On mobile, importing games from the Steam list makes a banner on top that doesn’t go away, making the menu inaccessible. Reloading or trying to go back on the page doesn’t work as it asks to “resubmit data” and the banner returns. The only way out is to close the tab or to reload another page, making it really inconvenient. Not sure if it’s a bug, but I’m wondering if this could be changed at all?

I have a strict rule that I'll only preorder games I already know to be good, from reputable developers or from a series I already enjoy. The most recent Pokemon games, the God of War and Fatal Frame re-releases to Steam, Elden Ring, Life Is Strange True Colors, the recent Monster Hunter releases, Nier Replicant and Tales of Arise were some of my most recent preorders. Games I'm uncertain of, I'll wait or preorder closer to release day just for the bonuses. It's hard for me to completely not like a game, so I guess I'm less picky in many regards than most people are. I like preorder bonuses, I like collecting games in a franchise, and I like knowing I can play day one should I choose to.

Short month in numbers, but long month in hours. Finished a lot of JRPGs this month, mainly leftovers from spook month October.

11/02 - Corpse Party: Blood Drive
11/03 - Adventure of a Lifetime
11/14 - The Caligula Effect: Overdose
11/15 - Maid of Sker
11/20 - Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient

10/17 - Alien Isolation
10/17 - Alien Isolation - Last Survivor
10/17 - Alien Isolation - Crew Expendable
10/23 - Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash
10/28 - The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

Tried to get to more horror games this month for Halloween, but ended up getting busy with life stuff. All the games this month were pretty good. I give best of the month to House of Ashes, being the best game in the Dark Pictures Anthology yet. Worst goes to Alien Isolation, purely for the amount of bugs I encoutered while playing.

Finally for once what I was playing lined up with game of the month, which this time was Alien Isolation. I've already completed Little Nightmares, but I haven't played Bioshock 2 because I haven't even gotten through the first one.

Alien Isolation was a solid game for the most part, but the wonky Alien and android AI really put me off it toward the end. One of the DLCs has a bug on the ending as well, which bummed me out for that experience. Overall I enjoyed my time with it, and there were some jumpscares with the Alien that actually got me (mainly it dropping out of a vent or being behind a door that ended unfortunately for me). The downsides I found personally were how it felt like it dragged, and how I always was capped out on crafting items because even on hard I never felt like I needed them. I get why it was structured how it was but all the backtracking and getting lost made it feel monotonous. Getting unlucky with Alien AI and having to start all the way at the last save killed any suspense I had just from trying to get through the level in some spots. That said, I don't see why it's listed as an 18 hour game. I finished it in around 9.

Little Nightmares (and the sequel, even though that isn't this month) was a game I wasn't expecting to be as good as it was. It looked cute and indie but genuinely had some unsettling undertones to it and I enjoyed it a lot, especially the Tim Burton-esque style it had. I hope they continue to make more games in this series, it's eerie and unsettling with a vague and open-to-enterpretation story that I loved. It's a game that doesn't need words to make a point, yet the point spawns theories and drags you toward every detail the game has to offer. I was so excited for the sequel to this game when it came out, and played it immediately. I can't wait for more.

1) Depends on the game. If it's a genre I know I struggle with I might dial the difficulty back a bit, but usually I play on the recommended mode. Generally normal, though I noticed while playing Alien Isolation this month that game recommends hard, so I played it on hard. If it's a game I know is skewed to be more on the easier side, I'll pick a harder difficulty. I look for a challenge but not to be stuck for hours because I can't get past a section being too difficult.

2) Also depends on the game. If I'm enjoying it I'll take my time, but if a game starts to drag or become less fun than it was I generally rush to finish. Some games I play with a guide, just so I don't have to backtrack/replay for achievements, but I always use a spoiler-free guide so I can still take my time to enjoy the story.

3) I feel like I'm very critical, but I also enjoy most games. There's rarely been a game I've played that I wouldn't recommend at least for the experience. A game really has to disappoint me for me to not recommend it. Though the level and reasoning of my recommendation varies.

My gaming style certainly has changed as I got older. Growing up meant getting a job and getting a job meant buying more games, so I went from having maybe 5 options to having over 1300. That alone was a big factor in changing how I play, because now I'm trying to get through my games and enjoy each experience rather than playing the same things over and over.

Finally upped my numbers this month, and I'm so happy about being back on the completion train.

07/12 - Super Mario Sunshine
07/12 - Kill or Love
07/13 - Dude, Stop
07/14 - Untitled Goose Game
07/16 - Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion
07/16 - Nekopara - Catboys Paradise
07/16 - Milky Way Prince - The Vampire Star
07/17 - Slender: The Arrival
07/21 - Lovekami: Healing Harem
07/29 - Resident Evil: HD Remaster

Best: Resident Evil: HD Remaster.
Even though the camera angles and controls were janky, it's a good start into what I know to be a great franchise. I'm excited to get to the rest of the games, and I can't believe I've been holding off on them for so long. I can definitely tell why it's a classic.

Worst: Slender: The Arrival
This game didn't age well. I remember when it first came out and I was excited to watch it played on YouTube because I couldn't afford games back then. But playing it now, it's just way too short. A lot of the textures are clearly reused from other games. The enemies are very non-threatening after you get used to them, and it's just not scary. In some of the levels it's impossible to tell where to go because the next area is basically hidden and you have to spend 10 minutes looking for it. But even at that, it's under 2 hours long. It feels like a walking sim with one gameplay level reminiscent of Slender, more than a horror game.

I'm sitting here loving how the new import feature works, but with it brought a bunch of duplicate/weird entries to my import list and I put off listing them until now because I've been really lazy with almost everything lately.

