Aw man. I’m just totally devastated that this exploit deleted my gaming blog in which Final Fantasy 2 maybe won the poll, but since that doesn’t exist in this timeline anymore, I just guess I’ll have to start a new thread with a new poll, and have you all vote again as to what I should play

What I done did beat:

Pokemon Shield (Replay) - This was a Wonderlocke challenge. All the usual Nuzlocke rules, except you must instantly Surprise Trade anything you catch. Challenge runs really are the best way to experience these games.

Super Castlevania IV - Not my favorite in the series, but I appreciated some of the quality of life updates and ambitious art/music for the time. One of those games that shoves its difficulty in your face without really earning it.

Sonic CD - Do you like holding right? Then golly, do I have the game for you!

Astral Chain - Best of the month by a pretty significant margin. Yeah, I know, the story is predictable anime phooey, but I have never taken to combat mechanics in a game like I have with this. It's not often that I can consistently score S and S+ rankings in action games, but the options with weapons and Legions struck such a chord with me that I actually felt confident in my abilities. I've also heard some complaints about the investigation parts, but I thought they broke up the battles very nicely and contributed to building up the intrigue within the world. Honestly, I think most action games have a problem with pacing by inundating the player with fight after fight after fight with nothing else to focus on. I wish more would go outside the box like this.

Control - Hated it for the first couple of hours and almost gave up. However, once I got used to the tone and scored enough abilities/upgrades for the combat to not suck, I started to appreciate it much more. It has a number of flaws, but it's far more intelligent and imaginative than most AAA games.

I did a Nuzlocke run for Sun/Moon and hated it. I too wanted a challenge with my Pokemon games, but it just became too grindy and boring. I didn't play with EXP Share then, but since it's a built in feature you can't turn off in Sword/Shield, I would assume it would make the process relatively easier

More seriously, I've written about this before. There are just too many things to worry about and manage. Just taking that much time to create a character makes me sick. The D&D inspired stats and mechanics are annoying me. I would LOVE to see a more action oriented remake of Fallout or other games like it. I love the settings and stories in these games. But the gameplay is definitely not for me.

For real though, Hunting Horn is super fun. A weapon that creates different notes depending on the attack you do, and then you unleash all of them in a final combo that does extra damage AND buffs you and your allies? Sign me up!
The cherry on top is hiting a monster's head with some bagpipes taped to a stick. I would pick that even if it was a subpar performing weapon.

I'm currently streaming Quest 64, following my fantastic playthrough of Pandora's Tower. I forgot how bad this game was the last time I played it back in high school. It's still just as bad in every facet--gameplay, graphics, music, and story. I can't really recommend this game to JRPG fans, not even newcomers to the genre.

I can confirm Quest 64 is a bad game. Kid me thought the box art looked cool at Blockbuster and gave it a rental. Kid me was an idiot

From the Mass Effect menu music to Mass Effect 3: Citadel's "Bad Choices" the games had top notch music.

I don't understand the hate on Mass Effect's exploration. People love Journey, but suddenly driving around alien landscapes with gorgeous skyboxes listening to the best ambient music ever and finding ancient artifacts of mysterious purpose is bad?

I try to be accepting when people like Dark Souls and other things I don't understand. But how people don't love Mass Effect is an ever bigger mystery than the origin of the Reapers!

No, I'm not (I was only trying to give mockturtle an alternative Star Wars game that could scratch a Star Wars itch without risking being burned on a recent, buggy hype-fueled game), but - and I didn't read her post in depth - Eries seems to have given mockturtle some better information specific to this game, so there's no real point in making everyone reading this thread annoyed by bickering back and forth because you think you're right and I think I'm right.

At this point, just make up your mind as to what stance you want to make. You recommended Republic Commando to Mockturtle because it was a "proven good" Star Wars game, and that Fallen Order was not, when in fact Fallen Order is very much a "proven good" Star Wars game. Now you are backtracking and going a different route and saying you were just trying to recommend a game that isn't a "buggy hype-fueled game".
