Downfall: A Horror Adventure Game: https://howlongtobeat.com/game/2733

This is the Russian release of Downfall (2009): https://howlongtobeat.com/game/18710, Akella is not the developer but just the Russian publisher.

https://howlongtobeat.com/game/66681 Honoo no Doukyuuji: Dodge Danpei (1992)

From what I can tell these are the group of games based on the same manga, but with one character transliterated differently (perhaps due to mistake). They are different games though (at least the PC Engine/Mega Drive/Game Gear versions are) according to MobyGames, but the second game here has multiple platforms including those anyway, so it already represents multiple games.

More straightforwardly:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/41897 Daikaijuu Monogatari 2
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/85035 Super Shell Monsters Story II

The latter is the localized title of the former, and has the former name as an alias.

Also requesting a separation: Mo Jie Qi Bing for GBA (prev game ID before it was merged: 94369) is _not_ the same as Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, though maybe the latter is called that in Chinese as well, but there is also an unlicensed game with the same name (which is also called Lord of the Rings: Return of the King for the English version). Both are unique games (for that matter, the official GBA game that is called Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is also different than the console/PC game, being an isometric action RPG and not a 3D action-adventure game, but I'm not sure if the handheld versions of games are usually separated though I think they should be when they're different personally).

Some platforms with distinct games for them that aren't in there, some of which I've added here and had to leave the platform blank and others that I haven't gotten around to adding yet but they're on my spreadsheet:
- Commodore CDTV (though I guess it's not _that_ incorrect to use Amiga for these)
- Gamate
- GameKing
- Game.com (not really correct to say it's a "Tiger Handheld")
- Pokémon Mini
- Super Cassette Vision
- Tandy VIS (dubious - this is a multimedia console that runs a modified version of Windows 3.1 and I think all the games are also on that)
- V.Smile
- Watara Supervision

I presume if you have a standalone .swf file that would still count as Browser, even if you run it with Ruffle or whatever instead of a web browser, and likewise a standalone Pico-8 game would be PC/Linux/etc? Otherwise, Flash and Pico-8 could be platforms, but I think that might be pushing it.

Maybe "Other" could be a platform? But I could imagine the downside if that gets overused by people who just don't feel like putting in the platform.

Fish Fillets 2: 2 entries, one with "The" and one without. Same Steam AppID.
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/3575 - Fish Fillets 2
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/63322 - The Fish Fillets 2
---
Hocus: Two entries, same Steam AppID, etc:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/33105 - Hocus (2015)
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/90338 - hocus.
---

Ys 1 & 2 Complete, Chronicles, Chronicles+: This one might not be considered a duplicate, but there's lots of different re-releases going on here. Raises some questions about how much a game needs to change for it to be a different game. So, I'm going to delve into MobyGames to see what _that_ considers a separate game, and try to keep track of everything (also I personally hate Roman numerals, sorry), and try and list a bit of what's changed (so staff can decide if it's enough to make it different):

https://howlongtobeat.com/game/11458 - The OG. It does list PC as the platform, but I'm not aware of a DOS port and the only Windows version is the Project EGG version, which I believe is an emulated version of the MSX and PC-98 versions so maybe it's a "virtual console" platform which shouldn't be in there according to the text that shows up when you edit a game?
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/11471 - Ys: Book 1 & 2: PC Engine CD/TurboGrafx-CD version, which was on Wii's Virtual Console. Some descriptions of Ys 1 & 2 Chronicles call it a remake of this. I don't think it was on PC? But editing the game details to remove that as a platform requires knowing which games are intended to be which.
Ys Eternal: 1998 remake of Ys I, Japan only, not on HLTB, so I guess nobody plays this specific version, oh well.
Ys 2 Eternal: 2000 remake of Ys II, Japan only, also not on HLTB. Mostly the same engine as Ys Eternal but a bit upgraded.
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/16486 - Complete. Technically this is the 2001 game which is Japan-only, which is a compilation of Ys Eternal and Ys 2 Eternal, with the former slightly updated to have graphics on par with Ys 2 Eternal. However, the Steam AppID here is for Chronicles+, and "Ys I and II Chronicles" is listed as an alias.
Ys 1 Complete and Ys 2 Complete are listed as separate games on HLTB, in the same way that individual episodes would be listed for an episodic game, so that makes sense.
Ys 1 & 2 Chronicles: PSP release from 2009, localized in 2011. Upgraded version of Complete with a new soundtrack (optionally, the PC-88 and Complete soundtracks are chooseable), and new cutscenes and other minor things. As above, it's on here as an alias of Complete. Re-released on Android and iPhone later (with the Chronicles but not Plus in the title).
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/11460 - Chronicles+ (or Chronicles Plus if you prefer), PC version of Chronicles (which MobyGames lists as the same game) from 2009, which was then localized and put on Steam in 2013. If you buy it on Steam, Ys 1 and Ys 2 are listed separately in your library and have different AppIDs (Ys 1's AppID is used for the store page for the compilation), so I think it's fair to call them separate games. But on HLTB this doesn't have either AppID, and I'd add it except something needs to be merged into something else. I'm just not sure what.

