No long review ahead, therefore praise the message and behold, something incredible!!! 2022's Game of the Year ELDEN RING is astoundingly fun, beautiful, brilliant, and emotionally tumultuous. Your first playthrough of the game is magical. It's like "woaaahhhhh holy crap this game is gorgeous," followed by "WHY DOES EVERYTHING WANT TO KILL ME AGHHHH," to "gee this is super fun!" and then back to "I HATE THIS GAME I HATE THIS GAME I HATE."
The soundtrack, open world, combat, physics, characters, and story are all incredible. Wasn't surprised at all when I discovered George R.R. Martin helped with this project.
Overall, a 9.5/10, would very highly recommend.
TL;DR - Play ELDEN RING. You'll hate and love it, and it's a beautiful balance.
100% on NG+7: 147 hrs (including first playthrough)
P.S. Oh and by the way, when I was deciding whether to play this game, I hesitated when I heard people saying there wasn't much of a story or plot driving the gameplay. This was very, very wrong. ELDEN RING's characters and stories, both main and side, are rich and incredible.

Quite good. Compared to good old dark souls it is a little sparse in its point-of-interest placement, I didn't like the mini-dungeons very much, and I think the more open areas are not great (still ok). The legacy dungeons are good though, and the bosses are incredible. A shame fromsoftware set aside the more rpg elements, or at least the inconveniences they brought: near-unlimited restat means you never really have to commit your levels to anything and can always radically change your build. The same is true for ashes of war compared to ds1 ascension, where you can switch to a different element instantly to 0 cost, whereas in dark souls if you change your mind you lose all of the special titanite invested in the weapon. Really makes me not want to play the game again from the beginning, since I can just change my high level STR/FAI into a DEX/INT or whatever any time I want, so I'll just ng+ once and that'll be all.
Another complaint I have is that the fast travel system (and horse) trivializes the size of the map. I'm not saying I wish there was no fast travel but maybe it should be more limited or only allow warping to "important" graces (like in ds) or not be available from the beginning (like in ds).
227h to complete game w/o SOTE.
(having just started SOTE) I dislike the SOTE-specific leveling system and fundamentally I don't understand why it was needed in the first place.

the eldened ringDespite being hella late to the party, I can say without a doubt that I get it, I fuckin' love this game. I definitely have my gripes, but some of the highs honestly beat alot of the lows for me. The game looks astounding visually, even on some of the lowest settings, alot of the areas are just beautifully designed. The gameplay also feels pretty great, the sheer variety of weapons and spells and such at your disposal really make it so you can play the game in damn near any way you want. Wanna fight by only hurling lightning at your foes? Wanna kill bosses with bottles of perfume? Wanna slay dragons using cannonballs fashioned as boxing gloves? You can do it all my friend. In classic Fromsoft fashion the story and lore is very fragmented and you gotta piece it together yourself, but with what is already available to you, the lore is pretty interesting and constantly had me looking for more. Some gripes I had with the game would probably be how some of the bosses are designed, some I had a blast to fight and felt really cool beating them, others had me wanting to claw my eyes out. Some of the dungeons are also designed in a way that comes off as more annoying than intuitive and clever.
All in all, I had an absolute blast with this game. Despite only playing it through one time, I definitely plan to come back for a new game plus or two, and also to play the DLC.

It took me a while to really get what so many folks saw in this game. It started strong, lagged a bit toward the middle, picked up again as several of the storylines hit their stride, lagged again in the later areas, and finally stuck the landing with the endgame bosses and final story payoffs. I still feel like there's more to see in the Lands Between but overall, I'd put this among FromSoft's best - I don't think it's the top of the key, but I'm glad I didn't give up on it when it started to flag, and most importantly it ended strong. Excited to see where the DLC goes from here.Updated 2.5 Days Ago

Mountaintops of the giants and consecrated snow fields are the sole reason this game is not getting a 100% rating, what an absolute masterpiece of a game, if you're hesitant on trying this because of the difficulty, the game has a toddler mode called summons, just ring a bell and let an overpowered copy of yourself beat the boss for you, or don't and overcome the barriers by your own merit with learning and perseverance to experience this masterpiece the way it's intended, this game is phenomenalMade a separate review for the DLC but summing it up it's an 8.7/10 not quite as good as the main game but it's still great

