Your idea of playing too many 10/10 games and not being able to reach that high again is how I dictate what order I play my games in. I don't understand why people will get into something by immediately jumping to the best version of that thing and then being disappointed that nothing else compares. Like buying your first VR headset and starting with Half-Life Alyx. Of course other VR games will pale in comparison! That's why I generally play my games from lowest rated to highest so the bar is slowly moving up. It may sound counterintuitive, but I feel like sometimes it's important to space the great games apart with some mediocre ones to truly appreciate them.

Totally agree with this. One of my co-workers brought something like this up where they told me they regularly drink one type of coffee even though they think a different one is better, the idea being that the coffee they like the most doesn't just become routine. It kind of confused me at first, but I realized I kind of do that with games.

You get a better appreciation for the highs when you know what the lower levels of quality are like. Other then ratings, I also try to make sure I mix up genres and especially after a longer game, I like to play some shorter games in between.

HINT 2: Strand Type Game

For User Stats / Year in Review, "Review Breakdown" when filtering by year always corresponds to the "Completions" Filter Type for all 3 filter types. It's the only section that doesn't seem to change based on the Fllter Type. The "Highest Rated" section which is also based on personal review scores does correctly change based on Filter Type though.

It's rather strange how this site pretty much made it's name off of recording how long it takes to beat games when in reality, I wouldn't really consider it to be 100% accurate more like 40-50% accurate. I remember on the Burnout Revenge page that someone recorded a time where he got to rank 10 in about 8 hours but I got to rank 8 in about 10 hours, and I was on emulator when playing the game so I had access to save states every time I screwed up and he didn't have that, either he's REALLY good at the game to the point where he never crashed once and always got first place and did everything in his first attempt or something is up.

But that's kind of the thing with HLTB times, it might or might not include getting stuck, dying a lot or if it's the timer in game or is it rough estimation. I tend to include multiple factors to determine how long a game is, of course I factor HLTB(I also factor in the "Time to Beat" when when ranking how long it takes to beat my game selection for the month) but I also factor longplays and how long it takes to beat indivdiual levels. I make sure if the walkthroughs in question aren't Let's Plays or someone streaming and they aren't 100%ing the game. Whole thing is complicated as all hell but I like to believe multiple things should be factored in when I try to beat a list of games every month.

I know it's not about Dragon Age but it's like this with so many games, however there are some HLTB times where the site is pretty much spot on with.

I usually just time my total play time including deaths and retries, but even some games with in game time tracking might track time in the way you might expect an that can change from a game to game basis.

I find arcade style games hard to give a time for because the games themselves can be like 30min to 1hr, but they usually take lots of practice and tries before you can get to the end. I personally time the totality of my game time including failures because I feel it better reflects the time I actually spent on the game.
