the actual experience of playing it. I own MGS2 & MGS4, and have always had the intentions of continuing the series as I feel it's a big gap in my gaming knowledge. With MGSV coming to PS+ next month, I think it might finally be time to dive in, although I'm dreading it a little. I might lean hard on a walkthrough, as I found parts of MGS a bit obtuse.

What's everyone's history with the series? Anyone planning on jumping into MGSV first thing? Let's talk about it!

last night i retired Final Fantasy IV (PSP). put about 12 hours into it and absolutely LOVED everything about it. just got to the moon and suddenly my mid-30 level characters are getting one hit killed. looked up level recs and it says low-mid 50's. i don't have the kind of time to grind that out so i'm happily putting this one in the vault.

moving onto Dark Cloud 2 on PS4 (started last night remote play on PSVita and it worked like a dream). after that i plan on either Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS4) or maybe picking up something new (South Park, Shadow of War, Pyre, Persona 5, Lost Legacy, etc)

well then let's talk about it. does anyone have any Halloween gaming plans?

- 2 years ago i booted up Silent Hill (PS1 Classic on PSVita) for the first time. played a couple hours.
- last year i booted up Resident Evil PS4 (first time playing RE). played a couple of hours.
- this year i've got The Evil Within (XB1) that i hope to dabble in.

just got to the underworld in FFIV and i am LOVING it. great story. fun, balanced combat. i'm actually enjoying the little grinding i've had to do. one of my favorite parts is that the cast is constantly rotating, but you never have to choose between party members since the game swaps characters in and out for you. really really awesome. only 7 hours in. would love to finish it, but at this point i think i've gotten my $7.50 worth.

wanted to bump this thread. i recently bought FFI-V on PSN for $22, while already owning FFVI-FFX. my Vita homescreen is FFI-X and it's glorious/scary.

while in Alaska i played FFI for 5 hours then retired after reaching the third boss. i grinded up to the "recommended level" then went and got DESTROYED in my first attempt. looked up a boss guide and it was like four paragraphs of MORE stuff to prepare for the battle so i bowed out. i played FFII for about an hour but got busy back in LA. searched the HLTB archives and came across the flow chart from last year.

i think i'm just going to follow it, but don't plan on gritting my teeth through any of these games. i'm gonna play them to get a sense of their style and such, then once they push back a little too hard, consider it my due diligence. there are too many games in my backlog to spend my time grinding out 20 year old RPGs, although i want to have at least some sort of understanding of them.

i've already played FFVII a handful of times, so i guess i'm moving onto FFIV

after retiring Dead Rising 3 last night, i had a bit of an "overwhelmed by backlog" moment. feeling very frazzled by the amount of games, the length of those games, and the to-be-purchased games on my list. gonna take a moment to reassess where i'm at with all that.

Dead Rising 3 (XB1)

Fun game, but after about 5 hours I felt like it was becoming a bit of a slog. I didn't care about the story at all, and the sandbox was so huge so it started to feel a little overwhelming.

finished Stick of Truth with 98% of trophies (missed ONE collectible at the beginning of the game). started Dead Rising 3 and am enjoying that for the most part. plan on chipping away at Sly 3 on vacation next week (Alaska here i come!). played the new Everybody's Golf last night for a couple hours (rented from Redbox) and loved what i played. i miss the goofier aesthetic of Hot Shots! but the RPG elements in this harkened back to Mario Golf Advanced and Sim Golf, which made me very happy. also been dabbling in my PSVR, which has been super fun.

when i get back from my trip, i hope to continue my Dead Rising 3 playthrough, then i'm not sure what's next up on killing my backlog. trying not to buy anything, although i might break down and get either Pyre or Uncharted: Lost Legacy.

i've also been thinking about how i'd love to go back and play some old PC games from my youth (Sim Golf, Zeus: Master of Olympus, Backyard Baseball, etc) but don't have a PC.

Not sure how many of you have played Dead Rising 3, but I just started it this weekend. The gameplay loop is super satisfying, combining weapons is a blast, the RPG elements are cool, and it's a good old loot-fest.