【The fallen leaves tell a story. Of how a Tarnished became Elden Lord.】
【Ahh, I knew you'd come. To stand before the Elden Ring. To become Elden Lord. What a sad state of affairs. I commend your spirit, but alas, none shall take the throne. Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle. Unto eternity.】
Elden Ring is not just a game; it is a transcendent experience, a monument in the history of video game design, standing tall as a titan in its vast and intricate world. With its unwavering mastery over every aspect that constitutes a masterpiece, Elden Ring is a living epic, a dream come true for any video game enthusiast, and particularly for those devoted to the soulslike genre. This is a title that does not merely challenge the player but envelops them in a whirlwind of emotions, sensations, and memories, leaving an indelible mark that is etched deep into the soul.
Starting with its visual section, Elden Ring is a feast for the eyes. Every corner of its open world, vast and detailed, is alive with color and mystery. The dazzling ruined cities, the rugged landscapes, and the majestic fortifications are just a few examples of the talent that shines through every corner. The skies ablaze at sunset, the ruins of once-mighty kingdoms, and the mythical creatures inhabiting its lands are visual testaments to the sublime artistic work that defines this masterpiece. Every element, from imposing castles to the scattered villages, has an aesthetic richness that feels organic, as if the world itself breathes along with the player.
The Elden Ring soundtrack is an epic hymn, an unbreakable melody that accompanies the hero’s journey from moments of calm to intense battles with colossal bosses. The compositions, full of solemnity, glory, and tragedy, perfectly adapt to each stage of the adventure. This sonic work is not merely decorative, but rather an extension of the very atmosphere of the game, magnifying the feeling of being immersed in a world full of secrets, legends, and horrors.
What truly distinguishes Elden Ring from other titles is the depth and richness of its narrative. This is not a story told in endless dialogues or cinematic cutscenes filled with exposition. No, Elden Ring is a narrative that unfolds in the very act of playing. Every corner, every enemy defeated, every relic of what was once a lost civilization adds a layer of hidden history that gradually intertwines in the player’s mind. The characters, while few in number, are a reflection of the complexity and moral ambiguity that permeates this universe. With their charismatic designs, each of these beings overflows with personality and mystery, inviting speculation and reflection on their intentions, motivations, and fates.
In terms of gameplay, Elden Ring is the pinnacle of design in the soulslike genre. It is the dream made real, where customization caters to every player's style, allowing them to forge their own hero in the way they desire. The combat, dynamic and fluid, challenges the player’s skills, rewarding patience, observation, and dexterity in equal measure. Exploration, free and vast, invites adventure without restrictions, where each new corner hides secrets and challenges alike. All of this unfolds within a unique open world, where decisions and discoveries feel like an integral part of the experience itself.
Every step within Elden Ring is a journey that goes beyond mere gameplay; it is a philosophical, emotional, and, in many ways, spiritual odyssey. It is a title that challenges and rewards, captivates and tests, and above all, leaves you with a sense of having been part of something much greater. It is a game that engraves itself into the heart, occupies your memory, and, once completed, remains there in the background, waiting to be relived in every recollection.
Personal Conclusion: Elden Ring is, without a doubt, an indisputable 10/10. It is a masterpiece that stands as a pillar of the video game industry, an experience that will transcend time and be remembered as one of the greatest creations ever made. With its exquisite gameplay, stunning visual design, epic soundtrack, and captivating story, Elden Ring not only redefines what a game can be but elevates the entire medium to new heights. There is no doubt that we are witnessing a monumental work that will remain in the hearts of those who dare to embark on its journey.

Tree Sentinel was very fun but wasn't that hard as I have heard. And idk why I was struggling on Margit although I have killed him on first try before. Godrick is currently my fav boss as of now as his moves resembles of Slave Knight Gale. Renalla was irritating I used skeleton summons on her cause why not and Bloodhound was kinda hard for me maybe because of input delay or maybe I was bad, his move set was very much like of Dancer of Boreal valley. And finally I fought Radhan at 40 lvl, his arena was so dope but nowhere near my boy Gale and I used Greatsword at first in which I was struggling but then I used Bloodhound's Fang out of my friends pressure and 1 hped him on first try and later I killed him using it, his 3 combo attack was so satisfying to dodge and the arrows he shoots at me while I was riding to him was pretty cool too. But the thing was I got to know that he was nerfed 2 times in which Fromsoftware took down his second phase to appear when he is on 30% of his health which was really a big let down as I couldn't experience it for a long time. But in the end he was good not a tough fight but still fun. Loved Godfrey his 2nd phase grab attacks were horrifying. Then I went to DLC and oh my god Rellana shitted on me like crazy, she was the hardest at that time but I leveled up and put on some buffs and killed her. Then came Messmer, my favourite boss fight of elden ring, its like perfect so close to Gayle. The moves are fun to dodge the 1st phase is so much addicting. I just Loved it, took me 120 tries to beat him. Dancing lion is my 2nd fav fight as he kinda have 3 phases one is lighting one is snow and one is hurricane like wtf, he surely dropped my fps to 20 and speaking of fps This DLC is so fucking optimized like i was having fun in base game with 40-50 fps but then it drastically dropped to 20-25 every fuking boss fight in dlc maybe it was my pc or idk. I used spirit ashes on some irritating side bosses like gaius, midra and metyr and I still had fun. Then I completed Igon's quest and summoned him for the voice line and omg that quest didn't dissappoint it was pure goosebumps but idk Bayle was not that tough he was cinematic fs but I was just attacking his legs and standing still lmao, Bayle's OST is by far my fav in Elden Ring. And then came Promosied Consort Radahn which is legit an Aura farmer like why tf is he back and why tf is Miquella on his back, all aside I was struggling on him but then I found the craziest gs build I can achieve 💀. And yk what happen next 6k buffs damage and 4k base damage, I was able to bring his 2nd phase in three attacks and killed him in total 8 attacks. Then returned to Erdtree for Radabeast and he was easy too killed him on 4th try and then ended the game with Frenzied Flame Ending. Pure Cinema.
This came changed my way of thinking of open world game, I hated open world game cause they are too repetitive and boring but then I played Elden ring.