Song of Horror: Episode 3 is for some reason linked to my Steam instead of the main game. I own all the DLCs (season pass). I don't have any of the DLC in my backlog or lists anywhere, but I do have the main game in my lists - specficially backlog. So in theory, either episode 2-5 should all show up, or none should show up since I already imported Song of Horror.

https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=73165

On the opposite end of the above, Strife: Quest for the Sigil is a game I do not own. I do however own Strife, the newer MOBA. For some reason, Strife: Quest for the Sigil is in my import list as if it's trying to link to Strife (the MOBA) when the two have nothing to do with each other. To my knowledge, Strife: Quest for the Sigil isn't even on Steam.

Feels good to be back in the swing of completing things.

06/05 - Genshin Impact (main quest)
06/08 - Tropical Liquor
06/27 - New Pokemon Snap
06/27 - Fractured Minds
06/28 - Lust from Beyond
06/30 - Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!

Best this month were New Pokemon Snap, Lust from Beyond and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!.
New Pokemon Snap was such a gorgeous game and even if it didn't have a ton of content, it's nice to see a very old game get a fresh reboot.
Lust from Beyond was the next game in a series I was highly anticipating and it lived up to my hopes.
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! was such a nice update to an instant classic that added so much more content and lore to an already amazing experience.

Worst this month was Tropical Liquor and Genshin Impact.
Tropical Liquor was a filler game I played this month, with very uninspiring gameplay and premise. It felt like a poor attempt at ripping off HuniePop and I just wasn't impressed.
Genshin Impact was a great game overall, but the main story quest (which is what I was recording time for) took forever and felt like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience. Maybe if there was more content that wasn't AR gated it'd be a different story, but as it is now feels attrocious and put me off playing the game for a while due to the main story alone, as much as I enjoy the rest of the game. I just grinded out what little content there is and am currently awaiting the next update to play more.

I really need to up my completion count next month.

05/09 - Cuphead
05/25 - The Way We All Go

Cuphead was the best this month, even if it felt like it took me way too much time and stress to finish. The boss designs were great even if frustrating at times. By the end of it I was so glad to have it completed, but it's still such a good game.

Depends on the game for me. I'm a completionist at heart but if the game has a really high requirement for getting 100% (looking at you, Cuphead) I either put it off in favor of getting some other games finished or just skip it entirely and write it off as just being a time waste. That being said, I've been doing 100% in less games recently just because I'm trying to get through games rather than taking extra steps to 100% them all. But the ones I haven't done 100% on are on a replay list for me to come back to, hopefully when my backlog is finally empty or at least smaller.

How Do You Choose Your Games?

I personally have a list I call “queue” as one of my custom lists, and on that list I put backlogs I feel like playing next. Since my backlog is so large, that turns it into a smaller piece for me to choose from. Then from my “queue” I pick whatever I’m in the mood for. Whenever I finish a game from my queue, I add another to it.

Technically only 'finished' three games this month (and still in the middle of one, but I'm counting its episodes). Short month due to lots of busy hours at work.

03/04 - Neko-Nin exHeart 2 Love +PLUS
03/07 - Life is Strange 2 - Episode 1: Roads
03/20 - Catherine: Full Body
03/22 - Life is Strange 2 - Episode 2: Rules
03/25 - Life is Strange 2 - Episode 3: Wastelands

Best of the month was Catherine: Full Body. I did the true ending for the new character, and it reminded me how much I loved this game the first time around. The remix mode and all the story changes make this version feel like a fresh take on the old story. I loved it.

Worst of the month has to be Neko-Nin exHeart 2 Love +PLUS, purely because I'm finding that I don't see this series as being as charming as it was in its first game. It's okay, but the story seems like it's slipping a lot in the later novels. Sadly I bought the rest of the series and feel obligated to see it out to the end.

Fighters, RTS/Strategy and FPS/shooters are my main three. (Edit to add sports games, I honestly forgot it was a genre). FPS I'm a little more forgiving on, as I play things like Overwatch/Paladins and games with a lot of shooting in them like Cyberpunk 2077, but in general these are the three I don't like.

With Fighters I'm just not someone who enjoys the combo heavy fast-paced test of skill. No amount of practice has made me comfortable with this genre, it's just one I don't feel great at and try to avoid.

Strategy/RTS games are another, my strategy skills don't usually present themselves in the way these games usually expect their players to use them, I've always been bad at looking however many moves ahead and planning for every outcome. It's just too much for my brain to be able to enjoy.

FPS is just a personal thing, gun-based games have never been my draw. I'd also lump in Battle Royale games that incorporate a lot of FPS/shooting in here as well. I prefer a fantasy setting, which generally doesn't involve guns/typical FPS style. Games like Overwatch or Paladins that have a heavy fantasy-like element to them while also being FPS are the main exceptions I make to the genre.

Edit to add sports games: I don't watch them IRL and I wouldn't want to play them as a video game either.

Would it be possible to have a user setting to turn it off? I personally highly prefer not having pages, and with 755 backlogs I don't have the issue with lag that other people have. I'd love to have the option to choose if I have pages on my profile for my view or not.

Only on PC browser am I getting this issue, and when I asked someone else to check they saw it as well. I cleared cache, restarted my computer, and refreshed my browser about a hundred times but the issue persists and has stayed for hours. I’ve never had this error code come up before here or anywhere else but since someone else saw it today too I assume it’s not just on my end. It happened first on Firefox, then on Microsoft Edge, then the same thing happened after I downloaded Chrome to try. Mobile version works fine, and is what I’m using to post this. Is anyone else having or has had this issue? Is there a known fix for it? User Image