All that being said, I'm normally a Playstation gamer, only dabbling in my Xbox. Some games I've had no trouble adjusting to the honestly better Xbox controller (Ori and the Blind Forest), but some games I find myself befuddled by the controller (Sunset Overdrive and now Dead Rising 3). I find the button mapping in DR3 so unintuitive (LB for run, LS for dodge, etc) I'm surprised I can't find articles complaining about it. Considering the button scheme between systems is practically identical, I don't understand why the mapping is so strange.

Has anyone else had this issue when swapping between systems, or with specific games? I don't think I realized it with Sunset Overdrive at the time, but I bought an Xbox specifically to play the game and while it felt like I should love it, something in the game was pushing back at me. After the first boss battle in DR3 this weekend being SO EASY but impossible to complete because I kept screwing up the controls, I'm planning on going back to SO to see if it's a similar issue.

FFVII is awesome
FFXIII is actually one of my favorites (don't stone me everyone)

i haven't played the rest enough to comment, although i've at least started VI, VIII, X, XII, XIV, XV

it's super case dependent, IMO. it would be interesting to see a game like Witcher 3 go for $100-120 considering the quality and length. would anyone buy it? no idea (probably not?). but it's been interesting to see the publishers flex prices. Hellblade being $30 off the bat is cool. Ratchet and Clank being $40 was interesting. Pyre being $20 (when Bastion is still $15). the further we get into the digital realm, the more we are seeing these variances on prices. super fascinating to watch it unfold.

I love the idea of achievements, and the replay value they provide a game.

Unfortunately time is hurting my desire to stick around in a single game when I can play other games. I keep saying I'll return to some games to grind out the last achievements etc, but I'll probably never actually get around to doing it if I'm going to be completely honest with myself

yeah im in a similar boat. what the hunting HAS done is that it has made me get more value/ time out of titles i already love. if it's a game i don't like, i don't go for the platinum. and even if it's a game i LOVE, at some point i give up. while i end up platinuming a good amount of games lately, i leave just as many in the 80-90%. just recently i replayed Uncharted 4 and got i think 90% of the trophies. but to get the final few i'd have to do a speedrun replay AND go on a crazy collectible hunt. i now feel more satisfied than i did after that first playthrough bc i really sunk my teeth in this time. and at the end of the day, that's actually what i want out of my trophies.

finished my replay of Uncharted 4 on crushing (with cheats). got 85% of the trophies, but would need to do a speedrun playthrough (and get like 50+ collectibles) to platinum, so i'm calling it quits on this one.

haven't picked up Sly 3 in a while. just isn't calling to me at the moment.

bought, played 3 hours of, then promptly returned Watch Dogs 2.

started a replay of Shadow of Mordor: GOTY on Sunday. finished the campaign last night (so addictive). now i'm trophy hunting before moving onto the DLC, which i haven't played before. interested to see the reviews for Shadow of War.

after that, i plan on replaying Stick of Truth before Fractured But Whole comes out.

also i got PlaystationVR for 40% off on Amazon the other day, so i plan on spending an increasing amount of time doing that.

Watch Dogs 2 (PS4) - after 3 hours i just wasn't super interested. something about it felt bland. maybe i didn't give it enough time, but all i know is that i thought "maybe i'm just not in the mood to play games right now" and booted up Shadow of Mordor: GOTY Edition and started a new playthrough that kept me up until 1am.

it's at that point i decided to return/retire Watch Dogs 2

continuing my crushing difficulty playthrough of Uncharted 4. it's not hard bc i've beaten the game once so there are cheats allowed. infinite ammo, all weapons unlocked, and auto aim make it a breeze (but super fun). not sure i'll platinum it (you have to speedrun the game in 6 hrs and i'm not sure i have it in me), but been enjoying replaying this before the new one.

i need to pick up Sly 3 soon, but normally i play in bed and recently i've had books ive been enjoying more.

after that it's moving onto either replaying Shadow of Mordor, or picking up Pyre or Watch Dogs 2.

edit: i just looked on Amazon Warehouse and they had Watch Dogs 2 for $20 -- which is the price point i was waiting for. technically free with Amazon Points through my Amazon credit card. guess that's next.

i also got a SNES recently with a handful of games and wouldn't mind putting some time into it.