I was very excited to dive into Elden Ring for the first time after beating Sekiro. It did not disappoint in the slightest. Elden Ring is quite possibly my favorite game of all time now (Pokemon HeartGold will always be in that discussion for me). It was perfect for me. Minimal hand-holding, constant action, rewarding feeling of discovery, lack of cutscenes, tons of customization... I could go on and on. The sense of accomplishment I got from this was only comparable to defeating Sword Saint Isshin for the first time in Sekiro. I don't think that there has ever been a game that kept me so dialed in for so long, even when not playing it.
The combat feels incredible (nothing will beat Sekiro combat, however). There are zero bosses that feel similar to other bosses. It is truly a unique experience every time you are engaged in a boss fight.
The DLC is also perfect. Defeating Consort Radahn was a very fun, and grueling, process. I tried four or five different builds before finally taking him down. Same with Bayle. I left no stone unturned while playing this masterpiece and am now upset that I cannot experience this for the first time again.
Easiest 10/10 ever.

-93-Insane game. I didn't know how awesome a From Soft open world game could be, specially for me who has not played many open worlds before: It was great. Sometimes the open world is a bit repetitive but for the first playthrough the exploration outdid the repetitiveness for sure. I mean, I enjoyed chalice dungeons in Bloodborne as well. So yeah. The score is fantastic, the gameplay the best Souls formula of From Soft yet, the main bosses are extremely epic and pretty difficult even for a souls veteran and I love how many weapons or playstyles are super viable (looking at the other souls-games here). Absolutely a must play. The numbers and fans speak for themselves.

Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

Base game is really fun but I havent beaten it yet because I was watching live streams at the same time when this came out and got too burnt out to finish. I did watch someone beat the whole game though. - The combat is okay but having the option to explore elsewhere when you are struggling with a certain boss is nice. The game is massive. The exploration is probably the best part as there is so much to look around for and find. The story is very minimal and you pretty much have to look up guides for any of the side quests since they are not direct in any fashion or easy to follow along.
- My biggest issues are malenia's waterfowl attack, the amount of bosses that have incredibly delayed attacks followed by extremely fast attacks that you have to reflexively react to, the lack of weapon moveset variety considering how many weapons there are, the severe lack of armors/ clothes for fashion in the early and mid game compared to previous games, and that the co-op in the unmodded game is garbage and only playable with the seamless co-op mod.

Updated 2.5 Weeks Ago

When I was younger, I used to say, “I’ll never play Souls-like games. Why would anyone enjoy suffering just to kill some bosses?” Well, I think I finally understand what my friends saw in these games.I’ll be honest: I played a large portion of this game using the Seamless Coop mod. To keep things challenging, we increased the bosses’ health by 300%. Later, I ported my save to single-player mode and continued playing until the end.
304 attempts to kill Malenia. Over 200 for Mohg. Around 60 or 70 for Radagon. And you know what? I’d do it all again.
The story is confusing as hell. Characters don’t explain things in a straightforward way, and much of the lore is buried in item descriptions, but everything connects beautifully by the end. I played in 1440p, and the graphics are absolutely stunning. The OST? Simply breathtaking.
Of course, it’s a Miyazaki game: gorgeous, but unforgiving. While it’s one of the more accessible souls-like games, that doesn’t mean you won’t spend countless hours battling bosses or deciphering dungeon mechanics.
10/10. I’d gladly do it all over again. And I will for Shadow of the Erdtree and Neightrien.