Sorry for the infodump. There's also Legacy of Ys: Books 1 & 2 for the DS, which is a separate game on HLTB and MobyGames, but probably not relevant here unless we decide all the remakes/compilations of Ys 1 & 2 are the same. But overall right now it's just a bit of a mess. If Chronicles is the same game as Complete, I don't think Chronicles+ should be a different game.

These two games are actually the same - Monster Farm Jump is the Japanese title of Monster Rancher Hop-a-Bout:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/142952 - Monster Farm Jump
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/79049 - Monster Rancher Hop-a-Bout
Unless you would consider the arcade and PS1 versions to be different games, but I wouldn't think so.

Those of you under 18, please ignore the rest of this post. Carry on with your day as though you did not see it.

Dark Elf and Dark Elf Historia are effectively the same game, the latter is an updated release with a different publisher (nobody likes SakuraGame, and the former got delisted anyway).
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/47936 - Dark Elf
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/148904 - Dark Elf Historia
It doesn't look like there'd be any differences in how long the games take to beat, from what I can tell Historia is just a better translation and new UI, so probably counts as the same game.

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout has two entries:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/84550
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/84367

Edit: Another one, for the SNES game Legend:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/5222 Legend (SNES)
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/37110 Legend (1994) - this Steam AppID (and combination of developer + publisher) indicates that it is the Steam re-release, but it is the same game, just shipped as a ROM + emulator

Edit again: Judge Dredd 95 similarly has two:
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/4879 Judge Dredd (1995)
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/85897 Judge Dredd 95 (with Steam AppID)
Though according to MobyGames, while the Mega Drive and SNES versions are the same game, the Game Boy one is a different game so maybe should have a different page.

https://howlongtobeat.com/game/117781 simply titled "Hard Work"
https://howlongtobeat.com/game/61822 titled "Hard Work (2018, Matchasoft)", presumably to disambiguate it with some other game called Hard Work

These two games are the same.

Would it make sense to just have a "platform otherwise not listed" option? Then I don't have to request a new platform be added for Pokémon Mini, or GameKing, or whatever other silly obscure platform I end up playing a game on which then gets buried in the depths of this thread and I end up just leaving the platform blank, which doesn't feel quite right.

These appear to be the exact same game (Hot Wheels: World Race), possibly the GBA version should count as a separate game as well (speedrun.com does so) but I haven't been able to find much info on it.

The Game Boy game is only ever called "Xtreme Sports", which is the latter title, but the former game is what has the Game Boy Color platform assigned to it (as well as the Switch re-release). "Sega Extreme Sports" is the Dreamcast game.

Replying to Cock
I might have been tired at the time and doing something else wrong, but I recall it wouldn't let me. Might be a new thing.

I just feel bad for the side administrator(s) because it's more work I'm requesting they do for something that only a niche amount of users (basically just you and I) are going to benefit from, but then I also just feel bad for a lot of things, so if it's fine then it's fine.

Given that I apparently need to specify a platform of some kind to submit playthroughs now, I guess I need to request GameKing as a platform… and Pokemon Mini too, which I guess I neglected to request earlier.

Right now I've submitted things as "Emulated" but I don't like using that at all. That's more the method I used to play the game, not the platform, personally.

Would I really be requesting a new platform for every single obscure game system I come across and feel like playing, or could there be an option for a "Custom" platform, or would that result too much in lazy people typing in inconsistently formatted free text instead of looking for the right option in a dropdown box?

The "Premium Edition" of Batman: Arkham Knight is listed separately:

https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=41465
https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=18005

Is this how it should work? It's just Arkham Knight with all the DLC.

Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus is a game for both PC and GBA, PC is listed here but the GBA version is a different game entirely (side scrolling platform game developed by WayForward). The trick is, there's already a time submitted for this, and it's the GBA version, so it won't show up since the game on that page is just the PC version…

All 5 platforms (arcade, PC Engine, Genesis, Game Boy, NES) are a different game, however these entries would be the same set of games, as "The Video Game" is the subtitle, e.g. Batman for Game Boy is the same game as Batman: The Video Game for Game Boy. Hopefully that one makes sense and can be figured out, I'm not sure how one would disambiguate by year as normal as only the NES game is from 1989 and the others are from 1990, and all are developed by Sunsoft.

Lilo & Stitch: Trouble in Paradise is the same game as Lilo & Stitch (PS1):

https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=2616

https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=13690

The name "Lilo & Stitch" without the subtitle is only used for the USA PS1 release.

Also in terms of separation, the GBA game called Lilo & Stitch is a different game that just happens to have the same license by Digital Eclipse.

Edit: Also both of these are the same game (Might and Magic I):