Absolute open-world perfection. Every inch of the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow are so perfectly crafted, that it makes you question every other open-world that you explore after. If they can achieve this with a world this large, what are other developers doing?!Every corner you turn, doorway you enter, or hill you crest, frames an incredible scene / vista. It is as discusting as it is beautiful.
Yes its hard, yes it punishing, but it is always fair. Except for Consort Radahn. They can fuck right off...

[Base game review]Masterpiece. I can't believe Miyazaki with From Software can set up the expectations on such a high level and then deliver. The world feels so vast and open, so it can be pretty overwhelming at the beginning, but that's what I like playing open worlds. I like when the video game doesn't treat me like an idiot, doesn't show me hundreds of points of interest on a mini map, basically taking my hand and showing me what I should do next.
I appreciate true-open-exploration-type-knowledge-based-games giving you satisfaction when you discover something on your own, often by serendipity. Elden Ring encourages you to go to every place on the map (at least in the very fist playthrough, but we'll get to that later), rewarding you with armaments, talismans, key items, but often also mushrooms. As number of smithing stones, or gloveworts is finite, progressing game you gain access to those items at Twin Maiden Husks' shop collecting certain bell bearings, so you don't need to worry about traversing the world map for 100 hours in need of just one smithing stone to upgrade your weapon.
The possibilites of building a build are basically infinite. You have a lot of armaments, incantations, sorceries to choose from to blend perfectly with your playstyle. However, when you have this number of possibilities, a lot of them will be just pure trash if you are more serious about PvP. For PvE there are virtually no limitations.
The battle system is as responsive as never before, the gameplay feels fast, the bosses are mobile and have a lot of moves, most of them are telegraphed very well. However, there are also a lot of tedious bosses, and copypasted bosses with higher stats to higher-level areas of the game. Catacombs and caves feel very repetitive - there is a big door, go find the lever, go back to the big door and fight the boss. There are some of them that feel different, such as those below the Leyndell, but a lot of them are just copypasted dungeons. Legacy dugeons, however, are amazing. From the very beginning - Stormveil Castle, through Raya Lucaria, and Leyndell, legacy dungeons feel amazing and are the essence of dungeons from the original Dark Souls Trilogy games.
However, being that big and sometimes repetitive open world hinders the replayability of Elden Ring. Some caves I've seen before I don't want to come back to, and often I don't need to. So the next playthroughs I imagine to run just for essential items, or weapons I need to build my build.
OST sounds amazing and blends with the landscapes very, very well. In the Limgrave the ambience sounds comfortable, even nostalgic, but in Caelid you feel you are in hell just with the sounds.
One thing that makes Elden Ring not being godlike, is no covenants. Multiplayer and invading feels just unnecessary and it's hard to roleplay or engage with various guilds, as it was in Dark Souls 1. The game has also problems with optimization, especially on PS4 where the frames after burning the Erdtree can drop to 15-25 fps.
Elden Ring lacks with PvP, copypasting enemies, but overall, I can't give Elden Ring rating other than 10/10. I enjoyed almost every minute playing, the satisfaction after defeating certain enemies or bosses was through the roof, juggling with builds and calculating damage, exploring, discovering, responsiveness of movements, they are all the things to make this game like no other.

Non-existent story. Boring dead barren world with a few laughably shallow NPCs. No quest tracker or journal (quests are basic and boring as well). The only motivation to keep going is to find new items/equipment in the world and battle new enemies/bosses using the same clunky and outdated Dark Souls combat system FromSoftware keeps reusing. Every boss fight from the first to the last is exactly the same - roll, roll, roll, R1, roll, roll, roll, R1. Can trivialize most fights with ashes and allies, or take them head on and get brutally punished with huge combos. Either way it’s not enjoyable. Game includes functional co-op but make you jump through hoops to use it.Points for actually including a decent checkpoint system this time, and imaginative boss design (even if they get recycled).

I never had interest in a souls game before having barely tried Dark Souls and having no fun, but one Steam sale and reading Berserk got me interested in Elden Ring. I was hooked. The game is incredibly addicting. The combat is satisfying to master and the challenge isn't as overwhelming as I had feared. The lore is fascinating although difficult to follow at times but that's part of the fun in piecing it together. I'm generally not a fan of open world games that provide little insight on where to go but The Lands Between is a terrifying place I wanted to run around and get lost in. At one point I never thought I'd play Elden Ring but I'm so glad I did. Better late than never.Updated 1 Month Ago
